Time Capsule: Summer Awards

Welcome to Time Capsule. This is the column where we ask community members questions about their goals and predictions for the remainder of the year, which we’ll eventually look back on. This week, we are going to look to the past AND future.

Designed by Master DS

It has become tradition every year for the surviving community site to host the annual Summer Awards. It serves as a way to celebrate the end of the summer as well as give big props to those who have accomplished much since the new year. It’s become so traditional that even armies tend to host their own annual Summer Awards, as well. This year, as a way to top off our Summer 2023 @ CPA schedule, Club Penguin Armies will once again be hosting the Summer Awards and Summer Gala.

A sneak peak

Last year saw a two armies in particular win out pretty consistently. We’re hoping for closer race this time around. Thus, for this week’s Time Capsule, we wanted to hear from some past winners and their thoughts on this year’s potential candidates.

Summer Awards are just around the corner. How would you compare the current state of the community to that of last year’s?

Legoman, Special Weapons and Tactics: Hard to compare entirely, namely due to the shift in Legends Cup time from last year. Obviously the number one spot has fluctuated over the year, very different from 2022. The community is way more alive in terms of warfare with both the Army of Club Penguin (ACP) versus Elite Guardians (EGCP) war and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) versus Templars war. In terms of general maxes the community appears to be dwindling a bit lower.

Nicky_3070, Templars: The community was more active last year compared to this year with events such as Beach Brawl having more armies participating last year than this year.

Yvng, Rebel Penguin Federation: How I would compare it by the community being in a similar state to that of last year’s. The community is still overall maxing similar sizes to those of last year with maybe a slight decline but nothing really that noticeable in my opinion. Outside of army sizes, I haven’t really seen any significant changes either. I would say the community as a whole has been stable not doing better or getting worse.

Last year, you won Best Small-Army Leader! Who do you think are the big contenders this year?

Legoman, Special Weapons and Tactics: Probably like all the People’s Imperial Confederation (PIC) leaders because PIC is fire.

Last year, Templars won Biggest Army! Who do you think are the big contenders this year?

Nicky_3070, Templars: I feel like the two biggest contenders are ACP and EGCP.

Last year, you won Best Higher Command! Who do you think are the big contenders this year?

Yvng, Rebel Penguin Federation: I think some big contenders are anyone from Rebel Penguin Federation (RPF) as I believe myself and the other Higher Command (HCOM) as a whole have done our part this year. I can also see any HCOM from ACP, Help Force (HF) or Water Vikings (WV) being big contenders as well due to those armies having a lot of people backing them up and they have been some of the bigger armies this year. Anyone who ends up being nominated out of the three will be good contenders.

Who do you think will win [that award]?

Legoman, Special Weapons and Tactics: There’s a lot of contenders, but me personally I wouldn’t mind defending the title for the third year in a row.

Nicky_3070, Templars: I think it will be ACP because of sizes they achieved in Legends Cup [XIII] and in the war with EGCP.

Yvng, Rebel Penguin Federation: I don’t know who will win but, looking at history, it will probably be someone from a big army who got a lot of votes backing them up because of that.

What prediction do you have for this year’s Summer Awards aside from the award we’ve already talked about?

Legoman, Special Weapons and Tactics: A case could be made for either ACP or EGCP for Biggest Rise and Best Major Army. I’d put Mare for Best Head Judge, alongside Ice Warriors‘ closure as most controversial moment (with Rowan and Spotty’s coup not far behind). [Next,] Master DS for Best GFX Designer [and,] ideally, SWAT as Best Small-Medium Army. Da Best sweeping Brightest Bulb with a “fourpeat” beating out the likes of Camzambie75 and Clade. Ending of course with big Maguro for Best HCOM and that cute looking Mchappy guy for Best Chief Executive.

Nicky_3070, Templars: Probably some more army related awards like Best Army, Best Leader, Biggest Rise, some judges awards and other Club Penguin Armies staff awards, and maybe a Brightest Bulb.

Yvng, Rebel Penguin Federation: I don’t really have any predictions really. The usual best army will probably go to ACP, HF, or RPF for winning tournaments this year and maybe WV for being a dominate army in general. Major army leader will probably go to the leaders of one of those armies as well. As for the other categories, it’s a tossup to me to see whose nominated and who ends up winning the award.

As mentioned by their answers, this year has felt a lot more competitive. That means any award can be up for grabs. Who do you think will win big at the Summer Awards 2023?
