Marines Splash Back into the Community

On November 15, the community saw the return of one of the oldest Club Penguin Armies, the Marines. Today, we will investigate the events leading up to their revival and recap the army’s history.

Army History

The Marines are one of the oldest armies, claiming to be the fifth ever established army. They date back to November 20, 2006, and were created by Army Legend SF1998, establishing the first-ever Army WordPress site. The army is notably the oldest ally of the Army of Club Penguin. Oagalthorp, ACP creator, even lists them on the army’s Hall of Fame due to their connection.

Between 2007 and 2014, there were many illegally revived generations of the Marines; however, this changed in February 2014. Being formally revived by Sidie9 and Agentrds/Rexeh, the army would be reformed into a Small/Medium powerhouse by Totidile. Engaging in wars with armies such as the Rebel Penguin Federation, as well as reaching second place on the Club Penguin Army Central Top Ten, the Marines were a force to be reckoned with. The Marines would achieve sizes of 50+ on Club Penguin Online; however, the army closed its doors for the last time in 2020.

Recent Revival

Last week, the Marines officially registered with Club Penguin Armies, under the command of Sidie9, Shallissa, and Miffy. Being the first generation in half a decade, many were confused as to the return of this historic army. At their revival event, they saw a max of 3, highlighting the differences between older generations and the present. With two of these members being established leaders with histories in armies such as the People’s Imperial Confederation and the Templars, many are excited to see what they will get up to.

The Marines’ revival event

To find out more about the army’s revival, Club Penguin Armies reached out to Miffy for an exclusive interview.

I. What led to the revival of Marines, especially since it is such an old army?

well it was first proposed by jemma. she, alongside shallissa and myself, was looking at armies she has perms for to revive (partially for fun, but also just for old times sake) and i suggested marines. i think she would’ve been more hesitant about reviving it in a less-serious manner if the last gen wasn’t so botched by joel. i also have the personal philosophy that army history (although important, as it is history) should not define what an army could be in the present and future. more people should be willing to bring these older, historical armies into the contemporary army age.

II. How are you, alongside your co-leaders, planning to bring this historical army into the modern age?

truthfully there are no plans, we really did this just to have fun (and because we could). anything that happens after the revival is purely out of us messing around and enjoying ourselves

III. What are your upcoming goals and aspirations for the army? Do you have any plans for establishing diplomatic relations? Do you intend to get on the map and engage in conflict?

i don’t think we have any goals or aspirations, it was a revive so we could say we did and so we could have fun and troll as the marines. imagine newgen miffy marines leader, theres humour in the contrast of that. if we do actually decide to do anything with the army, it’ll likely be jemma telling me and sha what to do and we will listen

Evidently, the future of the Marines is uncertain due to the humorous nature of its revival. However, we are hopeful they will achieve great things. Furthermore, we could be looking at a new generation of greatness. But what do you think? What are your thoughts on this revival? Could we see the Marines return to their former glory?
