Editorial: The Case for Games

The earliest generation of Club Penguin Rewritten armies had multiple leaders. Being one of these, Games is a highlighted figure. Today, Small/Medium Army Legend Dillon is going to share why he believes Games is significantly more important to the community than believed.

During my time as Underground Mafias Army leader, I had several co-leaders. There were the likes of Zeke/Fudge Doge, Papa Smurf, Sir Proditor, and Sweglord. In 2018, there was Mason Cooper. But in my opinion, Games is debatably the most important and consequential out of any of them. I am a firm believer that Games’ contributions to the entire community have been minimized if not outright ignored. Here’s why.

On June 2nd, 2017, UMA forces led by Zeke and I engaged in a battle with the Rebel Penguin Federation who was found on a patrol. We began by throwing snowballs at each other. As RPF showed up to the Dojo Courtyard, UMA fell back to the Pool to regroup. As we were found by RPF, we fell back to the Stadium. Here, we were greeted by a penguin named Games. As RPF attempted to overwhelm us, Games managed to get his army known as the Miners to log on. As they logged on, the Tubas also appeared, strengthening UMA and evening out the numbers. The assault on the Cave Mine led to the combined forces forcing RPF to log off (footage of this battle can be found here ). Games was promptly offered a position in UMA as a high member. He accepted and thus began his career in UMA.

On June 23rd, 2017, Zeke defaced UMA. In an attempt to acquire a 2nd leader, I messaged Sweglord, a former Mafias leader and enemy of UMA. He accepts, but we are both aware we are on a strict limit, as Sweg’s senior year of high school is approaching. With the time we have, we stabilize the army, and I prepare for life after Sweg’s leadership. As time goes on, Games quickly rises through the ranks, being a member of the UMA high command by the time Sweg has to leave. Games quickly became my co-leader. Following this, Zeke returns to UMA.

Games’ Leadership

Games asserted himself as my equal very early into his leadership. Unlike Zeke, who had a tendency to fall in line when I would say what we were going to do, Games would often challenge it. He would ask questions that would make me second guess myself, or even outright change my mind. What I said was still final, but he would often make me think through my decisions just a bit more than I would’ve otherwise. While I wasn’t a fan of this at the time, as time has gone on, I have come to appreciate this. I recall that when we were considering a name change to Romans, Games was not a fan of it, but went along with it and stuck around for several weeks even after I had left Romans and revived UMA.

UMA’s involvement in the War of Roman Subjugation can be traced to Games being fired from Romans. As we planned for the war with our allies, the Dark Knight Empire, Games’ assertiveness shined. He would challenge ideas and make us consider our options. Despite Zeke also returning, war strategies ran through Games and I more than anyone else. Games was more willing to take risks during wars than Zeke, which led to me valuing Games’ opinion more. Games was a huge contributor to the UMADKE strategy during the war, which consequently led to our victory.

An hour into an intense battle

During the turbulent era post-WoRS, Games became the driving force of UMA. He took control when I was a figurehead. He did everything he could to keep the army together, taking over basically any and all leadership responsibilities I had left behind and also contributed to the attempted coup. You may ask yourself why I view Games in a more fond light than I do Mason. Games, to my understanding, contributed to it for 2 reasons. One, he knew that there was already a growing resentment towards my leadership, and holding the army together at this point would’ve just made the eventual collapse even worse, and two, he wanted to end the New Viking Alliance and UMA war as quickly as possible. Despite Games’ role in the attempted coup, he didn’t join the newly founded New Underground Mafias Army as he simply wanted the war to end.

In the words of Games:

Choosing a side between Mason and Dillon was a tough decision for me to make. The troops were fed up with Dillon, likely due to his overall demeanor and the state of the war. I don’t blame Dillon for being unwilling to give up his position either to satisfy some of the troops and the community, even if it were to benefit the army, it’s a hard pill to swallow. Dillon wanted isolation, which I was on the fence about. Mason was new to UMA and popular with some of the new troops. I didn’t think that removing Dillon from leadership was that terrible of an idea, considering he really didn’t do much, and I hate to say that at the time might have been a burden to the army. Dillon’s removal would bring an end to the war, but Mason was too close to the Elite Guardians for comfort, and while I was on the fence of isolation, I was definitely against the prospect of becoming a puppet. In the end, I sided with Dillon. Dillon wasn’t the greatest leader at this point, but I recognized his cultural significance as well as his connection to the UMA Crew. Outside of Club Penguin Armies (which consumed 13 year old me’s life at that point), Dillon was still my friend and it felt wrong to abandon him (even though I did 4 months prior in Romans, lol).

After the failed coup, Games became the driving force in the reunion of UMA and NUMA. He then took it upon himself to become the main leader, leading UMA in the war against the Super Strikers, which was an EGCP colony, the 2nd UMA-Romans war, and the War on EGCP Imperialism. He also contributed to the decision to begin UMA’s isolation, truly ending the original run of UMA on CPR. Even after this run ended, Games took it upon himself to continue the legacy in 2018 and 2019, as well as contributing to the planning of 2020’s Red Winter. He was also responsible for getting rid of CPO’s fake UMA in 2020. Games’ fingerprints are truly all over not only UMA’s history, but CPA history as a whole.

Invasion of Sleet, 2nd UMA-Romans War, 2018

Games’ interference with the RPF/UMA skirmish was the first domino. And everything after that was just another domino. Without him, many of the important events in 2017-2018 do not occur. Without him, Sweg retiring to go back to school for his senior year likely kills UMA, meaning Romans do not return, meaning there is no War of Roman Subjugation, War Against Dillon, or UMA Civil War. The community has vastly underrated Games, and I would like to change that.

CPR Era Community Legends/The Snubbing of Games

Mason Cooper being the 2nd S/M legend from UMA’s CPR era is baffling to me. He wasn’t a leader for 3 months, his coup was an overall failure as I remained in power, and as a leader, he won a single war… with Games and I as leaders as well. His legends bio says he was the face of UMA in February 2018. This is true, he was the face… because Games and I didn’t want to deal with being public facing after the War that led to the rebellion. He was the UMA equivalent of the president of the United States. While Mason was the public-facing leader,  he did not have much power. Every decision he made had the asterisk of needing approval from Games and I. Mason returned as a leader once after 2018 for a 2-week generation.

Mason as a solo leader(Jhon b300 was never in my UMA and never returned when Mason did, I am to believe jhon was a multilog)

Compare this to Games. Games was a leader from July 2017 to October (the Romans revival was originally just a conversion of UMA). Remained in Romans for a few weeks, then returned to UMA in early December, and ended up sticking with UMA until the day it died. He then spearheaded the generations of CPO as well as later CPR revivals. After UMA’s permanent shutdown in 2020, he led other armies such as Water Troops. Games is unquestionably a top 2 leader of the CPR era of UMA. Basically, what I am saying is, he should be a community legend, and is undoubtedly one of if not the most consequential leaders of 2017.

Games is possibly one of the most forgotten and underrated leaders of the earliest days of the modern community. What do you think? Should he receive more recognition for his work?

Insightful post! I don’t know much about this “Games” guy, but he should definitely receive more recognition for his work!
