soaring through history

On January 6, 2019, a faction of former Templars High Command officers, Ripmam, Dagyr3, Snork, Phil, and Shinzo, dissatisfied with the Templars’ leadership, founded the Winged Hussars. The leaders initially named the army the Holy Army of Jerusalem, drawing inspiration from the historic Polish-Lithuanian cavalry. Three days later, they rebranded it the Winged Hussars.

Their early days were marked by the “Templar Exodus,” a conflict with the Templars that concluded with the Hussars achieving independence, thanks partly to alliances with the Elite Guardians and the New Viking Alliance. Their alliance with the EGCP would go on to be a notorious one, with the pair engaging in the “War of F-ing Around”

In their formative months, the Winged Hussars grew steadily, averaging sizes of 6-10 members per event, which was standard for Small-Medium armies at the time. They demonstrated their spirit by engaging in the fourth Club Penguin army map made for the CPPS known as Club Penguin Armies: The Game. They participated in battles against formidable opponents like the Rebel Penguin Federation and the Wild Ninjas.

Challenges and Resurgence

As 2019 progressed, the Winged Hussars faced declining activity, leading to their closure on November 22, 2019. However, the spirit of the Hussars remained. In October 2023, founder Shinzo returned to the community with their plans to establish a new army. After reconnecting with co-founder Ripmam, they decided to revive the Winged Hussars. This second generation, led by Ripmam, Shinzo, Lady Eden, and Shiden, began holding successful recruitment events on the CPPS, New Club Penguin, marking a new chapter in their history.

The Hussars were a dominant force throughout 2024. They participated in various tournaments and events, showcasing their commitment to the community. Notably, on October 27, 2024, they held a medal ceremony to reward members who participated in the Project Conquest tournament, reflecting their dedication to recognizing member contributions.

However, on December 10, 2024, Shinzo brought forth some terrible news. He announced the army would be going on an indefinite hiatus, due to a lack of activity from the Leaders and High Command. Shinzo acknowledged the hard work that had put into the army, to get it to such a high-standing position in the community, and thanked all of the Polish Knights for their hard work and dedication. Following the army’s closure, Shinzo was inducted as a Small/Medium Legend for his work over the past year, showing the army’s talent and great strength.

Anniversary celebrations

On January 4, 2025, the Winged Hussars announced plans for their highly anticipated 6th anniversary celebration. Scheduled for January 21, an event that honours their journey of independence, resilience, and community building over the past six years. Members, old and new, came together to celebrate the milestones and memories that define the Winged Hussars’ legacy.

Following their anniversary event Club Penguin Armies approached Winged Hussars Leader, Snork, to find out more.

Looking back on nearly 6 years of growth, what achievements do you feel stand out the most?

I think that our victory in Project Conquest: Blood Bowl stands out the most from our other achievements. I don’t think that many people believed in our chances when our S/M competitors included TCP and WV, as we had come just shy of winning in multiple past tournaments. We managed to get through attacks from multiple armies and really earned that trophy.

This is the 6th Independence Day for the Winged Hussars. How does this year’s celebration differ from past events?

It is incredibly important to us as we wouldn’t exist if the founders hadn’t dared to stand up against what was then one of the largest armies. This courage remains one of our core tenets.

What does independence mean today, and how do you plan to honour it moving forward?

This day is incredibly special as we haven’t gotten to really celebrate it in the past. Though we wish we could’ve celebrated it in past years, we are thrilled to have spent time with Hussars old and new now, as well as our beloved friends, who could all gather around and listen to our story. I hope that in 2026, no matter where the army stands, we can do it again just like this.

Is there anything else you would like to share regarding the celebration?

I am incredibly grateful to Shinzo (who made time to organise this despite his busy life), Ripmam, and Dagyr. The army would not exist without their efforts and they will always be treasured in the Winged Hussars.

The Hussars’ 6th anniversary highlights their flexibility and evolution in the Club Penguin army community. From their bold beginnings to recent successes, they continue to inspire through dedication and integration. But can they sustain this strength?
