Passing the Torch: Leadership Impacts

Throughout the Club Penguin Armies’ history, leaders’ appointments have resulted in great successes or major setbacks, making a lasting impression on the army’s heritage. This editorial will examine the heroic leaders who were the crowning achievement of their army and the ineptitude ones who acted as the thorn that undermined their army’s legacy.

Flamez – Ice Warriors

Flamez started his army journey in 2009 and has been active in the Ice Warriors, as well as other armies. He returned to IW in 2019 and worked his way up to a leadership position in March 2020. During his time as a leader, he led the army to win March Madness twice. He also led the army to multiple war victories. Throughout that, the army was maxing 100+ at times, peaking at a max of 165+. His efforts have led him to being inducted into the Ice Warriors and the Rebel Penguin Federation‘s hall of fames. After his retirement in 2021, he was also inducted as a legend within Club Penguin Armies.

CRAZZY – Rebel Penguin Federation

Crazzy first joined the Rebel Penguin Federation in June 2019. She showed a leadership talent, and this led her to rise up the ranks quickly, being promoted to Higher Command by the end of the year. Crazzy was already working with RPF veterans, which helped her get more army experience. In June 2020, she got a promotion to Rebel Commander and led RPF to victory in Legends Cup X. This helped reinforce the army’s domination within the CPA community. Afterwards, she played a key role in establishing the Black Ice Alliance, then won the Fright or Fight and Christmas Chaos X tournaments. This all led her to become an Army Legend as well as Person of the Year for 2020.

CALGOCUBS21 – Army of Club Penguin

Calgocubs21 first joined the army community with the Army of Club Penguin in 2006. He then joined other notable armies at the time; however, he left the community in 2011. He rejoined the ACP in 2021 and worked his way up the army ranks, earning the title of Commander-in-Chief in 2022. At this point, the army was struggling, having very low maxes. However, this all changed in December, when ACP went to war with the Special Weapons and Tactics, and the army started to grow massively. Later on, the Clovers were a major army in World War IX, and soon after that, he, alongside Austinfraud and Coolguy, led the army to win the Legends Cup XIII tournament. He retired on October 1, 2023, and won Person of the Year for 2023.

AARONSTONE42 – Water Vikings

Having already leadership skills from the Underground Mafias Army, Aaronstone42 led the Water Vikings during an era referred to as the ‘Blue Summer’ in 2013. He helped the army become relevant, which earned him the status of one of the ‘Great Leaders’ in the WV Hall of Fame. Fast forward to 2021, he led the revival of WV in July of that year. WV rose to sizes of 25+, and they declared themselves the winners of a war against the Templars of Club Penguin. Afterwards, he led the army to a victory in the Champions Cup VI tournament. During his leadership, WV also advanced to the finals of Legends Cup XII. Sadly, the Vikings shut down about a month after his retirement. This showed how much he helped the army stay afloat.

MEI – Water Vikings

On the other hand, some leaders can undermine an army. An example is Mei, who was inducted into the Water Vikings leadership in March 2024. Shortly after that, WV won the March Madness IX tournament. However, the army’s sizes began dropping, and following two leader retirements, WV dropped to a Small/Medium classification in June 2024. After that, WV went on a month-long hiatus. However, after that, Mei was removed from the position of Viking Leader. The reason for this was that an investigation revealed misconduct.

WV’s executive decision to remove Mei from leadership

Throughout the history of Club Penguin Armies, there have been numerous army leaders who have stepped up and helped their army prosper with smart decisions. Contrary to this, some leaders have instead worsened their army’s performance. Obviously, being a leader is no easy task, and making smart choices can often be difficult. If you were an army leader, what decisions would you do?
