OVERVIEW

With the Legends Cup XV approaching quickly, armies across the community are stepping up their preparation through intense practice battles and competitive events. In a rare and exciting format, the Void Troops, Water Vikings, and Help Force agreed to meet in a three-sided showdown. Each army holds Major status and has a strong history in battle, which made the encounter even more intense. All three are also in the Top Ten, conveniently one after the other. The addition of a third army brought a new level of pressure and unpredictability, resulting in chaos that demanded much of the three armies. This kind of strenuous battling is perfect for correcting any weaknesses the armies may have, just in time for the tournament.

ROOM 1 – MINES

Room one began with the Water Vikings entering first, followed by Void Troops, and then Help Force. WV and VT combined into an underlined T formation. The Helpers had attempted a triangle before joining the Vikings and Troops. Within the underlined T, however, WV had controlled the chat bar. The first to break form was HF, who executed a rake bomb. By this point, WV had clear dominance and size, with VT appearing small. Following the rake bomb, the Helpers settled into a horizontal line while VT carried out bombs and waterfalls. WV defended these well. After that, WV moved with a bomb of their own, although hindered by a few AFK’s. HF defended nicely but unexpectedly got overwhelmed in size by WV.

After WV’s bomb, VT formed an underlined V as HF bombed back. The sizes were 21 Vikings, 14 Troops, and 11 Helpers. HF then moved into a Y formation, but seemed to have gaps in their formation. VT was also noted to have suffered from gaps. HF then shifted to a T formation that fixed their spacing issue. Next, VT did a rake that WV was ready for. Counterattacking, WV waterfalled as HF defended with a flicker tactic. During this, VT gathered into a plus formation, but seemed to be slow in execution. Finally, WV made a backwards L as HF bombed. Due to their speed in tactics and forms, WV wins room one. VT is awarded second, and HF third.

ROOM 2 – DOCKS

WV once again entered first, then VT, and HF after. WV did a rake as VT and HF bombed the room. The armies then executed formations: a backwards L from WV, a diagonal by HF, and an underlined T from VT. The sizes were 20 WV, 13 VT, and 10 HF. Moving out of form, WV bombed the room. Despite suffering from AFK’s, WV still showed good coverage. HF put up a decent defense against WV and then counter-bombed. The precise movement from this bomb left WV and VT with no defense. WV later moved into a plus as HF formed an underlined V. Despite some messiness from WV, the form was clean enough to cover VT. HF, and their underlined V saw troops out of form, which showed gaps. Throughout this chaos, the sizes were 16 Vikings, 12 Troops, and 10 Helpers.

Near the end, HF carried out a clean waterfall, while VT took some time to form an underlined V. HF then moved into a diagonal. The sizes at the end of the room were 18 WV, 13 VT, and 13 HF. Finishing off the room with good speed, WV claims room two with VT second and HF third.

ROOM 3 – ICEBERG

The third room saw the same entry order: WV first, VT second, and HF third. The opening sizes were 16 Vikings, 14 Troops, and 10 Helpers. Starting the action, WV efficiently formed an underlined V, while HF made a plus. At the same time, VT had attempted an unknown form before quickly moving into an underlined V. Dropping form, WV transitioned into a rake, but HF put up a good defense. VT also held better coverage against WV, forcing them to stop the rake and form a V. The Troops then formed an upside down Y. WV displayed good speed and a clean form during execution. VT was also said to have good speed.

At the 25-minute mark, HF performed a rake. This was seen as a late move from the judges. The rake was well-crafted though, as WV put up a bad defense. After some more fighting, WV and VT both moved into an underlined V. As VT moved, HF was exposed for having bad form before repairing into an underlined T. WV then bombed the room, but the Troops and Helpers defended well. Finishing the room, WV made an L formation as VT moved into a waterfall before closing out with a T form. Displaying good completion and battle domination, the Water Vikings win the final room and take the victory cleanly, 3-0. The Void Troops end in second, with Help Force at third.

In a practice battle that required a heightened focus and careful planning, the three armies persevered from start to finish. Each army demonstrated it can handle that increased pressure. Despite the dominant win from Water Vikings, it came with some difficulty. Both Void Troops and Help Force showed off their battle prowess, demonstrating key strengths to watch out for. With Legends Cup XV around the corner, this battle gave each army a chance to refine on something before the real challenge begins. Do you think there should be more three-army fights? What armies would you like to see in a three-party battle?
