Welcome to This Day in History, a column exploring historical events. In this week’s edition, we will look into events that occurred on July 20 throughout army history.
Past History & Important Wars
By 2013, both Shadow Troops and Ice Warriors had been around for several years. Throughout their existence, the two armies faced each other in the Champions Cup and a battle soon after ST’s November 2012 revival. In the former, IW defeated ST with a greater margin. Besides these battles, ST competed in many wars with armies such as the Army of Club Penguin, Doritos of Club Penguin, Pretzels of Club Penguin, Team Gold, and Nachos. On the other hand, the army battled IW in World War VI as part of the Black Alliance. However, ST suffered from a rebellion and a defacement within the same month. Essentially, the army began to fall apart by the middle of the year.

Simultaneously, IW finished as the runner-up in the first iteration of the March Madness tournament. Moreover, Iceyfeet1234, IW’s creator, returned after a short retirement to his previous leadership position. Throughout the years, he played a significant role as one of the longest-serving leaders in the community. Along with his return, ST’s raid of an IW vs. DCP practice battle escalated tensions between the two armies. In response, IW initiated a raid on ST’s capital on July 20, during which they maxed 31 penguins. Despite the raids, no war resulted from these actions. At the time, ST struggled with low sizes and internal turmoil. Ultimately, ST shut down less than a month later, thanks to these problems.

BURITODAILY JOINS LIGHT TROOPS AS HIGHER COMMAND – JULY 20, 2014
Early Army Career & Notable Conflicts
In 2010, Buritodaily began his army career as the creator of the Squids of Club Penguin. Soon after, the new army fought alongside the Army Republic against ACP on Mammoth. After the two won a battle, 122344a recruited the Squids’ leader to be a member of AR. At the same time, AR’s relationship with ACP worsened in part due to the latter’s massive size advantage. Consequently, AR’s failed invasion of ACP elevated Burr to a leadership position. During his time as leader, the Ghosts participated in numerous wars against armies such as the Ice Vikings and Earth Warriors.

Temporary Shutdown & Revival
After reaching 5th in the Club Penguin Army Central‘s Top Ten, the army shut down briefly. During this time, Buritodaily served as a high-ranking staff member in other armies. These armies consisted of Freeze Troops, Ninjas, Tacos, Light Troops, and ACP. Subsequently, the trio of Burr, 122344a, and Vinny brought AR back to bring it to new heights. Given this motivation, the army had greater conflicts with SWAT, ST, Nachos, Dark Warriors, Rebel Penguin Federation, and Night Warriors.

Removal from Leadership & Leave of Absence
Despite some successes, internal turmoil contributed to Burr’s removal from leadership in October 2013. By the start of 2014, a multilogging scandal rocked the army as Burr and Vinny returned to the leadership. In the meantime, AR experienced a drop in sizes as it struggled to find stable leadership. Next, these problems culminated in the army’s shutdown by the end of April 2014. Due to Burr’s earlier departure, he left the community for several months, following the shutdown.

Burr’s Return to Light Troops
After multiple months of inactivity, Burr returned to Club Penguin Armies as a second-in-command for LT. He had previously been in the army when AR was between generations. While AR no longer operated, LT and the former formed a close alliance before their shutdown. For example, LT helped the Republic in their war against DW. Likewise, AR and LT both became members of the New Regime Alliance, which fought the Nation of Domination alliance in a brief war. Their fellow members included Water Vikings, Golds, and Hot Sauce Army. Despite their partnership, the two armies had a long history of war with one another. Thus, Burr’s decision to join a historical rival caused controversy within the community. Regardless, his re-emergence provided hope to LT troops as he was an influential figure. In short, Burr’s return made waves with his choice of army.

Conclusion
Firstly, IW’s raid on ST demonstrated how disagreements sometimes did not result in total war. The event also showed how the two armies held a deep dislike for one another. In addition, ST’s instability rendered the army incapable of responding to such an attack. Meanwhile, IW re-focused its efforts on conflicts throughout the rest of 2013. Moving on, Buritodaily established himself as a noteworthy character with his leadership in multiple armies. During his time in AR, he played a major role in its success in many conflicts and tournaments. Finally, his work with Vinny created one of the most impressive power duos in army history. Overall, both of these events affected the course of armies and the legacies of those involved.
