Overview
Over the recent weeks, we have seen several armies face off in practice battles, preparing for the potential upcoming October tournament. Due to the unusual format of last year’s Project Conquest: Blood Bowl, armies know they must be prepared for anything. In an effort to get ahead of the game, the Water Vikings and Aliens faced off to sharpen their skills. These two combatants have consistently proven they are two of the most formidable modern armies.
Room 1: Stadium
WV enter this room first, with the Aliens shortly following. The Vikings quickly move into a “W” form, whilst the Aliens form a spread out L. Both armies proceed to trade coverage throughout the room’s opening minutes, with distinctly neat and organised forms providing for a close start. Sizes are 36-32 Aliens, as WV bomb utilising a big word bubble. Aliens noticeably fail to defend this bomb, before moving into an emote rake of their own.
WV transpose into an “underlined +” form, as Aliens move into an “X”, which suffers greatly from troops being AFK. WV rake the room, eventually moving into a complex “infinity” form, as Aliens also utilise an “underlined +” form. Despite the Aliens’ form struggling from bunching at the bottom, both armies performed equally in this room and shared moments of dominance. Therefore, Room 1 was a Tie.
Room 2: Iceberg
Room 2 began with the Vikings once again entering first, with the Aliens narrowly behind. The Aliens moved into a “circle,” surrounding the Iceberg. Water Vikings moved into a “sideways E”; however, they quickly moved out of this form, bombing into an “underlined V.” The Aliens waterfalled and made an “upwards arrow,” with sizes tied at 31-31 at this point. The Aliens’ vertical noticeably struggled from both bunching and AFKs. WV continued to waterfall, moving into a “triangle” formation, as the Aliens whirlpooled the room, eventually moving into an “underlined V.”
As the room continued, the Vikings looked substantially neater but struggled with completion at times, compared to the Aliens, who were overall faster and had superior completion. Both armies proceeded to bomb the room before both made an “underlined +.” WV dominated this form, giving them an advantage, with sizes at 35-32 Aliens. As a result of neater, more coherent forms, as well as being more awake towards the room’s end, WV won Room 2.
Room 3: Snow Forts
The final room begins with the Vikings again entering first, with the Aliens following in. WV moves into a “right arrow,” as the Aliens make a “square W.” Yet again, both armies exchange coverage, exchanging dominance throughout the early minutes. Aliens bomb early, shortly followed by WV. Aliens form a “triangle,” as the Vikings shift into an “X” form. Sizes during this period are 34-30 Aliens. The right side of the Aliens’ form is covered by WV, who are outpacing the Martians.
Aliens start to whirlpool the room, followed closely by WV bombing. WV forms a “uT,” whilst the Aliens make a “right arrow.” The Vikings are being covered by the Aliens, having superior completion and pace. As the room approaches its climax, the Aliens shift to an “X” form, which is unfortunately bunched, hurting their performance and causing them to lose coverage. Due to both armies having a similar standard and sharing dominance, Room 3 was a tie.
This practice battle was both scintillating and enthralling, pitting two rising forces against each other. Whilst the Water Vikings came out on top, it was a very close battle, so who knows what could happen the next time these two meet. It is transparent that both sides will be thought opponents in the remaining tournaments of this year. How do you think these armies will continue to perform? What did you think of this practice battle? What are your opinions on the results?
