One of the most iconic armies to ever exist in this community has to be the Ice Warriors. After 15 years, let’s see how the Warriors are doing and what their plans are for the future.
Let’s go back to the beginning. The year is 2007, the year following the first formation of armies. The mythic legend Iceyfeet1234 saw this and created the Ice Warriors. One of the first armies to ever be created, alongside the Army of Club Penguin, Romans, and Underground Mafias Army. Once Club Penguin shut down, the army thought it was the end. Ice Warriors returned to the community on December 20, 2019 with the help of Andrew24, Ben, and Ghost.
The army has stayed consistent in the community rankings, with a specifically impressive run dominating the top three during the pandemic. However, as of October 2022, leaders Dr Queen and Freedomist retired from the army. Henceforward the army has been hosting fewer events on Club Penguin Army Battleground and shockingly removed themselves from participating in the Top Ten.
Recently, the Army of Club Penguin declared war on the Ice Warriors, quoting from the Clover Commander in Chief Calgocubs:
We have waited for over a year to engage in war and now that Legends Cup has finally concluded we wanted to end our age of isolationism and anti-war ideals for good.
The Warriors, who were already in the process of transferring their nation in the midst of the declaration, decided to forfeit and transfer all their existing land to the Clovers. It’s not their first time sitting out. They also did not participate in the Halloween-themed Monster Mash community battle, and withdrew from Legends Cup XII back in September.
So, why this sudden change? The army certainly wasn’t slowing, and they seemed to be on good terms with the rest of the community. Club Penguin Armies reached out to the current leaders and multiple higher commands, and got a response from Leader IceQueen1020 and Leader in Training, Subster.
IceQueen: To make things crystal clear: Ice Warriors [IW] has not shut down as a Club Penguin army. You don’t need to be in a league or featured in a league’s Top Ten to be an active army. We left the league to do things our way and to build the community we have in IW because frankly [the community] is dying and it’s plain as day across the community that people don’t have time to do armies like we did in 2020 and 2021.
Times are changing for [armies] and have changed for a long time and IW is adapting to that. IW has a long history [in this community] and it’s a big part of who we are so as a community we are not letting go of that. We are still hosting CPA events alongside our other community game events.
