Recently, The White Order Alliance declared war on the Rebel Penguin Federation. In their declaration, they claimed that this started World War X. Should this war really be classified as a “World War”, though?

What has Happened?
On September 16, there were 3 exposé posts released against the Rebel Penguin Federation. They accused mainly a now-former RPF staff member and secondarily a RPF troop of heavy offences that have no place in our community. The people who wrote the posts claimed that the leadership was aware of what was going on, but RPF released a post and an announcement claiming they weren’t told the complete story. Several people weren’t satisfied with how the Rebels handled the situation, who initially fired the first person and demoted the other. Eventually, after the public outrage, RPF banned the main perpetrator.
At the same time, several dissatisfied armies created an army-alliance, naming it The White Order. It is an alliance in the form of an army, which they quickly registered in Club Penguin Armies. As soon as the army joined the league, they transferred land to it and declared war on RPF, naming the conflict “World War X“. You can find more information about everything mentioned so far in the live update CPA post. Several people questioned the alliance’s choice to name the war as that, since several armies aren’t participating so far.

The War Declaration
Definition of a world war
In real life, people define a world war as the following;
A world war is an international conflict that involves most or all of the world’s major powers.
Previous World Wars
In Club Penguin Armies, a world war is defined as a war in which most active armies are participating. People in armies use the term very rarely, only in the largest conflicts. This explains why there have only been 9 World Wars in the history of CPA. In the most recent World War and the only CPA: Battleground era one, WWIX, we saw almost all armies participating in it. From the major armies, 5 out of 6 participated actively in it, on one side or the other. The remaining one supported sides selectively without officially joining the war. When it comes to the Small-Medium armies, there were 6 active. Three of them joined the war actively, with two supporting the sides unofficially and the other remaining neutral.
This means 8 armies were participating in the war, with 3 more giving occasional support, out of the 12 active armies at the time.
The war had a large intensity as well, with 32 battles happening in just a few weeks. Some days even had as many as seven battles spread across all timezones. The intensity is also shown through the Top Tens of the time, when all participating armies’ points were heavily boosted.
The current situation
Currently, in the community, there are several more armies compared to the time WW9 happened. The difference is large, with 20 armies being active currently compared to 12 back then. The number of Major armies hasn’t changed, with 6 armies being in that category currently.
With that being said, currently in the war, on one side, there is only RPF. On the other side, TWO consists of several Small-Medium armies and Void Troops. The participating SM armies are the People’s Imperial Confederation, the Romans, the Scarlet Republic, the Elite Guardians of Club Penguin, the Penguins of Agartha and the Shadow Legionaries. This means that there are 2/6 major and 6/14 SM armies participating in the war. Some armies, like the Water Vikings have already claimed neutrality in the war, announcing that they won’t assist either side.
Due to the low number of Major armies participating in the war, it should not be considered a World War. Less than half of the active armies, 8 out of 20 are participating in the war, which further proves the point that this isn’t a world war. Currently, it is a large-scale war, but definitely not World War worthy.
Similar scale non world war conflict
There have been several occasions on which several armies engaged in a war that wasn’t eventually considered a world war. In December 2023, there was a war between EGCP and United Front Alliance, named as the Holiday Crusade. The alliance consisted of four armies, the Army of Club Penguin, the Templars, PIC and the Coup Crusaders. Eventually, the Penguins of Madagascar also joined the war on UFA’s side. At the time, there were 6 major armies, with 3 of them participating in the war. Additionally, there were 3 SM armies out of the 6 that were open at that time. Despite half of the active Major and SM armies participating in the war, it wasn’t considered as a world war.

Conclusion
Even though the current war has many participants, it should not be considered a World War yet. Most of the armies, especially major ones, are out of it so far. Only time will tell if this war eventually ends up being World War worthy or not, if more armies end up joining it and the intensity rises. For now, it is an interesting war, with the largest part of the community being eager to find out how it will end up and the first non 1 vs 1 war after a long time.
Do you agree with this post? Should the war be labeled as “World War”? What are the requirements to name a war as a “World War”?
