Within the army community, there are a variety of anime fans who express their love of specific anime. However, there are two significant anime which come to the forefront of people’s minds when thinking about this topic. These are: One Piece and Naruto.
These two anime are two of the most popular and successful anime of all time. They are commonly known even to those without a wide knowledge of anime culture. Their presence is felt worldwide. This shows just a fragment of how influential both these anime franchises have been and continue to be.
One Piece was originally created in 1997 and it was a part of the Shōnen Jump magazines. Since then, it has skyrocketed, leading to many games, movies, specials, series and even merchandise being released. The story revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, he aims to become the king of the pirates. The series sees him starting as a newbie to becoming an actual pirate and having many adventures.
One Piece has proven many times to be the most-watched anime and the read manga series. In 2022, it was the most-watched show, globally. Luffy also ranked in the top three as one of the Top TV characters of the same year.
The longevity of One Piece, alongside its popularity and the mass production of content has cemented its place as one of the “best” anime of all time. But is it better than Naruto?
Naruto was created in 1995 as a brief manga chapter/issue and, following in One Piece’s footsteps, it was serialized in the weekly Shōnen Jump magazines in 1999. Much like One Piece, Naruto has a series of games, anime, movies, spin-offs, merchandise and much more. While the Naruto franchise continues to this day, some might be surprised that the current series is not called Naruto. In fact, it is called ‘Boruto’, following the story of Naruto’s son.
Despite the ongoing popularity of the franchise, Naruto remains a staple of the evergrowing anime community. The character ranks within the top ten most popular anime characters on My Anime List‘s ranks and the Naruto/Naruto Shippuden anime series still ranks as one of the most popular anime on Crunchyroll. However, One Piece is placed higher on this list than Naruto Shippuden.
Another fun fact is that Luffy ranks third in the most popular anime characters’ rankings while Naruto ranks 10th. Naruto is also below Roronoa Zoro, another character from One Piece, who ranks at fifth.
With all that being said, which anime does the community think is the best out of these two? Club Penguin Armies interviewed some members of the community to find out.
Which of these two anime do you think is the best and why?
Rxer [Penguins Of Madagascar HCOM]: Naruto, Storyline was better, and it hooked me in from the start, i kept on watching on and on, but for One Piece, although the story was good, I just didnt feel hooked in like I did with Naruto, and the baddass stuff only happened later on.
!Echo [Templars HCOM]: Naruto!! It is not as long as one piece, and there is actual character development. We see naruto grow up as time goes on and we also see him get stronger. The characters are bad ass and the art style (in shippiden) is better than One Piece.
Langly [People’s Imperial Confederation HCOM]: I think One Piece. I’m not a huge fan of anything to do with ninja’s or stereotypical fighting (like what’s in Naruto), but I enjoy the plotline of One Piece. It’s unique setting is what stands out to me the most, I like how unique the concept of it is. You’d never see me watching Naruto or even reading the manga.
AustinFraud [Army of Club Penguin HCOM]: To this day, I believe that one piece is better. I’ve seen both Naruto and One Piece, but One Piece is on another level. Even if One Piece hasn’t concluded yet, the anime is an emotional roller coaster, and I knew the main character, Luffy, wasn’t going to mess about after rescuing Nami from Arlong’s clutches. Luffy is the ideal main character. Naruto and Luffy share parallels, but I’ve never seen a more goal-oriented MC in my life. I just adore how side characters are developed in both power and character, something Naruto failed to do, and how each and every character in one piece is linked to the tale in some manner, same as the previous villains where their character grows and becomes a major component to the story. I feel more linked to the characters in op than Naruto (a benefit of having 1000+ episodes imho). To this day, Oda (author of One Piece) throws some amazing stuff every chapter that still gives me thrills, and checking back on all the episodes gives me the same joy (Ex: Luffy punching a celestial dragon literally makes me happy). Another area in which One Piece excels is world building. Because One Piece is an adventure-based anime, there has to be a large world to explore, and Oda did an excellent job in establishing the One Piece world. I know that One Piece’s ending will officially make One Piece the finest anime in the world since when Oda decided to write One Piece, he already had the ending planned, which no one has predicted to this day according to the editors, so dedicate yourself to watching one piece, you will adore it.
Who do you think would win in a fight, Naruto or Luffy and why?
Rxer: Depends on what Mode their in, if they both were at their strongest (Baryon Mode and Sun god) Naruto would win easily, But Luffy’s Sun god would beat any other naruto level (Exept Six Paths and KCM 1/2) And Baryon Mode would win against every single One piece character one at a time, So I would have to go Naruto here.
!Echo: Definitely Naruto. His powers exceed those of Luffy’s. Besides naruto got kurama
Langley: Hmm, this is a tough one. I think I’d go with Naruto. I don’t know I just have this feeling that he would.. LOL
AustinFraud: Spoilers ahead, but Gear Fifth Luffy defeats Naruto without breaking a sweat. If Luffy hadn’t unlocked the gear fifth, Naruto would have won
In the responses, we saw a split between which anime is better. Two people thought that Naruto was better, while two thought that One Piece was better. One thing they aren’t split on is who would win in a fight between Naruto and Luffy. The majority believe that Naruto would defeat Luffy. Will we ever see a fight like this take place?
Austin provided some detailed thoughts regarding One Piece and their opinion about which is better. He even provided some insight into the background of the treasure of one piece and whether or not anybody knew what it is. If no one knows after over a thousand episodes, then will we ever find out? While the franchises have been running for over two decades, they continue to be a staple of the ever-growing anime community. Who do you think would win in a fight, Naruto or Luffy? Which anime is better out of these two? Be sure to let us know.
