After only recently retiring from the Army of Club Penguin, Ugly now joins the Void Troops’ leadership. We took a look at what led to his return and what he has planned for the future.

The Void Troops have been dominating recent headlines, with their successful war campaign against the Doritos catching the attention of the community. Moreover, many members of the community, both veterans and currently active, have been joining the ranks of VT. This combination has created what many have deemed a rising force. The most recent of these joinees is former Army of Club Penguin leader, and 2024 Person of the Year, Ugly.

Ugly first began his journey in the army community at the start of 2020, first joining the Aliens of CPO, before later migrating to the Tree Cult. In this new army, Ugly rose to his first prominent leadership role in April of that year. However, his command soon ended when TC closed its doors at the end of 2020.

The following years saw Ugly join a series of armies, such as the Dark Champion, Fire Warriors, and the Secret Service. Ugly’s most recent and notable stride in the community was his tenure as the leader of the Army of Club Penguin just last year. This was an era during which Ugly, alongside co-leader Roxy, saw the army excel in a series of tournaments and wars. Some of his most notable wins were the Project Conquest: Blood Bowl championship and the infamous hundred-battle long Centenary Solstice War against the Elite Guardians.

Ugly’s Retirement from the Army of CP

The Void Troops entered the army community very recently, holding their opening event on April 27th. Co-founded by Logical and Kyle104, the army has undoubtedly had a large impact in the short time it has been around. The first month saw war victories against the Penguins of Agartha and the Special Weapons and Tactics. They later went on to perform in the Around The World Cup II tournament, though this ended in their disqualification.

Alongside these came tense practice battles against The Bastille Vanguard and the Scarlet Republic. Consequently, the Void Troops quickly asserted their position in a competitive army community. Most recently, the Void Troops took on the challenge of declaring war upon the Doritos, an army in the major-army classification group. Following a short series of invasions, the Void Troops won the war, issuing a force-treaty on the Doritos. Additionally, they themselves rose into the major-army classification group.

Following this war, the Void Troops experienced a severe Discord server defacement. During this, many channels were deleted, members banned, and Kyle104 left the leadership. However, he was quickly replaced by Ugly. After much internal strife and many tense moments, the Void Troops officially reopened the server, and this is where, officially, Ugly joined the Void Troops’ leadership. Notably, the army dropped all its land after this reopening.

Once the Void Troops were back on their feet, Club Penguin Armies reached out to Ugly for an exclusive interview, covering recent events and his plans for the future.

You have a seasoned history in armies, and no doubt have had your fair share of army experience. What made you join the Void Troops? What do you think sets Void Troops apart from the rest of the armies right now?

I’ve been chatting from time to time in the last couple months in VT, found it pretty fun to hang around a lot of people there and liked the atmosphere and culture of the army. Seemed like a place people can just be who they are and have fun, not saying other armies arent but I just personally preferred it. I know its slightly counterintuitive joining an army full of people that used to hate my guts before, but all of them were pretty chill and I liked that a lot and how the army was ran.

With the army recently going through many ups and downs, what are your short-term goals for the future? What about long-term? Are there any upcoming events you are especially excited about?

VT is a pretty good up and coming army that will need a lot of work to be set on the right path. There were mistakes along the way that took the army’s achievements and work away like being disqualified from ATWC and being defaced. I hope I get to be a part in keeping the army in order and work towards upcoming challenges. With the army just going back from defacement we’re just focusing on rebuilding the army and bringing more fun stuff to keep things rolling. VT has just reached Major status and is doing decently in the TT so we’ll keep up that momentum. Legends Cup is also on the way and although chances are below 1% to win the tourney I hope we get to go as far as possible in the tournament and beat strong contenders.

Have there been any challenges so far in leading Void Troops, and how have you handled them?

Well like I mentioned there was a lot of mistakes done, the army has been hit with a lot of backlash from recent events. On top of that the defacement obviously. Me and the team are making significant work in moving VT away from falling short in any scenario that’ll put a threat to the army’s legacy and future.

Is your stay in Void Troops planned to last, or are you around for a short-but fun- time?

Nothing planned yet so far, honestly might stay or might go when time is right it really depends on what happens the next few months.

How would you describe the current culture or vibe within the Void Troops compared to other armies you’ve been in?

I enjoy it a lot and I like how the community is and the banter nature of it. It feels like being me and doing stuff for the fun of it.

The army has had both wins and losses in its short time in the community, still, they have undeniable momentum. With experience in both major and small/medium army leadership, Ugly brings a lot to the table. The community is closely watching the army’s progress as the Legends Cup approaches, anticipating how they will grow by then. What do YOU think? Will we see continued momentum from the army? How will they perform ahead of the Legends Cup tournament?
