Black AlLIANCE BECOMES BLACK LEGION

Background

Firstly, the Black Alliance began in 2011 as a force primarily against the Army of Club Penguin. It came about thanks to the ideas of BP228 and Mach who hailed from different armies. The alliance consisted of the Pirates, Light Troops, Dark Warriors, United Countries of CP, Night Divers, and Shadow Troops. In response to greater animosity, ACP created the White Alliance with Ice Warriors, Doritos of Club Penguin, Tacos, Army Republic, and Nachos.  The formation of this new alliance contributed to the outbreak of two major wars from November 2012 to January 2013. The BA viewed the White Alliance as a major threat and took action.

While the Pirates temporarily shut down before the war, the army’s return led to several declarations of war on ACP by the end of the year. As such, their main motivation was to prevent ACP and its allies from having a monopoly. They believed that the other alliance had too much control over other armies and wanted to eliminate ACP as a threat. The original war between the two alliances ended due to the retirements of some of the leaders involved. With these retirements, a short ceasefire began that lasted until after the Christmas Chaos tournament ended. By the end of January, a new war broke out between the two established alliances. Despite BA’s strength, the White Alliance successfully repelled their attacks throughout January. As Waterkid100 retired, the conflict ceased after BA surrendered the war. By late February, the alliance returned and renewed its efforts against ACP.

Formation of Black Legion

After months of conflict, BA reformed with Special Weapons and Tactics and Hot Sauce Army as new members. Unlike before, the alliance became a more cohesive unit under the name of the Black Legion. As a stronger alliance, the war between ACP and the Black Legion commenced until ACP surrendered due to low sizes. With ACP’s surrender, the Black Wars officially ended after multiple months. In the aftermath, Nachos became the strongest army over ACP after years of the latter’s dominance. Moreover, LT had several dominant periods before it shut down in 2017. Later on, ACP’s alliance successfully defeated BA in June 2013. Finally, the Black Alliance dissolved thanks to the problems caused by multiple wars. Overall, the Black Wars and the formation of the Black Legion signaled an end to ACP’s dominance.

Ninjas Shut Down

Background

In June 2011, Pochoma123 and Pringle64 created Ninjas with a rebrand from the Roman Fire Warriors name. The original RFW acted as a 2nd generation of Fire Warriors and had a part in important conflicts as well. With their rebrand, the army experienced significant success in the Top Ten rankings and tournaments. For instance, the army won the Clash for Control and Champions Cup tournaments in 2011 and 2012, respectively. Additionally, it also made the semi-finals of Club Penguin Army Central‘s Sweet Sixteen tournament in 2012. While they lost to Nachos, they proved themselves to be one of the stronger armies in the community. Finally, the army also achieved better-than-expected sizes during their first Legends Cup tournament. Simultaneously, the army struggled with consistent sizes, a problem exacerbated by Pochoma123’s retirement. Their inconsistency contributed to the army’s state by early 2013. All in all, Ninjas had modest and short-lived success.

Ninjas Shutdown

After months of low sizes, Ninjas finally closed down in February 2013. Consequently, their site became empty after a systematic wipe on February 19. With the obscure shutdown, few people knew about the shutdown until it was formally announced by CPAC. Regardless, Ninjas’ run came to an end despite attempts at revivals. In short, the army became defunct in part due to a decrease in size like many armies before them. Moving on, there was one last noteworthy event that occurred on February 25.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF MARCH MADNESS TOURNAMENT

On February 25, 2013, CPAC announced a new tournament, March Madness, styled after the annual basketball tournament held by the NCAA every year. Unlike the NCAA tournament, the CPAC tournament began with only 16 armies to honor the Sweet Sixteen round. However, not all invited armies participated in the final product. For example, Club Penguin Empire left the tournament and DW returned as a contender. Despite these changes, the tournament proceeded with Nachos, LT, Pirates, HSA, Pretzels, Tacos, Heroes, Metal Warriors, Underground Mafias Army, Water Vikings, DCP, IW, AR, SWAT, DW, and ACP. With the participants determined, the tournament ran from early March to late March. After weeks of fighting, Nachos came out victorious over the Ice Warriors. Finally, Nachos received another trophy after several previous tournament victories such as the first Legends Cup iteration. With the tournament’s end, a new tradition began with March Madness continuing to be held in future years.

Conclusion

Throughout February 2013, the community experienced a great deal of activity that included wars, shutdowns, and new tournaments. For instance, the Black Alliance became a bigger threat to ACP due to the Black Legion’s cohesiveness. Next, the Ninjas’ shutdown ended a promising army’s run and its chances to become a more dominant tournament threat. Finally, the start of the March Madness tournament started what became one of the most prestigious CPA tournaments. These events all marked the date as one of the most eventful of the month. What do YOU think of these events? Do YOU enjoy the March Madness tournament? What are your thoughts on the Ninjas’ shutdown?
