We are currently at the peak of winter, just a few weeks into the new year, and almost a month after Christmas. It is now the perfect time to move on with more details about the community’s new map beta test, Operation: Winterstorm, at a time when the community is very heated and has many conflicts.

Introduction
Despite being in the middle of winter, unlike what most people would have predicted, the community’s activity is at a peak currently. This is also visible from the several currently ongoing wars and the constant army activity. It is also evident through the emergence of new armies, the return of others, and the closure of some. Characteristically, there were 20 armies hosting events throughout the past week, a number not seen in a while. This shows that now is the best time for the new map to be released. In order for that to happen, though, it needs to undergo final testing. The best way to do that is through Operation: WinterStorm, which will also give some experience surrounding the new economy system and its addition on the map, preparing them for the time it fully releases. Thus, it is a good practice for army leaders and members.
Initially, it was planned as a longer lasting tournament, but due to several armies just having exited Christmas Chaos XV, there was not much interest in a long tourney. For that, given the necessity of a beta test, we have decided to change the format and turn it into a community wide event that lasts for about a week. Last week, the tournament and the army sign up phase were announced, with several armies signing up. The event is not dependent on armies, though, but on the community’s individual members. The economy system and the special rules, such as the adjacent land rule and others, were explained in the first post, so they won’t be analyzed here too.
Teams distribution
Each team will represent a color and wear items of that color. There will be four teams in total. The armies that have signed up will be messaged by the Administrators and assigned to specified teams. Members from armies that have not signed up, or people who are unaffiliated, or don’t know their armies’ team, can select and join any of the four teams. This allows all community members to participate at an individual level instead of an army one and makes the tournament more randomised.
Speaking of channels, each team will have its own secret special channels in the Club Penguin Armies Discord server to coordinate with its members. It should also be clarified that people will be able to select their team via reacting in a channel that will be made public around the time of this announcement. After reacting, they will be given the team color they have chosen. Additionally, team roles also grant image perms in the mainchat and the team’s special channels, for the duration of the tournament. Team leaders and members are free to ask the Admins for clarifications regarding the rules if they feel something is too complicated or if they are unsure.
The four teams are the following:
- Team Black
- Team Blue
- Team Green
- Team Red
Each team will elect its leaders on Thursday/Friday through a poll made by the Administrators. People are requested to message JojoTeri beforehand if they wish to be nominated for joining the team’s leadership. Each team will have 3 leaders, who may be increased up to 5, and their responsibility will be to schedule events both in CPA and in the Club Penguin Army Judges server, lead them, and use the economy system to ensure their team wins. Army leaders will be prioritized in the nominee selection so they get the chance to receive training on the new map and economy system before the full release.
Notes:
- When selecting a team, in the #team-selection channel, you cannot undo your selection yourself. Additionally, your reaction is automatically removed by the bot as soon as you get the role. If you wish to change teams, message JojoTeri.
- You cannot change teams after Saturday, January 24, 8am EST/ 1pm UTC.
- Every member of the Discord server is eligible to join a team.
- The new map will be made public on the website on Thursday. Each team will have 7 pieces of land. They will be as separated from each other as possible, so that no team gets instantly “sandwiched”.
Extra MAp Beta adjustments
To ensure that the tournament becomes even more fast-paced, the following changes will take place
- Battles will contain 2 rooms instead of 3. A third room will only happen if there is a need for overtime.
- Armies will be able to have 2 freelands invasions scheduled and 2 invasions against another army at any given point.
The rest of Operation: Winterstorm rules can be found in the first announcement, here.
General Rules
To ensure the map beta runs smoothly, we have established the following rules based on previous and recently updated tournament policies. Please make sure to read them carefully.
- No Reviews
- People can only attend for one Team.
- The judging will be undertaken by Club Penguin Army Judges and organized by the Head Judges.
- Each team has the right to veto up to one judge per battle. Vetoes must be made before the 1-hour mark and cannot be used against Head Judges unless they are affiliated with a team. If no available judges remain after the vetoes, the Head Judges may appoint individuals, including those previously vetoed, to ensure the battle proceeds smoothly.
Each room will have three judges. If there are not enough judges, a Head Judge may count as two. Free land invasions will have one judge. - Anybody banned from CPA: Battleground cannot participate in tournament battles.
Tournament dates
Just a reminder in case you forgot.
Start Date: Saturday, January 24th, 9 AM EST
End Date: Sunday, February 1st, 9 AM EST
Up until Saturday, January 24, at 8am EST, battles can take place in the old map. After that, it will be fully paused to prepare for the WinterStorm beginning. The new map, post WinterStorm, will be fully launched on February 1, some hours after WinterStorm has ended, at a time to be decided by the Army Board and after the capital draft has taken place.
The Administration would like to give a huge shoutout to both Df44 and Dino. Without them, CPA would never deliver a server map of such caliber and quality for our loved armies. Not only have they made a great map, but they were also able to integrate the economy system in it and add extra functions that will make it more interactive than ever before. We are confident this will encourage a warfare environment in the community.
As always, we would like to thank our partners, the Club Penguin Army Judges, for their continuous support. We would also like to thank the Club Penguin Army Battleground and its staff, who have helped provide a safe, stable space to host events and battles. Last but not least, we thank Master DS, who came up with the Operation: Winter Storm branding.
Of course, we thank YOU, the community, for supporting this very organization, and for your patience while the map was being developed. We wish to see you all in the battlefield participating in Operation: Winterstorm!
