Welcome back to Behind The Scenes, the column where we look into the day-to-day life of a community member. This time, we will look into the life of Spotty who currently serves as a Top Ten Committe and Community Committee member.
Spotty joined Club Penguin on February 14th, 2009. However, she only started her journey in the army community in 2018. The first army Spotty joined was the Help Force, being with them before they even existed officially as an army. She found the Help Force through their advertisement for people to help them tip the iceberg in Club Penguin Online.
Spotty managed to help the Help Force in the early parts of its creation in March 2018, before moving to the Rebel Penguin Federation in the summer of the same year. After a time, she decided to return to Help Force and continue to aid them in their opening later that year. This prompted Spotty to take a cruise ride to the leadership position after the successful beginning of the Help Force.
Help Force would go on to participate and win trophies under the leadership of Spotty. They would go on to claim victory in Summer Bash as their first trophy (even though the Club Penguin Online Army League displays the Pirates as the official winners) and engage in wars with Light Troops and Black Alliance, proving to be a dominant army. Spotty was responsible for managing record sizes of about 90 around the end of the year, while also helping the army achieve #1 ranking in one of the Top Tens. After the closure of Club Penguin Online and the struggle to transition to Club Penguin Rewritten, Spotty would provide vital roles in the Exodus of 2019, assisting the Help Force to get back on its feet. She managed to be awarded Help Force Legend for her exceptional commitment to helping the army in its early roots.
Spotty would leave the community for some time – after being couped on February 5th, 2020 – to focus on other activities besides her army career. Nonetheless, she returned to the community a month after being requested to return to Help Force as an advisor, even though she decided to focus more on the Dark Warriors after joining their high command. Spotty would join the leadership in less than two months after joining the army.
She would host various themed weeks for the army, a tradition she implemented in Help Force during her leadership. She led the army along with her co-leaders to wage war against Doritos and Water Vikings, guiding them to sizes over 70. Moreover, Spotty managed to revive DW’s AUSIA division, due to her extraordinary work ethic and charismatic leadership. During Dark Warrior’s 13th anniversary, she was a great help, as they achieved a maximum of over 90. Sadly, Spotty would leave the Dark Warriors in December 2020 after their closure. She would go on to briefly lead the Elites for a few weeks before the shutdown of Club Penguin Army Hub and with it the army itself.
After the initial closure of Elites, Spotty joined the Army of Club Penguin as a moderator during their March Madness participation in 2021. They reached the tournament finals but lost to the Ice Warriors. Spotty would go on to be promoted to the High Command of ACP in the summer of 2021 and would be one of the EU leaders alongside Max and Agentfrog, but would leave in August due to real-life commitments.
Besides her army career, Spotty went on to focus more on playing a huge part in multiple army organizations. Her first major role in army leagues was running the Club Penguin Online Army League in late 2019 and she would go on to become a Head Judge in CPAH in 2020. Most notably, she helped create the Club Penguin Army Judges in 2022 after months of work and winning various Best Head Judge awards. She would temporarily solo run the Club Penguin Armies league in late 2022 before the introduction of new admins.
In 2023, Spotty continued to serve as Head Judge in CPAJ. However, she also joined CPA’s Top Ten Committee. This marked her return to hold a position within the league after her coup from the administrator position in March. She would be nominated as one of the best TTC members in the Winter Awards the same year. Spotty earned herself a respectable reputation in the army community, being one of the 2020 and 2023 Legend Inductions nominees and Person of The Year 2022 runner-up.
Furthermore, Spotty enjoys doing many things on her part-time away from armies. She enjoys reading books such as Harry Potter and Hunger Games and watches many movies and series like Grey’s Anatomy. Apart from that, she likes music and loves attending Taylor Swift concerts and music festivals. Spotty has two cats and two dogs, whom she spends all her time with.
Outside of these hobbies, she enjoys traveling to foreign countries a lot. Spotty studied in Paris for one year before traveling to other European countries such as Italy, Netherlands, and Hungary. She plans on visiting more countries outside of Europe such as USA, Canada, and Australia.
To learn more about Spotty, Club Penguin Armies approached them for an interview.
Who is Spotty behind the army scene?
Without a doubt I am definitely more quiet in-real than online, however once you get to know me any shyness goes out of the window. I graduated University last year with a degree in Business and Economics and currently trying to find my ideal job. These days I can be found hanging out with my 4 pets, 2 cats 2 dogs, reading books, watching tv, or even making a scrapbook based on my year abroad.
How would you describe your personality?
As mentioned at first I’m most certainly a bit on the quiet side, however it doesn’t take much for me to get out of my shell. If I’m put into a group setting I can be found jumping right into the situation and being an active member. I am also a very passionate person for things that I love such as my animals and travelling, and if asked about those topics I could certainly go on talking for hours.
When searching for a book to read, what type of genre do you specifically go for?
Honestly anything, obviously covers attract me from afar, however I do not judge a book by its cover. I can be found spending spending hours online and in bookshops reading the backs of books, so it comes to no surprise that I have a massive to-read pile in my bedroom. Book series that I adore includes Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Bridgerton.
Do you plan on joining back more armies in the future?
100% absolutely no. I love being unaffiliated and would never go back to proper enlistment at all, the extent to my event attendance is anniversary events or cow events. Being unaffiliated makes my life as a Head Judge a lot easier as I do not have any links to armies, meaning I can judge pretty much any battle.
What do you like so much about being a Head Judge?
For one it’s definitely because of how much effort I have put into the judging community throughout the last 4 years, especially within CPAJ, which turns 2 in a few weeks time. Additionally, I love seeing how each army improves from each battle they participate in based on feedback they are given. It is also interesting to witness different leaders in battles, how they react, and how every leader has a different perspective. I also love training new judges and encouraging people to join our team. Unlike most people, I can also be found writing summaries most battles, this is because I actually miss writing as previously I had media posts and uni essays, which I now have neither. Although, I also like to make sure armies understand why the result is what it is, hence the extremely detailed summaries
Is there anything you regret in your army career and you wish to change it?
Despite having had a very dramatic and very public past, there isn’t really much I would change, as I believe everything happens for a reason. The main thing I would change would be becoming unaffiliated a lot earlier than I did as I have regrets from joining the last army I was in, and staying as long as I did. I also wish I had made CPAJ a few months earlier, as maybe CPAN would not have had the War of No Judges.
What motivates you best to keep going in your army career?
CPAJ 1000% motivates me to keep going as I spent months alone putting in so much work to ensure the organisation was a success. Having a supportive team working with me consisting of Mare, Popcorny, Paddy, and Yvng helps a lot too, as nothing can stay successful or trustworthy without a team who supports one another.
What is your association with cows?
LOOOL ok so in 2018 Ayan joked and said I sounded like a cow because of the British accent, and because of the name Spotty, and cows being spotty, I have been called Spotty Cow ever since. I have been known to encourage armies to do cow events, even hosting multiple myself. Additionally, I have several cow emotes related to me and embrace the name whenever it’s mentioned as it is an old joke and I find it funny that 6 years later it’s still mentioned.
Spotty has proven herself a remarkable member of the community, demonstrating her capabilities in many armies and leagues. She confirms we will not be seeing any army affiliation from her in the future. However, she states she will continue to serve the community as a Head Judge and work every day to improve. What do you think Spotty will do next?
