INTRODUCTION

The Romans have had a rich history, being founded in 2006 by Explorer7777, making it one of the oldest armies. Throughout its time, it has undergone multiple revivals, maintaining its influence in the community. The army was most recently revived in June 2025. The Romans have seen much success as a small/medium and participated in the Summer Blitz tournament, having the third-highest amount of servers at the conclusion of the tournament, highlighting this generation’s success.

On the other hand, the Special Weapons and Tactics were founded in 2009 by Ganger90 and gained prominence during the 2010s. SWAT has had many influential leaders, and has won a variety of tournaments, revealing itself as being a major and S/M force throughout its time despite times of struggle. Currently, the army is led by WilliamW2010 and is still a substantial force in the community, also participating in the Summer Blitz tournament despite their loss.

A SUDDEN DECLARATION

The Romans declared an off-map war on SWAT on September 7, with the first two invasions being scheduled on September 9 and September 10, respectively. The war lasted approximately a week. There were a total of 9 battles, many of which were no-shows by either the Romans or SWAT.

TREATY

On September 14, the Romans invaded the territory of Special Weapons No Tactics and won successfully. This win was also the fifth successful invasion of SWAT’s off-map servers. Therefore, according to the war terms, the war was over with a war score of 7-0-2 in favor of the Romans. Following this, the Romans imposed the Treaty of Ice Breaker.

To find out more about the war and its conclusion, Club Penguin Armies reached out to Romans High Command, Tom, and SWAT leader WilliamW2010.

Did you expect the war to unfold like it did, or did you expect a different outcome?

Tom: To be quite frank we expected more of a challenge. During Summer Blitz they were tough opposition to face, unfortunately this didn’t carry on into the war.

WilliamW2010: I did know the odds were against us, but not that Romans would no-show most our invasions

Do you think the war changed the relationship between the Romans and SWAT?

Tom: The dynamic between Romans and SWAT shifted during Summer Blitz. What was meant to be a fun tournament for S/M armies turned into a chore as SWAT were only targeting the Romans. Many of us felt burnt out and frankly stopped caring about the tournament in its latter stage’s.

WilliamW2010: Off-map so we are at least not that petty. Romans also seemed to be casual about it

Are there any things your army learned from the war?

Tom: We’ve been through a turbulent period recently with unexpected unavailability, especially from our leadership. The main point of this war was to evaluate where we are currently as an army and I’m happy with our progress over the past few weeks.

WilliamW2010: That war can come any time and that we must be prepared

What are your plans to move forward after the war?

Tom: We know September is a difficult month for all armies and recruitment will be a struggle. I’m happy with the progress we’ve made as an army and for now the focus is stability.

WilliamW2010: Recruiting ‘o plenty and actually checking what people are doing when they can’t attend

Finally, do you have anything you would like to say?

Tom: Although we are disappointed with SWAT’s performance I’d like to commend William for trying to grind out results, he is definitely someone I would like in my army. Most of all I’d like to thank the leadership and HCOM for backing me. I am a controversial figure in the community and they took a gamble making me 2nd in command. I will continue to do my best not only for the army, but for those who have put their faith in me.

WilliamW2010: We’d like to thank the army named after a historical empire that fell catastrophically for giving us this experience. I do not contemn the Romans leaders.

The war between the Romans and SWAT was a conflict with several no-shows from both sides.  However, the war saw many interesting and close battles. Despite this, the Romans were able to come out on top, demonstrating their dominance and possibly marking a new start for both armies. What do you think about the war? What do you think is next for the Romans?
