Rebel Penguin Federation Wins Legends Cup IV – August 10, 2013
Announcement Of Legends Cup IV
Club Penguin Army Central announced the fourth edition of the Legends Cup tournament on June 29, 2013. The administration invited the twenty-four largest armies to participate. Next, they seeded each of these armies according to their past Top Ten placements on CPAC and Small Medium Army Central. Subsequently, the top eight received a bye to the second round. Furthermore, these armies included Nachos, Doritos of Club Penguin, Army of Club Penguin, Water Vikings, Army Republic, Rebel Penguin Federation, Ice Warriors, and Dark Warriors.
Moving on, the remaining armies competed in the qualifier and first round battles. Some of the notable lower-ranked armies consisted of Light Troops, Special Weapons and Tactics, Chaos, Water Ninjas, Watex Warriors, Pretzels of Club Penguin, Underground Mafias Army, and Pirates. Additionally, CPAC released a bracket that remained unchanged even if participants withdrew from the tournament. With the bracket set, the tournament began during the second week of July 2013. In short, the fourth Legends Cup competition proceeded as usual, with a qualifier round to further reduce the field.

Legends Cup IV Bracket
Qualifier Round Battles
Firstly, the first scheduled battle turned into a one-sided event when the Pirates forfeited to the Snow Ninjas. With the latter’s victory, the army moved on to face the Nachos. In the next battle, LT defeated Club Penguin Night Divers to advance to the first round. Soon after, SWAT earned an automatic win, as their opponent, Golden Troops, had not yet executed their revival plan. Afterwards, WW lost to the Club Penguin Police Department in a close battle.
Moreover, Black Rebels gained a spot in the first round after PCP shut down. While they weren’t initially in the tournament, they took the Freeze Warriors‘ place once the latter closed. Following their victory, Shadow Troops triumphed over WN thanks to a size advantage of 14 penguins. Similarly, Chaos had no trouble with Global Defenders as GD only had one troop online. Finally, UMA routed Death End after the latter’s no-show at the battle. Essentially, the UMA battle concluded the qualifier round of the tournament.
First Round Battles
A week later, the first round started with a battle between Snow Ninjas and Nachos. Since SN logged on late, Nachos had an automatic win and moved on to the next round. Likewise, DCP eliminated LT after the latter did not show up for the battle. Consequently, ACP eliminated SWAT due to the former’s superior tactics and larger size. After SWAT’s loss, WV ended CPPD’s run as the Vikings had a noticeable size advantage. Next, AR continued in the tournament after Black Rebels maxed out fifteen fewer penguins. Accordingly, RPF achieved its first win against ST with a unanimous vote. In addition, a controversial battle occurred between Chaos and IW that resulted in a draw. The two armies’ close tactics and sizes made it difficult for the judges to determine the winner. Comparatively, DW claimed the last spot in the quarter-finals after defeating UMA in a close battle. With DW’s win, the remaining field only included nine armies left in the tournament and in contention for the title.

Legends Cup IV Quarter-Finals
Later on, the quarter-finals commenced with a fierce battle between DCP and the Nachos. Despite their number one seed placement, the closeness of the battle provided DCP with the opportunity to defeat the highest seed. Subsequently, DCP upset Nachos and acquired a spot in the semi-finals. Following the close battle, ACP and WV participated in a tight battle where the former came out on top. Next, RPF defeated AR in a battle where both armies showed promise. Lastly, DW became RPF’s semi-final opponent after they defeated both IW and Chaos in a three-way battle. In short, the quarter-finals featured multiple close battles.

Redemption Playoffs
As CPAC announced the semi-final times, the four armies that lost in the quarter-finals obtained another chance to reach the finals. Therefore, they engaged in the Redemption Semi-Finals, where two battles occurred. In the first battle, Nachos defeated WV to reach the Redemption Final. Afterwards, AR defeated Chaos to compete against Nachos. Subsequently, Nachos took out AR to come back from their loss in the previous round. As a result, their win marked the end of the Redemption Battle Playoffs. All in all, Nachos obtained another chance at the Legends Cup title.

Legends Cup IV Grand Finals – August 10, 2013
After multiple weeks of battles, the final battle for the most coveted tournament title took place on August 10. In the past, all three armies had high placements on the CPAC Top Ten as they battled for the number one spot. Both RPF and Nachos had topped the list, while DCP was not too far behind in the rankings. Given DCP’s upset over the Nachos, they proved that they had a chance to take the title as well. Moreover, the upcoming retirements of Edd64 and Bam117 made the title especially enticing for DCP and Nachos. Thus, no one army had the title secured with the trophy up for grabs. Consequently, the battle began as Nachos had the most penguins online. Additionally, Purple Republic raided the battle, which contributed to the difficulty of the contest. Regardless, the three participants did not let the raid alter their performance. At the end of the forty-minute battle, RPF came out victorious for their first LC championship. While they did not win, Nachos had the second-best performance as they outshone DCP. Ultimately, RPF established itself as a major threat to the tournament title in the future.

Conclusion
Throughout the years, tournaments allowed armies to overcome the odds against bigger armies. Additionally, these competitions displayed how armies performed while under immense pressure. Even big armies did not always win, as shown in the Nachos’ quarter-finals loss. However, Nachos’ place in the semi-finals proved what the army was capable of doing after such a big loss. In DCP’s case, their quarter-finals performance established them as one of the strongest armies in the community. Finally, RPF lived up to expectations as one of the biggest armies of the year. In short, all three armies experienced success in one of the most prestigious tournaments. What do YOU think of Legends Cup IV? What do YOU think of the finalists? Was the redemption round needed? What do YOU think of the typical Legends Cup format?
