The Water Vikings and the Templars have been heated rivals for a long time. In this edition of the Army Rivalries column, we will interpret combat between the two armies from the past and explore each year they have spent in victory and downfall.
The Water Vikings and Templars are undoubtedly among the most well-known rivals. Both armies have interesting histories, and this article covers just that. The two armies have been at war several times since 2021. Most of these wars tend to make the community look noisy and increase activity in both armies and the wider community.
2021
The earliest wars between the two rivals date back to 2021 and 2022. During the spring of 2021, the Vikings waged the Golden Seas War due to “Templars performing crude practices in the army community”. According to the Vikings, Templars had been overusing their unfair advantage against smaller nations. In April, the Ninth Great Holy War was launched against the Templars. The summer of 2021 was intense, for the armies battled multiple times during the season.
In the same year, the Water Vikings accused the Templars of troop stealing and declared war. Once again, during the winter of the same year, the Vikings declared war against the Templars, subsequently after they were relieved from another war against the Silver Empire. The war finished in December with the signing of the Treaty of the Axe and Sword.
2022
On January 19, 2022, the Templars attempted to declare war against the Vikings again, but the war declaration was deemed invalid by the administration and the Head Judges due to the then-ongoing Treaty of the Axe and Sword that was set in December of the previous year. This caused noise in the community, while Templars leader Xing criticized Club Penguin Army Headquarters – the league at the time – “for losing its relevancy”. On the other hand, Viking leader Cabin asserted that “the treaty he wanted in desperation went to waste”.
On November 4 of the same year, the community saw another war that lasted only one day and two battles. The war concluded with a tied result, both in score and the nature of the treaty.
Shortly after the war, the Water Vikings closed its doors temporarily, due to internal conflicts. They still remembered that the war against the Templars was left incomplete, but they had not set a war against the Templars as their top priority. The Vikings returned to the army society about three months later.
2023 & World War IX
After the return of the Water Vikings, their army would meet the Templars again in World War IX. The war was considered the greatest of the summer. The Water Vikings sided with the Blue Sunset Alliance, while the Templars joined forces with the Sapphire Concordat. The war saw the greatest battles of the year, including BSA’s Invasion of Alabama, with a total server load of over 120 penguins.
However, due to the signing of a treaty, there was no victor in World War IX. The war, which was expected to last for weeks, concluded. The Concordat endured defeat in 32 battles and lost control over 18 servers, but it still had over a hundred servers.
2024: the Sluttpadawn War
In April 2024, the two armies partook in the Sluttpådawn War upon a declaration by the Water Vikings. The war took shape because the Vikings wanted to create noise in the army community. According to Vikings leader Cabin, starting a war against the Templars earlier was not their top priority. Over two weeks of battle, the conflict ended, with the final war score being 15-5 in favor of the Knights.
After the Vikings returned from a temporary closure in 2023, the rivalry between the armies seemed to have faded, until the Sluttpådawn War in 2024. The armies have seen wins and losses against one another; another war between them is not questionable. Do you feel that the armies will re-enter war in the future? If so, who do you think would win?
