Welcome to This Day In History, the column that connects today with the past by reviewing notable events that occurred on this date in previous years. Nine years ago, Club Penguin Armies Central announced the results of the legends inductions, while seven years ago, a coup took place in the Rebel Penguin Federation.

July 27, 2014
On this date, Club Penguin Army Central Chief Executive Officer Bluesockwa1, alongside former Legends Committee President Boomer20, announced the results of the Legends inductions deliberations. In this process, three legends were introduced to the community.
B1 highlighted in the article that, straying from the usual standards for the induction process, the committee also voted on ‘members of the old warfare’, figures of the past that were not inducted in previous cycles. This marked one of the first deliberations to consider candidates retrospectively. From the active members, leaders from the Dark Warriors, Golden Troops, and Purple Republic were put on the ballot. Former CEOs of CPAC, Sklooperis, and Iasgae56 were also included. In total, 17 candidates were voted on, as well as a single revote on Ganger90.

Out of the 17 candidates considered for Legend Status, only three were inducted: Abercrombe29 and Kg 007 (both with a 10–10 vote, though Kg 007 was inducted through a waiver), and Spaceybirdy with a favorable 12–8 vote. The remaining 14 individuals did not achieve induction, with many receiving significantly more “No” than “Yes” votes, most notably Xxtoysoldier (1–19), Mustapha10 (2–18), and Violantealleta (2–18). One candidate, Sercan4444, received a viewer vote boost (+1 Yes) but still fell short at 4–16.
July 27, 2016
A week prior to this date, the duo Badboy and Taco were inaugurated as the newest Rebel Commanders of the Rebel Penguin Federation. Nonetheless, Elmikey made a surprising announcement on July 27, 2016, removing both from leadership. In the post, Elmikey states that the Rebel Penguin Federation had no internal problems until Badboy and Taco were inducted, and because of this, he has decided to coup them.
RPF’s leadership believed that the reason their army was suffering from internal issues, such as ‘mass hordes of bots, hackings, doxxes, and DdoSes’ was because of their inauguration as Rebel Commanders.

Do you think it was a fair assumption on RPF’s leadership end? Were the Legends Committee deliberations stricter than they are today? Or more lenient?
