What’s Up With The Small-Medium Wars

In an effort to provide more transparency to the community at large, the latest news provides a look inside the inner workings of the Army Board. Following the registration of many new small-medium armies, its community has been more active than ever.

June was- to put it lightly- crazy! It was one of the most active months the community has ever seen in the private server era. Even the league, Club Penguin Armies, was able to break its own post record, with 91 posts written in the month of June. It’s likely that some of our readers got lost in all of the posts. Therefore, let’s use this time to bring back the What’s Up column to cover some missed news.

War of Tailwind Conclusion

Prior to Legends Cup XIV starting on June 22, a war between Dark Pirates and Winged Hussars erupted. On June 15, the Hussars declared war on the Pirates as a means to increase small-medium army competition. However, the war would fail to captivate the community as Pirates struggled with achieving necessary war size. Despite coming out on top, it would take three attempts for the Hussars to create a force treaty that the league could uphold: known as the Treaty of Glacier.

Battle of Glacier

The failure to establish a legal treaty uncovered a glaring issue with one of the Army Board’s rulings on the server cap. (As well as made it ever more evident that armies add word vomit as an attempt to cover all imaginable bases.) Thus, the administration called for a meeting to reestablish the ruling’s wording.

clarifying and redefining

I have written in the past about the the server map’s reputation of dying off, and the Army Board was keen on fixing this issue. Upon creating the new server map, the Army Board recognized a need to limit nation size in some form. However, the creation of the server map turned into a logistical nightmare. Eventually, the server map would release on May 5.

On June 23, the Army Board met to discuss the “freeland cap” rule and its interpretation. At the time, some armies were viewing the cap as a fixed variable. Due to the confusion of the wording, the league was going down a path where, in a hypothetical situation, Army A (who has used their 8 server cap already) loses their entire nation to Army B in a war. In order for Army A to rejoin the server map, they would need to invade an army.

This immediately raises red flags as the new server map’s whole purpose was to avoid stagnation. With the way some armies were interpreting the rule, it would benefit larger nations and penalize those seeking to enter the map. Therefore, the league put to a vote whether to keep this interpretation of the rule or redefine it to the following:

Any army whose nation is less than 8 servers is allowed to gain servers through non-hostile methods (freeland invasions and server transfers). Once an army has accumulated a nation more or equal to 8, they must invade via hostile methods in order to gain more land.

An update to the “freeland cap” rule

Club Penguin Armies reached out to Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) representative, Fun X Time, to learn more about his thoughts on the vote.

[It was] good, as SWAT desired. While it does not fulfill SWAT’s primary need of having a different ruling, we are satisfied that such a ruling has been implemented to help armies continue to rage war. It should help wars increasingly flourish in the army community. We do appreciate the administrators’ work they have been putting in to hear the Army Board loud and clear.

the one day war

Server map aside, on July 2, the Power of Nature War broke out between Protectors of the Forest and the Squids. The war appeared to be a mapless war. Although Squids leader JoelFreak stated that the first army to reach five wins will be victorious, the war would end after one. Recently, the Squids participated in Qualifying Round of Legends Cup XIV, losing to Special Weapons. On the other hand, the Protectors were among the first of a string of small-medium armies to pop up recently.

Fighting in a pool of water

Club Penguin Armies interviewed JoelFreak to learn further about his actions.

Why did you start the Power of Nature War?

I got sick of these idiots saying that the forest is better than the ocean. This was a cause for a war. The ocean covers like 70% of the Earth but forests are probably like 2%. We will not stand for people saying forests are superior.

Are you satisfied with its ending?

Not really, it was supposed to be a fun war with a few battles but I guess they just didn’t want it.

Now we enter July, the league’s anniversary month, more active than ever. We are expecting the community to continue to thrive as we enter the climax of Legends Cup XIV, among other fun, exciting events heading your way. Time will only tell if the small-medium community will continue to expand. Will this summer be known as the summer of small-medium army revitalization?
