Church of Aurora was a meme army that recently entered the community but has now closed its doors. This report will examine where this army began and what led to its decision.
The Church of Aurora officially registered as an army following its opening event on September 2, 2024, under the leadership of History, Fourless, Shinzo, and Aurora. At this event, the army reached its maximum size of 10.
After this event, the Church of Aurora caught the attention of many members in the Club Penguin Armies community. They rapidly attained a large number of ‘worshippers’ who prayed to Aurora daily and regularly attended events.
Consequently, COA swiftly allied with a total of five armies. These armies were the Winged Hussars, People’s Imperial Confederation, Spartans, Nether Knights of Club Penguin, and Scars of CP with the last one later announced to be a brother alliance. Their close relationship to these armies was evident, with many of their troops, as well as leaders, attending events for COA and assisting in building the church.
Even though COA did not host a large number of events, their impact on the army community was powerful. This was clear two weeks after the army’s opening in their practice battle against their brother ally, Scars of CP. COA emerged victorious, winning one of the two rooms and the other resulting in a tie.
Additionally, Church of Aurora were invited to an event by Army of Club Penguin. This was held in celebration of the Clover’s 18th anniversary in which various armies, including COA, received a personal invite to attend their ‘Operation Doomsday’. This was the Church’s final appearance at an event, on September 28, 2024.
On October 7, Aurora had stepped down as leader of COA. The statement from Shinzo, her co-leader, explained that the theme and workings of the army would not be affected by this. The announcement also described that leadership rights would be transferred to History, at least, until the end of Project Conquest.
Nevertheless, shortly following this, on October 10, Shinzo posted a declaration announcing COA’s closure which surprised members of the CPA community. The message described that a vote had taken place regarding the future of COA, asking whether the army should close or remain open. This resulted in eight members voting in favour of closing the Church and two absentees.
The Club Penguin Armies reporting team conducted an exclusive interview with Shinzo to receive some insight on the Church’s closure.
What led to COA closing?
Because of Project Conquest, Aurora wanted to start attending for ACP. However, she was disallowed because of her being an official COA leader. Then she reacted by pulling out of many CPA servers, including COA, leaving only History to lead, as I had previously also had to pull out because of the war with EGCP and now Project Conquest. History then also quit because of the same reason, as he is primarily a WH troop, so he can attend for us in the tournament. So the Church was left without leader and, first and foremost, without Aurora, rendering it useless.
What is the most memorable moment of COA to you?
The most memorable moment was probably the beginning of it all. The creation of the server and the incredible hype and fun we had with it all. It also brought some of us closer together and got a nice friend group out of it, if you can say it that way. Writing the 95 Auroresis, creating the website together, chatting a lot, logging on to actual events at first. Just the fun everyone had. It made me very happy to see that people enjoyed it. That’s definitely my favourite thing of all.
Do you see Church of Aurora making a return in the future?
There is no definitive answer to this. It may be, it may not me. The temporary closure was mentioned, but it’s all up to what the future may hold. Especially on the return of Aurora and the return of active leadership. Besides that, it depends on if the fun is still there at a later point of time. Like probably everyone saw it, it was a nice thing while it lasted, but the fun of it may as well be gone by this point. But maybe this closure will bring the fun and Aurora back one day, so in that case there could be a reopening in the further future.
Is there anything more you would like to add?
All I want to add is to thank everyone who I met during this whole endeavour and the nice time we all had and will surely keep having. It definitely brought even more fun into CPA and I hope it also did for others, whether they were part of the creation of COA or not. Praise Aurora.
In conclusion, the Church of Aurora had a short, yet impactful appearance in CPA. They attained many alliances and a victorious outcome in a practice battle two weeks after opening. COA has a unique aura and it is evident that despite its closure, it will always be a shining light to its worshippers. Do you pray for the Church’s return in the future?
