Welcome to This Day in History, a column where important historical events are examined. In this edition, we will discuss the 2015 Christmas Chaos Final.
BACKGROUND
Club Penguin Army Central announced the 5th edition of the Christmas Chaos tournament on November 23, 2015. The tournament began 5 years before in December 2011 as a new annual Christmas tournament. The tournament pool consisted of 16 armies: Water Vikings, Anarchists, Army Republic, Heroes, Doritos of Club Penguin, Gigi Hadid Army, Redemption Force, Nachos, Special Weapons and Tactics, Cumshooters, Ice Warriors, Dark Warriors, Army of Club Penguin, Light Workers, Snow Ninjas, and Rebel Penguin Federation. The organization gave each army a specific seeding based on their past Top Ten placements. In the meantime, CPAC’s administration banished SWAT from the tournament for multilogging. Thus, the Cumshooters advanced to the next round.
2015 CHRISTMAS CHAOS FIRST ROUND
Firstly, the tournament kicked off with a battle between the Water Vikings and the Anarchists. The former automatically advanced due to a no-show from the latter. Next, Army Republic went into their first tournament battle as the favorites thanks to their previous tournament victories. However, the Ghosts moved on as the Heroes did not show up similarly to the previous battle. Moving on, the Gigi Hadid Army defeated the Doritos in one of the biggest upsets of the first round.
Moreover, Nachos defeated Redemption Force handily as the favorites. The army previously won both Champions Cup IV and Club Penguin Army Warfare Media‘s Hunt and Kill tournament. Thanks to these victories, the army became the favorite to win a third championship. As such, the army easily advanced to the next round.
Given SWAT’s elimination, Cumshooters advanced to the next round without a battle. The next battle determined who they faced in the quarter-finals. In a close battle, the Dark Warriors defeated the Ice Warriors. Next, Light Workers defeated ACP thanks to the latter’s low max. Finally, the Rebels swept the Snow Ninjas aside to clinch the last spot in the quarter-finals. These battles concluded the first round.
2015 CHRISTMAS CHAOS QUARTER-FINALS
With eight armies left, the Vikings achieved the first victory of the round over the Ghosts. Subsequently, Nachos defeated the Gigi Hadid Army handily with over 25 penguins. Next, the Ice Warriors eliminated the Cumshooters for a semi-final spot. Lastly, the Rebels secured a semi-final spot with a victory over the Dark Warriors.
2015 Christmas Chaos Semi-Finals
In the first battle of the semi-finals, Nachos defeated the Vikings for another finals appearance. Consequently, the Rebels defeated the Warriors for a chance at another championship. Finally, the final battle arrived after weeks of battles.
2015 Christmas Chaos Finals
BACKGROUND
With the final spots decided, the final battle had the potential to go either way. Both armies experienced consistent placements on the top tens even when they had a drop-off in performance. In the final Top Ten of the year, RPF finished only 2 places above the Nachos. However, Nachos had no first-place placements while RPF had one 1st place placement in July. On the other hand, both armies won an equal amount of important tournaments throughout the year. The Nachos won the Champions Cup while the Rebels achieved victory in the most prestigious tournament of the year in Legends Cup VI. Both armies’ success gave either army a good chance of taking the crown.
FINALS BATTLE
The battle kicked off with a Nacho size advantage and a significant number of lockouts as well. However, neither army particularly stood out more than the other. A similar pattern continued in the next room thanks to the smaller size of the room. Finally, the last room allowed for great performances from both armies. Ultimately, the Rebels came out victorious in a relatively close battle. Consequently, The Rebels achieved their second tournament victory of the year. Despite their loss, the Nachos had an impressive performance that displayed their tactical prowess.
Conclusion
The Christmas Chaos tournament displayed the strength of both RPF and Nachos as tournament armies. Additionally, the event featured interesting upsets that challenged the traditional army hierarchies. For example, Doritos’ loss showed the vulnerability of one of the most successful armies. Additionally, the tournament’s timing allowed armies to shine thanks to the greater availability of troops. Overall, the tournament featured many interesting developments.
