Community Reacts to Around the World Cup III: Grand Finals

Before the army community sets the sun across the Around the World Cup III tournament, there is one thing that remains. We asked fellow members of the army community about their reaction to the results and the tournament overall.

The Around the World Cup III tournament concluded on Sunday, June 7, following the triumph of the Shadow Legionnaires from the small/medium division and the Army of Club Penguin from the major division. Across several battles, certain armies showed up, while some swept wins from all rooms. According to the Administration, “the tournament went as expected for the most part,” citing that the small/medium army community could have shown more involvement.

When asked about how the judging felt during the tournament, FatChicken, an ATWC judge from the Club Penguin Army Judges organization, answered…

How I felt judging the tournament? To be honest, I did not necessarily enjoy most of the battles. I know it is common for there to be a few battles in each tournament where the result isn’t obvious, or the battle isn’t close. However, I felt like during this specific tournament almost every battle I judged was not that tense— and I think every judge would agree. A tournament is not much of a tournament if the armies fighting never really meet their match.. they either absolutely stomp on another army or get absolutely stomped ON. What really sucks about this is it was mostly based on size, not on strategy or battle skill really. It made the actual judging of battles quite straightforward, and any judge knows that the fun part of judging is a battle where either side could win/lose over a single messed up emote.

Regarding the judging experience itself this tournament was better than many others, as CPAJ— personally I’d say thanks to Sweater’s presence on the Head Judge team — has become a bit more engaging and less stale.

Either way, all armies this tournament did their best and I look forward to a hopefully more enjoyable and tense Legends Cup!

FatChicken has reportedly judged many battles throughout the tournament, displaying his commitment towards judging in his institution. In his words, battles seemed more size-based, neglecting “strategy or battle skill.” He emphasized that battles were not close enough to make them interesting to judge with passion. Furthermore, CPAJ provided 23 Judges for the tournament, as well as 7 Judges-in-Training. Hence, the team of thirty made the tournament run smoothly, with cutting-edge cooperation and coordination. Immediately before the battles began, the community saw Moon and Sweater taking up the Head Judge seats at CPAJ.

Club Penguin Armies reached out to members of the army community, in and out of the armies that participated in the Grand Finals, to learn more about their reaction towards the tournament and its outcomes.

What was your reaction to the Grand Finals of the tournament, and to the tournament overall?

Bestpenguin, Aliens: It was good

Elite888, Templars: Tbf the finals was a very anticipated moment where all eyes were fixed on both armies. Acp vs Tcp was a great battle where both armies performed brilliantly and gave it their best. Overall great tourney but  you can’t disagree with me that swat would’ve owned both armies without trying . With that said  W Speed

Kyle: Cool tournament overall. The idea that armies represented countries seemed fun and got people talking. Not surprised ACP won given they’ve been the best army in recent months. Same goes for SL, currently the strongest sm army and got there in the end

Lort533, wii phone: tcp downfall gotta be studied bro, fv also
I mean fv obviously fell off because most of the leadership fell off right before but anyways ggs to winners

Lucifer, Help Force:
FV VS SL:
Ngl, it was fine but SL put up a good fight and they won, so good for them
ACP VS TCP: TCP has been making its comeback recently, so i was surprised about the results lol. BUT ACP FTW!!!!

Peterkart4444, Star Force:
Major finals: It was very predictable. ACP was popping off recently meanwhile TCP was hovering around 30. Unfortunately with the judging guidelines you can’t really do anything with that much of a size disadvantage, but props to TCP for fighting hard throughout the battle (especially you Elsa). Both armies did extremely well \:).

S/M finals: Less predictable, but I still knew that SL had this in the bag, they max quite a bit more than FV. Good job to both armies for their good performances.

Overall: Honestly this tournament has never appealed to me. It just feels like the group stage is mostly just a formality as the S/M armies stand little to no chance against the Major armies. However, I’m not gonna deny the fact that there were some great battles that took place.

peterpleco, SnowWalkers: well honestly at that time i was not really following it good and i got it through torn what hapend

Yano, Romans: To the tournament, I didn’t rlly react cuz it’s like every year. And I wasn’t rlly surprised by the Grand Finals, ngl

In conclusion, some individuals have expressed their indifference to the tournament. Moreover, the interviewees also added that the Grand Finals results were not surprising. In addition, there are opinions claiming that the tournament was “great” or “cool.” What was your reaction towards the outcome of the tournament? Do you think results will become more surprising in future tournaments?
