The Romans of Club Penguin have undergone significant leadership changes, with retirements and a new leader stepping up to revive the army. This post takes a closer look at what exactly has been happening within the army.

Romans of Club Penguin is one of the oldest armies in history, created in 2006 by Explorer7777, and later reorganized as an army under Djgtjvgyhxgy‘s leadership in mid-2007. Romans have participated in many of the largest historical campaigns in Club Penguin history, and were one of the first armies to open a Club Penguin Private Server (CPPS) generation in 2013.
Hard Times for Romans of club penguin
As of late, the army has been moderately inactive in the number of events they host. This is a direct result of multiple staff members retiring from their positions to focus on their own personal lives. In just a couple of weeks, members of Romans began to steadily retire from their positions, whether they were Higher Command (HCOM) or lower staff. This lack of members in Romans, paired with their struggle to host successful events, eventually brought the army to the state it is currently in. This decline has also been reflected in Romans’ recent Top Ten placements, where the army has steadily fallen in the rankings, not being featured in the most recent editions.

NEW ROMANS OF CLUB PENGUIN LEADERSHIP
This generation of the army was most recently led by Znation, Csani, and Nardo. However, the former two decided to retire, leaving Nardo as the sole leader. Nardo continued his leadership efforts to patch up the army by seeking retired staff who were interested in returning. As a result of this search, former HCOM member Slash took on a leadership position in the Romans on June 2.

Slash announces himself joining the leadership
Club Penguin Armies reached out to Slash to question him about his journey and his future plans in the army.
What is your CPA history, and how did you end up in the Romans of Club Penguin?
Well, when I was a kid, I remember playing Club Penguin at school on the computers and sometimes on this old crappy desktop. At the time, I did not know armies were a thing. I was around during the original shutdown of the main server and heard talks about private servers but never really looked into it. Back in December of 2024, I was browsing around on the Minecraft Discord Server, and was approached by a user by the name of Puffkitty and he talked about Club Penguin and I had a rush of old memories flowing back and joined the Water Vikings Discord server, which is a great army in my opinion. It was after I joined when I discovered that armies were a thing, and still at the time I did not know the depth of everything until I entered their staff team. I left Water Vikings around March of 2025 and joined Doritos of Club Penguin as a Staff-In-Training around the time of Legends Cup, but never participated in it. DCP shut down after the tournament, and I stayed pretty distant from CPA until December of 2025 when I joined the Romans. I joined because a friend of mine was in the army. Since then, I have enjoyed being beside everyone else within the army and have had a lot of fun.
What happened that made you retire, then come back a month later?
What made me decide to step down from my position as 3ic honestly had nothing to do with the army, but rather a lot of stress in my personal life. At the time, I had a job that was causing me to constantly work several hours from my home and would swap back and forth between driving the distance each day and staying out there for the week. On top of that, I was inconsistently swapping around to several different job sites that we were finishing up. Due to what I had going on, I could not keep my focus on the army, so I stepped down temporarily until I could clean up my IRL life. A little over a month later, I did get a new job. It is local, I make more money, and I enjoy working with everyone else here. I noticed the army was starting to wither out and I talked to Smurf and Nardo about my return to the Romans with the intention of helping push it back up on its feet and continuing to push it to keep going forward.
Do you have any future plans for the Romans? What do you aim to do as the new leader?
My future plans include looking through the history of the Romans to continue the legacy that some of the past leaders have left behind. Alongside that, I want to do whatever it takes to pick us back up, stand tall, and build a new generation of players to continue the army as have many leaders have done in the past. As the new leader of the Romans, I will continue to keep our morale high, while also pushing this army harder than ever to possibly push up to a major army and even break the Top Ten again. There are many tournaments in the future, and it will take a lot of work and training to be able to win those and I hold a lot of faith in our army to have the chance of doing so.
Do you think with you in the leadership, Romans will prosper again?
I will do my best to make the Romans great again. As one of the oldest armies in CPA, there have been a lot of great times and there have been low times. Nonetheless, I believe that I, alongside the rest of our leaders and staff, have a lot of good plans and ideas to bring forth into the Roman Army. Not too long ago, we won the S/M Army World Cup with an outstanding performance of 17-0-1. This army has potential and I do believe that, with the help of everyone else within the army, we will do great and make a name for ourselves.
Anything to add before we end?
The most we can do in any situation is to do our best and have belief that we will succeed in anything we put our mind to. Do not ever doubt yourself. Do not think you can do it, KNOW you can do it. Ave Roma!
With multiple retirements and declining activity, the Romans of Club Penguin find themselves at a crossroads. However, Slash’s return to leadership brings renewed optimism, as he aims to rebuild the army, preserve its legacy, and eventually return it to major-army status. Whether those ambitions can prosper into a full revival remains to be seen, but the coming months will likely be crucial for the army. What do YOU think? Will Romans be able to get back on their feet, or are their best days behind them?
