Welcome back to Behind The Scenes, the column where we look into the day-to-day life of a community member. In this edition, we will explore the life of Johnathan, who currently serves as a Cartoonist in Club Penguin Armies.

Johnathan joined the army community on May 20th 2022. He saw that Club Penguin Rewritten had shut down but needed an escape. He soon stumbled upon the Help Force after Elialom, a friend of his from the game, told him about it. Johnathan has remained loyal to HF ever since. For Johnathan, there has not been an urge to join another army or to explore what else is out there. They are content within the Help Force as well as their role in Club Penguin Armies.

After joining the Helpers, they went on to witness a new era of the army begin. This era would see Help Force leader, Wynn, resign from their position and current leader, ROOBOO, alongside Desireus, step up. While these changes were big for the army, Johnthan was taking each day as it came, watching his army overcome all its challenges. The army’s momentum only grew as they entered the new year. The Helpers made their way into the March Madness Finals in 2023 and prepared to take on the dominant Rebel Penguin Federation.

Unfortunately, the Helpers failed to win, but they put up a great fight, forcing the Rebels to bring everything they had. From here, Johnathan decided to take up a new experience. He applied for the CPA staff team on April 6th, 2023. He joined wanting to revive his passion for armies because his passion and motivation started to fade. However, he still remained in the Help Force and went on to witness their Ausia Arena tournament win.

Today, Johnathan remains a member of the Help Force as a Commodore (highest member rank). Despite spending almost two years in the army, he is content with just being a member for now. Trying to balance real life and armies can be a job in itself so being in armies just for fun is more practical. As well as this, he is a Cartoonist for CPA, regularly creating comics for everyone to enjoy.

One of the recent comics that he made captured the March Madness feeling that armies get. It is clear that he is a talented designer and makes amazing comics. The comics often get rave reviews with many admiring the work of him and other cartoonists. Within the CPA team, apart from his amazing comics, he is known for his thoughtful messages.

To find out more about Johnathan and who he is behind the scenes, Club Penguin Armies approached him for an interview.

What continues your drive to continue your army career?

I lack purpose and view myself as a nobody irl, this is one of the only places where I can feel seen.

Do you have goals for your CPA career regarding your time in HF and CPA team?

To have fun, not really aiming to be a Head reporter or Legend; just wanna feel like people like having me around. Also getting my own CPA Wiki page would be hella cool; put that on my résumé lol.

What do you do on a typical day, do you study in school or college?

I study a Business and Management course in Uni.

What other hobbies and interests do you have besides CPA?

I like to play games (Tactical shooters, single-player adventures and social MMOs) and draw ‘Club Penguin x [franchise]’ art.

Do you play Club Penguin separately from armies?

Yes, I play CPJ, CPL and NewCP outside of CPA events. Usually just wish penguins a very nice day on there, that’s all.

What advice do you have for someone who’s just stepped into the community and wants to get stuck in?

Be unique and start talking to people in your army in voice chats or text chats. Attending events is optional but really helps with getting people to trust you as a member of their Army. Understand the culture within the Army you’re in too.

While Johnathan does not have goals within CPA or HF, he is passionate about what he does and wants to do it for fun. For Johnathan, Club Penguin armies is just about having fun and not stressing over responsibilities. Outside of that, they seem to be on course to fulfil their studies and go on to be successful. We, at Club Penguin Armies, wish them the best of luck in their future. Should more people sit back and enjoy armies? Will we see Johnathan rise up in the Help Force or CPA?
