A league without admins… that would be a sight. Admins are what shape our community; they ensure rules are followed so that no chaos can occur. Today, we explore what would happen if the league had no admins.
Background
Every league in Club Penguin army history has had admins running it, with staff working under them and learning from them to potentially replace them one day. Admins are integral to every league, and leagues are defined by their administration. They make the rules, even if armies and other influential people have a lot of say in the process. However, admins can sometimes harm leagues, whether through corruption or other issues under their watch.
The scenario where admins aren’t part of army leagues is interesting, yet nobody has dealt with it. Possibly the only time an organization of any sort existed was in 2022, under the purview of Club Penguin Army Headquarters and Club Penguin Army Network. This was through United Media, which was less an organization than a media partnership. United Media formed when both organizations came together to create a united AUSIA Arena and later cover March Madness VIII. Technically, however, both leagues had their own administrations, so it wasn’t as anarchic as having no admins at all.
A World Without Admins
The best place, in recent history, would be to go back to the Club Penguin Online Army League. This is because of accusations of a corrupt administration, and why wouldn’t it be called corrupt? The administration included someone who was friends with the owner of Club Penguin Online, either then or in the past. This aligns with the overall environment at the time, as Aaronstone42 noted in his Appeal to Heaven Volume III. In this league, not having administrators would have significantly improved the community’s view of corruption. However, who would’ve run the league? There was already an army board, but given the size of the administration at the time, it likely would’ve taken the board time to decide anything on its own. Additionally, unless every army is selfless, the board would eventually end up with the most influential armies gaining the most support for their proposals.
The author of this post wasn’t around for CPOAL, so a better example would be more recent times, with Club Penguin Armies. CPA is run primarily by the administrators, currently Jojo Teri, Kira, and df44. However, an army board again brings and votes on proposals, alongside a yearly summit. The summit is more influential than some past administrations, with major decisions made there. Additionally, it lets influential CPA “politicians” of sorts speak up and propose necessary changes that may not come from the administration. These influential people are key to what leagues would look like without admins, but we’ll circle back to that later in this post.
Leaving the Decisions to the Community
What if the community, instead of the admins, made the decisions directly? This is hard to define because of the anarchy that would ensue. However, if armies and individuals didn’t change their behavior despite the lack of a league or administration, and judging continued as normal, things could be fairer. You could realistically have a board like United Media handle media and tournament hosting. Also, there would be no punishments except what Club Penguin Army Battleground might carry out, like bans. However, this would quickly go down a rabbit hole, with egos surfacing faster and people who shouldn’t have power trying to centralize it. Those with influence would shape what the “community” looks like. However, it would likely return to a state with no real community, where armies are relatively independent. Army leaders might be friendly and on good terms, but the army community as we know it would end.
Club Penguin Armies asked Cobra, a head judge at the Army Judging Board, for his thoughts on this situation.
Cobra: I don’t think there would be any league/media org would exist if there were nobody to run it. It would be like 2017-2019 again where a substantial amount of time had no official organization for a long period of time. It would just be a de-centralized community that required the army leaders to negotiate and maintain the politics of the time, which has been proven to work although it certainly would make the community much more volatile to disruption, drama, and harm
Overall, this scenario is much harder to theorize because it’s like having no league. For many people currently active in the community, armies without a centralized league are unthinkable. However, it has happened before and could survive, even if the problematic people who caused drama in 2017-2019 aren’t around right now. What do you think would happen to the community if leagues and organizations did not have an admin? Would the community fall into chaos and lead to massive disturbances and fallout?
