LEGENDS CUP V’S SECOND ROUND CONCLUDES – AUGUST 2, 2014
Announcement of Tournament
In July 2014, Club Penguin Army Central announced the fifth edition of the Legends Cup tournament. Next, the organization invited twenty-four active armies. Of these armies, the top eight armies advanced into the next round. The top eight seeds included Dark Warriors, Golden Troops, Light Troops, Army of Club Penguin, Nachos, Golds, Rebel Penguin Federation, and Ice Warriors. Given the seeds, all three previous champions made it to the second round of the tournament. Additionally, the tournament also featured a RPF rebellion, RPF (2), that earned the eleventh seed. Moreover, the Pretzels of Club Penguin took Club Penguin Police Department‘s spot after the latter closed down. Subsequently, the tournament had a Blue and Red bracket that each included sixteen armies. Finally, the champion of the tournament acquired the winner’s trophy and five thousand xats for their win. Overall, the tournament began with a bye round for the highest-ranked armies.

Two weeks later, the tournament began with a battle between RPF (2) and Guardian Penguins. With close sizes, the former barely came out on top with thirteen penguins online. Comparatively, Purple Republic easily defeated Redemption Force with a slight advantage. After PR’s victory, Soda Pop Army‘s merger into the Reds resulted in a no-show against Doritos of Club Penguin. With DCP’s win, the Red bracket concludes its first couple of battles. Therefore, the Blue Bracket commenced with SWAT’s automatic qualification to the next round against DJ Army. Afterwards, Chaos dominated their battle against Striking Raiders. Likewise, Underground Mafias Army defeated Air Force handily for a spot in the second round. Lastly, Metal Warriors achieved their first victory against Water Troops. In short, the qualifiers consisted of a variety of outcomes.

Second Round Battles
Soon after, RF took RPF (2)’s place in the tournament after the rebellion officially ended. On August 2, GT eliminated them for good with a superior performance. Similarly, Golds forfeited to Night Warriors on the same day. Despite their recent revival, the latter still maxed 20 penguins while Golds only had four penguins online. Following NW’s win, ACP barely defeated Purple Republic due to close sizes. On the other hand, IW eliminated DCP due to a lower number of lockouts. In the Blue bracket, DW took out SWAT with relatively close sizes. Similarly, Nachos achieved their first victory over Chaos. In the pentultimate battle, LT unanimously won their battle against UMA. After their win, RPF claimed a quarter-finals spot thanks to a MW no-show. Ultimately, the round concluded with multiple armies’ advancement to the next round.

Quarter-Finals & Semi-Finals Battles
Summary of Battle Winners
In the first quarter-finals battle, NW upset GT and handed them their first loss in the tournament. Next, IW eliminated ACP with about 50 to 60 penguins online. Following IW’s defeat of ACP, Nachos continued their run in LC through their takedown of DW. In the final quarter-finals battle, LT handled RPF as the highest ranked seed still in the competition. Moving on, the semi-finals kicked off with a raid from Purple Republic during the IW versus NW battle. Regardless, IW claimed a spot in the finals despite a drop in sizes from the previous round. Despite LT’s success beforehand, Nachos also claimed a finals spot after an upset of the former. After these battles, the stage was set for a Nachos-IW finals where both armies attempted to re-claim the LC title.

In the past, Nachos and IW both achieved LC victories as they each acquired at least one tournament title. During the previous tournament, Nachos lost in the finals after they obtained a spot due to their win in the redemption playoffs. At the same time, IW lost to DW after a low max of 12 penguins in the quarter-finals during a three-way battle. Their loss surprised the community given their back-to-back wins in the 2011 and 2012 editions. Therefore, the 2014 finals was a opportunity for a rematch of the first version of the tournament and another title for either army.

As the finals began, both armies had over 25 penguins online and tied in the first room due to close tactics and sizes. Subsequently, Nachos won the second room with a slight size advantage of about five penguins. Thanks to their size advantage, the army came out on top and was ruled the winner of the room by the judges. In the last regular time room, IW achieved their first room win of the battle. Finally, IW won their third LC title after the judges determined them to be the winner. In short, IW acquired their first LC title since 2012.

Conclusion
Throughout the tournament, both armies demonstrated their strength as former LC champions. Additionally, they achieved a further placement than they had in the previous edition of the tournament. While Nachos did not win, they still avoided a loss as they only made the finals through the redemption playoffs in 2013. Additionally, both armies had strong sizes including IW’s max of 60 penguins against ACP. Finally, the armies’ peirformances further cemented their status as major threats for tournament titles.
