In a striking turn of events, the Special Weapons and Tactics finally announces a seemingly final departure from the army community. After 17 years of founding, the army has now come to its first long-standing shutdown in the Club Penguin private server era.

On February 23, Special Weapons and Tactics was deemed shut down following a brief announcement by Domsamillion. This much-expected development comes after many months of frequent war and consistent leadership changes. Moreover, this conclusion arrived after a month of internal discussion and debate on various matters within the army, including a potential reduction of Legoman’s privileges, which later lost favor. Among the people in discussion were prominent SWAT figures, including Godfathers TacoDaily, Zuke, Legoman, and IsaacDaVinci, with Ganger90 showing slight external involvement in the discussion. At the moment, SWAT is claiming to prepare a more detailed website post describing the situation.

What Has Been Going On?
Following the defeat of SWAT’s alliance in World War IX in the summer of 2023, SWAT began to fall under the leadership of Legoman and Sweater, when the army lost its size and held fewer events. Months later, in November 2023, a trio of the army’s high command members was introduced to leadership, namely Fun X Time, Fwapo, and Bull Hour, with Bull Hour leaving soon after, and Zooy joining the crew the next year.

SWAT faced internal turmoil by the end of 2024, and the army was renewed by Legoman following an exodus. During the exodus, the entire SWAT leadership resigned along with other staff members and some troops. Kyle104, Maguro, and Shazam, who replaced the leadership, also gradually split up until SWAT’s Discord server was defaced in February 2025. Holo2, Subzero, and Versa took over SWAT’s helm.

The new trio did not last long either, with the leaders splitting up later in April. WilliamW2010, who had been leading SWAT since March, was now running the army solo. In December, Operation: Phoenix was driven by newly introduced leaders xdemon and AB, and later by Fwapo and Ggogle. The army seemed to show growth until plans faltered by January. Fast-forward to February 21, 2026: SWAT held its final event, a Defense of Mammoth against the Army of Club Penguin. ACP won its invasion, but generously left in the third room to allow SWAT to score their final room win! SWAT finally ceased operations on February 23, 2026. Right before the closure, SWAT also established an alliance with the Cryo Vanguards on the day of the final event.

Legacy
SWAT was founded on July 7, 2009, by small-medium army legend Ganger90. Since the early days, Mammoth has been the historical capital server of the army. Among the renowned leaders were SWAT veteran S Cargo2, who led the army in 2011 and 2012, SWAT legend Zuke, who led from 2013 to 2015. In 2015, the army witnessed a major shutdown following then-leader Badboy‘s departure. In 2016, the army had a short revival where they placed first in Club Penguin Army Central‘s weekly Top Ten for the first time in three years. Before Club Penguin shut down, SWAT had another short revival to complete their OPERATION: SAVE-CP in a final showdown. After multiple generations, SWAT closed its doors with the fall of Club Penguin in March 2017.

Three years later, in March 2020, SWAT revived during a time when many armies made a return. This time, many veterans made a return to the army, including Ganger90, S Cargo2, Zuke, Badboy, and TacoDaily. Following their revival, they acquired sizes of around 50. They acquired an astonishing max of 101, their highest ever, at the Defense of Permafrost against the Underground Mafias Army.

After 2020, the army leadership changed numerous times. Some prominent leaders of this era include Mare, Coolguy, Aubz, Firestar08, Legoman, Fun X Time, Fwapo, Bull Hour, Holo2, Subzero, Versa, and Zooy, among many others. The army’s last tournament win was the Monster Mash in 2022, for which they received their late trophy in 2024.
Club Penguin Armies reached out to SWAT leader WilliamW2010 and SWAT Godfather Domsamillion to learn more about their thoughts on the shutdown. However, Domsamillion refused to answer the interview.

WilliamW2010: SWAT is special to me, I joined at the age of 10 during MM 2021, over the years I have gotten attached, it saddens me to see it go.
As SWAT shuts down, the army community expresses mixed opinions. Some feel that this is overdue, while others want SWAT to remain open and do better. The army finally closes its 17-year chapter, with the stakeholders’ final words showing mixed emotions of pride and despair. Will SWAT make a return in the future?
