On July 5, the newly reopened Dark Warriors announced a merger with the Mercenaries, just ahead of their anticipated opening event. Let’s examine what led to this decision and how it may impact the future of the army.

Recently, the Dark Warriors officially reopened following a period of inactivity within the community, led by a new generation of leaders: Subzero, Coolguy, Holo2, and, most recently, Kyle104. Ahead of their reopening event, the army announced a series of mergers aimed at reinforcing its foundation. Among the most notable were the Valiant Azure Knights and, more recently, the Mercenaries. Given the Dark Warriors’ rich and storied history, it’s clear that these strategic moves were made to strengthen their ranks and signal a new era of growth and resurgence for the army.

The Mercenaries also carry a rich history. Originally created by Midnight in 2023, the army has seen a wide range of leaders since its inception. After the shutdown of the most recent generation of the Dark Vikings, the Mercenaries chose to revive. Eventually, they made a return in January 2025. However, since their revival, the army has struggled with periods of inactivity, inconsistent event scheduling, and fluctuating leadership. Due to these challenges, the recent merger came after yet another difficult stretch and now marks a new beginning for the Mercenaries, this time under the banner of the Dark Warriors. With many Mercenaries members now joining the ranks of DW, this move is expected to provide great support to this new generation of the army.

Dark Warriors reopening event
Club Penguin Armies reached out to DW leader Subzero to learn more about the merger and its implications for the newly revived army.
Why did DW choose to merge with Mercs?
We saw talent and had high hopes of bringing them in, discussions went smoothly and here we are.
How do you think DW will benefit from this merger?
Time will tell, but it’s certainly had a great impact so far.
How has the merger been beneficial for the army so far?
Securing valuable members of the army has had a huge impact on DW and i’m proud to say we have a solid team. Troop to Staff interaction has been superb as well as all round communications.
What further plans do you have regarding DW and mergers?
Plenty of work and fun to be had.. I can’t say for certain but we will be trying every possible avenue with high hopes.
The Dark Warriors have their eyes set on growth, and this new merger marks a direct step toward that goal. The Mercenaries have fit almost seamlessly into the seams of DW, showing just how focused the army is on building a fresh foundation and pushing for growth. Will there be more mergers in the future? What does this new era mean for the legacy of the Mercenaries?
