Romans History

Founded in October 2006 by Explorer7777, the Romans of Club Penguin have stood as one of the oldest and most historically rich armies in Club Penguin warfare. From its early days fighting the Army of Club Penguin to a long line of revivals led by figures like Djgtjvgyhxgy, the army has survived both as rogue clans and organized forces across various platforms. With a detailed internal hierarchy, a unique foreign policy rooted in imperialism, and a defined ownership structure, Romans continues to build on its empire through yet another return to the community.

After its founding, the Romans faced early challenges, including losing their first war against the ACP and the resignation of Explorer7777. The army survived as rogue clans before Dj reunited these groups in 2007, creating a strong, organized force that lasted until Club Penguin’s shutdown in 2017. The army continued on private servers like Club Penguin Rewritten with leadership from Dj, Twitchy543, and Antonio960, but ongoing instability led to a shutdown in October 2020, setting the stage for the latest revival.

THE Revival

After a period of inactivity, the Romans made a powerful return to the Club Penguin Army scene on June 8, 2025. Led by Djgtjvgyhxgy, Ulysses Nardo, Smurf, and Games, the revival reflects a renewed commitment to restoring the army’s legacy. The leadership team held an event to commemorate their revival, drawing a strong turnout from both longtime members and new recruits eager to be part of the Romans comeback.

Following the event, Romans continued to build momentum by focusing on recruitment and community engagement, aiming to reestablish themselves as a formidable presence in Club Penguin Armies. The leadership emphasized teamwork, discipline, and loyalty—core values that have defined Romans throughout their history. With clear goals and an experienced team at the helm, the army’s future looks promising.

To strengthen their position in the community, Romans formed alliances with notable armies such as the Fire Vikings, Valiant Azure Knights, Templars, and Void Troops. These partnerships not only expanded the army’s network but also created opportunities for joint training and coordinated events, reinforcing their standing and influence in the competitive Club Penguin Army landscape.

Club Penguin Armies conducted an exclusive interview with Dj, Nardo & Games, to learn more about this topic.

What sparked the idea to revive the Romans?

Dj: The desire to bring back the Romans has long since existed. My fellow leaders have been working on the foundation for our revival for years now, but until recently haven’t been able to pull the trigger on it due to schedule constraints.

Games: The idea of reviving the Romans was sparked by our good memories of having fun with Club Penguin Armies, notably while leading the Romans in the past. A revival has been in the works for some time, and we felt that it was best that we begin now.

Nardo: The idea to bring back the Romans came from seeing how little the CPA landscape has changed over the years. Armies have been stuck using the same tactics and strategies without much innovation. Romans want to bring something new to the table – more creativity, more experimentation, and more excitement. We’re here to challenge how things are done and shake up the meta.

What goals do you have for the army?

Dj: Our main goals are to bring back some of the old ways that newer members of the CPA community were never able to experience, foster an inclusive, relaxed environment for our people, restore the Romans to it’s former glory and, above all, to have fun.

Games: Our goal for this generation is to build a lasting community that endures and thrives.

Nardo: Our goal with Romans is to build something that lasts. We want to see it grow into a major army, one that people recognize and respect in the CPA scene. But more than that, we want Romans to be the army that inspires change. We’re here to bring much-needed creativity back into the game, and if that leads other armies to reconsider their strategies, then we’re doing our job right.

Why did you form alliances so soon after reviving?

Dj: We wish to be an active participant in the community and foster good relations with everybody else involved in CPA. With that in mind, we made restoring historical alliances and making new ones a priority; Besides, it’s better to have friends than to stand on your own.

Games: It is important for an army to be well connected, as it gives us breathing room to grow and support other armies with similar interests.

Nardo: Because we understand how important strong connections are in this community. When you have allies who trust you, there’s room to test ideas together, exchange strategies, and push the limits of what armies can do.

How will Romans stand out in today’s army scene?

Dj: Our army is distinct in that we’re attempting to craft a community where having fun, as well as respect for people’s boundaries and schedules are top priorities. Culture wise, we’re establishing an inclusive environment similar to our friends over at the ACP and RPF, while emphasizing a healthy separation between CPA and real life. We don’t hound our members about attendance or recruiting, and we try to limit how much we ping our people as much as possible. When it comes to events, we’re uniquely committed to providing our members and the wider community with historically based experiences, such as our Snow Wars events, where we log onto CPJ and other servers to kick off snowball fights in a similar vein to CPA’s genesis, the Color Wars; Additionally, we’re bringing entirely new and innovative events to offer. For example, our Dragon Slayer events, designed by our Legate & S/M legend Ulysses Nardo, features a fight against a dragon using snowballs and emote/word tactics, complete with an integrated HP system. We also are partaking in the modern CPA meta, naturally, but that takes a backseat to our style of events.

Games: The Romans will stand out in today’s army scene by experimenting with reenvisioned methods of warfare, which extend to many unique events we have planned. What also makes us stand out is our attitude towards CPA. To us, this is just a game and we’re here to have fun.

Nardo: By pushing the boundaries of what a Club Penguin army can be. We plan to introduce gameplay mechanics and storylines into our events and battles to make them more exciting and meaningful. By combining these aspects, we aim to evolve CPA into something closer to an RPG, where players engage not only through competition but by becoming part of a larger, unfolding adventure.

The Romans have made a confident return, backed by a leadership team with years of experience and history in the community. Their swift alliance-building and organized revival efforts show a clear intent to compete in the modern army landscape. While their legacy gives them name recognition, their success will depend on maintaining momentum and consistency. With early support from notable allies, they are positioned to make an impact if they stay active and strategic. Will this generation of Romans rise to power, or fade into the shadows of the past?
