Top Active Armies: January 2026 Edition

This January saw a surge in general community activity. There were armies opening, others going to wars with each other, and a large number of general community events, such as Operation: WinterStorm, taking place.

Introduction

This post will follow a similar format to the two previous ones of this type, in which I tried to find a correlation between mainchat activity and army sizes. The first edition was aimed at June 2025, then the following one at November 2025. This time, I am focusing on the final 4 weeks of January, specifically January 4-31. Unlike the other two times, though, I will mainly focus on the data analysis and less on the philosophy behind the importance of the main chat, as it has been analyzed already.

Collected Data

Once again, in order to figure out the formula that connects mainchat messages with size points, as well as make the Top Active armies board, I have collected message and Top Ten data. I chose to include only four weeks out of the five of January, as the former posts also included 4 weeks. I cut off the first week of January, as it was affected by New Year’s and included the Christmas Chaos XV finals as well. The 4 weeks still had much action, with several wars going on, involving many armies, as well as Operation: WinterStorm taking place in the last one.

I collected data for 13 of the largest armies, as most of the rest did not consistently host events. There are some, though, like the Shadow Legionaries, who are missing, as I did not have access to their main chat. For these armies, I also collected their Top Ten size points so I can make the comparison.

Explaining the Data

You can easily notice some data missing in the coloured cells. The Water Vikings archived their mainchat on the third week of January, so only the last week is included. The Templars lost their old server after suffering a deface, which is why there is only one week included. It should be noted that for TCP, the messages counted were from the days between January 30 and February 5, as January 30 was the first day of the new server. When it comes to the Teutons, their army opened in the second week of January, so I did not include the first week when it comes to the messages sent.

Regarding the colours in the army names, armies coloured blue mainly used CPA: Battleground, while orange coloured armies mostly used Club Penguin Journey. The Void Troops alternated between CPAB and CPJ each week, which is why they are coloured differently. Additionally, I added the sum and the average for each army for the entire month.

Lastly, notice that I used the “,” symbol instead of “.”, so size averages are written as 50,59, for example, instead of 50.59. The data was collected based on my timezone, so if you count the mainchat messages yourself, you may get slightly different numbers.

Data analysis

Mainchat Messages

The Rebel Penguin Federation had the most messages in a week, a total of 70142. They also had the highest average, 66521, followed by the Templars, with 60193 and the Water Vikings, with 48129. Surprisingly, in the fourth and fifth places, there were two Small Medium armies. Those were the Dark Warriors with 32896 and the Void Troops with 26295.

The army with the fewest messages was the Teutons, which also had the fewest in a week and the smallest average, 1452. The following smallest average was held by the Star Force, having 2209 messages.

Week 4 had the most messages community-wide, as expected, since it’s the only week with data for WV and TCP. The armies had 321911 messages collectively that week, an average of 24762 per army. In total, in the full 4 weeks, there were over 973 thousand messages.

At the same time, Club Penguin Armies had 92132 messages in its mainchat. Most were in the third week, a total of 37181.

Size Points

Once again, RPF had the most size points, with a total of 212.38, and the most in a week, 55.80. Subsequently, they also had the highest average, 53.10.  They were followed by the Army of Club Penguin with 50.59, while further behind them was TCP with 36.82.

The Major army with the fewest points was the Help Force, having 24.70, while the Small Medium with the most was the Dark Warriors, with 18.51. This shows they have been close to hitting Major status for a while, before finally achieving it this week. The Special Weapons and Tactics, which has now shut down, was the army with the fewest size points. They had an average of only 5.25.

November – January comparison

Comparison between November 2025 and January 2026

Almost all armies increased in size points. The only exceptions are the Void Troops, the Help Force and the Star Force, with the first having the biggest drop of -9. The largest rise was seen by the Templars, +25.5, which was followed by the ACP with 13.7. The Romans were the most consistent, growing only by 0.4.

At the same time, TCP also had the biggest message increase, going up by 42681, ending up more than tripling its message count. They were followed by DW, which went up by 12615. The biggest drop was seen by WV, -18942, with VT being second, having 7269 fewer messages than in November. The most consistent army was the Help Force, gaining only 22(!) messages compared to November.

Graphs and correlation

Size Points Compared to Messages in the Mainchats

As mentioned before, the armies that mainly used CPAB are the blue ones. With orange are the main CPJ ones. VT used both, almost equally, while not hosting events in a week, which is why they are yellow. It should be noted that the Scarlet Republic points are more than expected, which is due to two spikes. One from their return and the other one from their war against ACP and WV, having the Aliens on their side. The Teutons also have more size points than expected, as they also had their opening event in January.

Regardless, the armies that use CPJ, still appear to be above the ones that use CPAB, with the exception of SF, which is lower than expected, as it did not host events for two weeks, out of the total four. All graphs use a logarithmic scale for the x axis (mainchat messages), so the differences can be depicted better.

Analysing the Graphs

Size Points Compared to Messages in the Mainchats for the CPJ Armies

Due to the SF only hosting events in two weeks and ACP being an outlier, the line is not that accurate. The closest equation that depicts the correlation as accurately as possible is y=0.0005x + 20.253, with y = size points and x = mainchat messages.

Size Points Compared to Messages in the Mainchats for the CPAB Armies

This line is much cleaner than the previous one. At the same time, it grows slower than the other one, and starts from a lower level. The closest equation that depicts the correlation as accurately as possible is y=0.0004x + 9.0437, with y = size points and x = mainchat messages.

What If … Was An Army

  • What if CPA was an army? With an average of 23033 messages, it would get 31.77 size points on average if it used CPJ. This would place it between the Aliens and WV. If it used CPAB it would get 18.25 size points, so around where DW stands.
  • What if all armies merged? With 321911 messages in a week, they would get 137.80 size points if they used CPAB. At the same time, they would have 181.21 size points, possibly breaking records.

Last of all, here is a Top Ten armies for January based on the average number of messages per army. The arrows depict the difference between the placement in November’s Top Ten Active Armies.

Did you enjoy this post? Was the Top Ten Active Armies what you expected? Do you believe the main chat activity has any correlation with the troop attendance? Do you believe that using CPJ helps with growing an army? Or are the armies abusing the rogue troop system to get more points? What are your thoughts? What will the next Top Ten Active Armies look like? One thing is known for sure. Now that there is more data from several months, the next post of this type can include a larger variety of metrics.
