Army Index: June 2026

Welcome to the first version of Army Index. It is similar to the Top Ten, but here armies gain points based on how “army-like” they behave each month, based on numerous metrics.

Words From Jojoteri

The idea for a ranking like this first came around during the Mapping the Map 2025 Summit. In the idea that was presented there, there would be a Top Ten specifically tied to the map and the armies’ map activity. It did not gain much support, so it was never implemented. A few years ago, in 2023, there was another attempt by Scorp to create a ranking using army wars. He made two editions, in the first one including from January 2023 till the middle of April of the same year, while in the second one he added the rest of April. He collected data regarding the number of battles per army and their average maxes in battles per timezone, practice battles, wars, and tourneys. Apart from that, he also collected win/loss/tie data to figure out each army’s win rate.

How Does It Work?

Up to a point, the Army Index is similar. It is a monthly ranking, unlike Scorp’s one, which was irregular, and gives more emphasis on the map, the activity of which is lacking these days. First of all, it measures the land owned per army at the end of the month. Then, the successful freeland invasions of each army and the number of battles it participated in. The battles are split into many categories. We have the Same Classification category and the Multi-Classification.

In the Same Classification, there are Major vs. Major, Small Medium vs. Small Medium battles, as well as Small Medium vs. Major. In the Multi-Classification, there are the Major vs. SM battles (so Major armies get fewer points for battling an SM than the SM gets from the same battle). Tournament battles count for the Same Classification category regardless of who is involved. Battles are split between map battles, off-map war battles & raids, tournament battles, and practice battles.

The win rate % is also counted separately in S-C and in M-C, and combined. The number of no-show battles is also counted. The last thing considered, which is probably the most unexpected, is the Top Ten of the Month rank of each army.

The Secret Formula

I have also decided to make the formula known to the general community, even though it may be a bit complex for some. The Rankings board consists of 4 metrics. The Map Points, the Army Points, the Winrate, and the Army Index.

The Map Points are given as follows: Land owned at the end of the month + 0.5 * (number of) freeland invasions + 2 * S-C map battles + 1 * M-C battles.

The Army activity is based on: 4 * S-C map battles + 1 * D-C practice battles + 2 * raids and off map battles + * tournament battles + 2 * M-C map battles + 0.5 * M-C practice battles + 1 * M-C off-map battles and raids.

The win rate consists of the overall win rate in percentage % in the combination of the S-C and M-C battles.

Now, the most complicated one, the Army Index. Let’s consider
4 * S-C map battles + 1 * D-C practice battles + 2 * raids and off map battles + * tournament battles = A
2 * M-C map battles + 0.5 * M-C practice battles + 1 * M-C off map battles and raids = B
the Army Index is given by A * (S-C winrate + 20)/100 + B * (M-C winrate – 50)/100 – no shows + (army rank in the TTOTM – 20)

No Q Only A

In this part, I will attempt to answer some of your questions before you ask them.

  • The battles and the winners are taken from the Club Penguin Army Judges server and the judges’ verdicts.
  • For raids only, known raids are also added, but because they are not documented anywhere, like battles are on CPAJ, there may be mistakes, so we request that you inform us if there is a raid missing. Raids are also not included in the win rate as there is no official verdict. Failed raids, for example, if an army logs on to raid but the other army logs off right away, without any exchange of tactics, don’t count.
  • Ties are also not included in the win rate. Only wins and losses.
  • The formula may be altered in the future if it appears to be problematic in some way.
  • The “army rank in the TTOTM – 20” is added to require more army effort from the higher-ranked, stronger armies. This is also the reason why some armies have negative points in this edition. Armies that are ranked outside of the Top 20 in the TTOTM will not have this term at all.
  • If an army becomes Major during a month or vice versa, two things will apply. In singular battles, it will be considered in the classification it is at the time. In battles that are part of a war, it will be considered as the classification it was when the war started. If the war continues in the next month, it will be considered with the new classification in the new month.
  • If you notice some empty cells in the Rankings, specifically in the win rate, it is because those armies did not have any battles during the month; thus, there is no win rate. At the same time, the sum of the win rates makes no sense practically, so it is not included.
  • Because of its nature, the Army Index can have many ups and downs in its standings.

Without further ado, I present to you the first Army Index. The edition of June 2026.

What do you think of the armies’ activity during June and how it continues in July so far? Do you have any questions about how the Army Index works?
