Since the end of the last Legends Inductions cycle, the Committee Heads have been hard at work on making changes to satisfy the community. Above all else, the next time of meeting of the Legends Committee is imminent.

I. Vacancies in Committee Head Positions
The most pressing need coming off the conclusion of the last cycle was filling the seat left by former S/M Legend Manager Orange, who stepped down in the middle of 2025. After some discernment, his successor was decided to be Mare, an S/M Legend who was inducted in 2021 for her efforts as the leader of Special Weapons & Tactics. Since that time, Mare has made a name for herself in organizational endeavors, most notably serving as an administrator of Club Penguin Armies, for which she was inducted as Memorable Member by the organization earlier this year. Mare expressed a strong desire to reshape the vision for the S/M Army Legend title, which aligns with the community’s priorities in the feedback forms. Thus, she joined Iceyfeet1234 and DMT at the helm soon after the 2025 inductions concluded.
Speaking of Iceyfeet, he expressed to the other Committee Heads at the beginning of the summer that he would no longer be able to fully commit to the responsibilities of being apart of the team. He transitioned to an advisory capacity as Mare and DMT began their work based on the feedback from the community and the committee, which will be detailed below. This of course means that the remaining Committee Heads will look to add another member to their cabinet in short order.
II. Legends Town Halls
Bearing that in mind, the topic that dominated the conversation at the annual Legends Town Hall in March was the S/M Legend title. Much like the community, committee members expressed frustration from multiple angles. Why can S/M Army Legends on the committee only vote on S/M nominees, while Army Legends can vote on all nominees? This makes earning the S/M Legend title more difficult, mathematically. This becomes even more frustrating when considering a view held by some community members: that the S/M Army Legend title is inferior to the Army Legend title. In response to these growing concerns regarding the title, the committee decided that the best route moving forward would be to rebrand the S/M Legend title, which will be clarified later in this post. As always, we remind viewers that votes during the Town Halls are non-binding and exist to give the Committee Heads an idea of how the larger committee feels.
The committee spent a significant amount of time discussing this issue and how to address it. The conversation also turned to what the years on the Legends page actually represent. Some argued that the years simply mark when a Legend was inducted, while others believed they represent a Legend’s “best year” in armies. At the conclusion of this discussion, the committee voted and opted for placing legends under the year in which they were initially inducted (i.e. all 2025 legends from this year would remain in 2025).
As these discussions were taking place during the meeting, another important discussion topic was raised by our committee. In a previous town hall, legends voted in favor of created a new independent Legends Council website. While this vote was initiated to begin the process of creating the website, we wanted to distinguish what privileges legends should have regarding publishing posts. Ultimately, the committee settled on granting all legends the permission to submit posts that would be reviewed by heads prior to being published.
Given the nature of what was imposed upon the Legends Committee by its members, the Committee Heads decided to hold a second town hall at the beginning of August to reveal the plan that they came up with for the future of the S/M Army Legend title. As it would turn out, the proposal was for an absorption of the title into that of the Major Army Legend title, with all inducted individuals being known simply as Army Legends. The entire proposal in its original form can be viewed in this Google Doc. The proposal was met with positive feedback by those in attendance. Thus, the Legends Committee went forward with beginning the process of another long requested topic, a historical-based summer induction.
III. Legends Committee Summer Session
With the introduction of a second induction process, the Committee Heads found it important to establish a set of committee conditions to ensure that inductions that take place adhere to a list of standards. This creates a level of uniformity that the Legends Committee has been missing up to this point. The committee conditions in their current state can be viewed in this Google Doc. Key language that comes up in the document are the new types of nominees. Instead of restricting induction processes to be solely historical [retired individuals] or contemporary [active individuals], historical nominees and contemporary nominees were created. This allows the Legends Committee to make different rules for the two different types of nominees; primarily that of which historical nominees can only be nominated once in a calendar year. For contemporary nominees, this rule does not apply. They can be nominated in both yearly inductions, as to encourage activity.
The different types of nominees had an instant effect on how the Committee Heads approached the nomination process. Instead of making a list by themselves- which typically was based off consultation of army leaders and HCOM members- members of the Legends Committee themselves had the opportunity to suggest any individuals they wished to see nominated for Army Legend. This necessitated the institution of a preliminary discussion period for the committee to finalize a nominee list. The way this worked is each suggested individual was evaluated for if they were worth discussing in further detail at the typical induction discussions. The Committee Heads took a ‘temperature check’ of each candidate by utilizing non-binding ‘yay’ or ‘nay’ Discord reactions and analyzing the conversations held for them.
In the future, we hope to open the nominee suggestion process to the community itself. The Committee Heads felt it was best to first demonstrate the process beforehand, and then involve the community once we discern what worked and what didn’t with an open-nominee process.
As the process went on, it became apparent that there were quite a few members of the Legends Committee that were not present for the August town hall. There were also unforeseen ramifications upon our typical induction process that came from the combination of Major Army Legends and S/M Army Legends into a unified title. This resulted in a lot of anxieties being expressed by members of the committee, which prompted the Committee Heads to clarify concerns and reevaluate some aspects of the aforementioned proposal/committee conditions. Votes were once again held to see how the committee felt about the process now that they were experiencing it and changes were made accordingly. An important thing to note that took place after the release of the Mid-Committee Update. While we will continue to adhere to the rule that both summer and winter inductions can contain either type of nominee, a large portion of the committee pushed for this year’s summer induction to include only historical nominees. Many members felt that the stories of current contemporaries were unfinished and discussion on them would be better suited in December. Concern was also expressed about the potential friction of having a predominantly historical nominee list with only a couple contemporaries for both the Legends Committee and the wider community. Thusly, these wishes were granted by the Committee Heads. Contemporary nominees can expect to see their names on the nominee list in the winter!
IV. Conclusion
It is safe to say that a lot has happened with the Legends Committee since we last convened on the CPA website back in January of 2026. We hope that the work that was shown throughout this post reveals our passion for the title and making it relevant in the community once again. Discussions- both about the title itself and the potential nominees- have been spirited and lively. While it was touch and go whether this summer session would go forth, we are pleased to announce that the nominee list and community vote form will go live on Friday, September 4th, 2026! We are also excited to confirm that biographies will be available for each and every nominee. The committee felt it was paramount to give the community background on these nominees, as a good number of them have not been active in the community for some time.
With the news of the upcoming Army Legends website, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Club Penguin Armies administration for allowing us to utilize their platform. This is the fifth year of inductions taking place on this website, which has been vital to keeping us connected with the community. It is our goal to maintain our working relationship with the organization as we transition to new pastures that will allow us to further interact with the community, ensuring that the title of Army Legend is being shaped by their voices.
