Background

Firstly, the 2013 Army Legends announcement came on January 9, 2014. Annually, Club Penguin Army Central‘s Legends Committee elected certain people as Legends based on their success and influence on the community. Up until Club Penguin‘s closure in 2017, the committee inducted fifty or more leaders and other important figures as legends from 2006 until 2016. Additionally, the process led to the creation of two separate categories: Major Army Legend and Small/Medium Army Legend. Typically, the organization held a couple of inductions per year as a way to recognise more people. Some of these figures included Oagalthorp, Waterkid100, Elmikey, Vendetta, Eyes521, Kingfunks4, Owlcity209, and Sidie9.

2013 Legends Inductions

The year 2013 was no different with several figures chosen for such an honor. However, the community needed to vote first on who they believed deserved the title. Then, the committee of 19 people finally voted on who they felt met the standard for legend. The committee members included previous legends, CPAC staff, and two other people chosen for the committee. Firstly, the committee disregarded the community vote as no candidate reached more than 50 votes. On the other hand, 21 candidates received the chance to become legends. Some of the candidates consisted of DxdznBearboys10, Elmikey, Waterkid100, Albert417BuritodailyBluesockwa2, Ganger90, Vinny, Mustapha10, Cassius Brutus, and Ads354. Of these candidates, only Elmikey, Buritodaily, and Vinny became legends as they received enough votes from the committee. These results concluded the first legend voting of the year.

BACKGROUND

IW/DW vs. LT War

Declarations of War

By 2014, the Light Troops became a major party in wars against some of the most powerful armies. These included wars with Nachos, the Army of Club Penguin, and the Rebel Penguin Federation. Simultaneously, a new Black Alliance emerged which factored into several wars throughout the year. Likewise, the rivalry between LT and ACP culminated in another war not long after Waterkid101 retired from LT. LT’s raid of ACP’s Breeze precipitated the declaration. Soon after, Ice Warriors and Dark Warriors declared war on LT and Shadow Troops due to similar tensions. Additionally, IW had an established rivalry with LT from the time of the army’s creation. These two declarations created the opportunity for a larger war due to the involved parties’ numerous allies. However, Shadow Troops merged into LT; ending one of the conflicts. With the merger, the war turned into three armies against each other with ACP, IW, and DW against LT.

WAR INVASIONS & RESULTS

War Events – Raid of Ice Box & Invasions of Crunch & Thermal

The war started with ACP’s raid of LT’s Ice Box with 24 penguins. Next, ACP invaded LT’s Crunch to a no-show from the latter. LT declared the invasion invalid as they claimed ACP did not issue a 24-hour notice before the invasion. However, ACP alleged that there was proper notification in response. Despite these disagreements, the first official battle occurred on Thermal between LT, ACP, and IW. Both sides claimed victory as there was no clear winner.

War Battles – Invasions of Outback, Sleet, Ice Rink, Breeze, & Mammoth

Next, LT claimed victory with IW’s invasion of Outback. Similar events occurred during the alliance’s invasion of Sleet. Moreover, LT defended Ice Rink to no opposition. Finally, the month concluded with an LT invasion of Breeze and Mammoth.

December War Invasions

Firstly, the war continued with many invasions throughout December. Several of these invasions ended up as no-shows. However, there were still some interesting battles that took place. For example, LT defeated ACP on White House. Next, LT successfully invaded Breeze from ACP. LT achieved several victories before ACP surrendered the war by the end of the month. On the other hand, the war between LT and IW/DW continued regardless of the end of the ACP war.

Outbreak of War

While ACP and LT fought their war, tensions contributed to the Nachos’ declaration of war on the Water Vikings. Additionally, Nachos declared war on ACP and IW. Moreover, SWAT returned and quickly made enemies with IW. Consequently, IW declared war on SWAT soon after the latter’s re-opening. Another important revival in the Doritos led to the circumstances perfect for a major war. However, most of these conflicts ended up being short-lived. The most important of these was the ongoing LT and IW/DW war.

The war continued into the new year with several battles. Firstly, LT fought IW on Sub Zero with a size advantage of over 10 penguins. However, LT failed to match the two armies’ sizes in the invasion of Frosty where they logged off early. Finally, DW faced LT on Sleet with 35 penguins. However, there were still more battles for both armies as the conflict continued.

January 9, 2015 – ROAD TO END OF WAR

After over a month of fighting, LT fought DW on Ice Palace before the latter logged off. Soon after, DW declared the invasion invalid in response to the claim their previous invasion of Crunch was invalid. This battle continued the trend of no clear winner as both armies claimed victory in every battle. As such, the war turned into a stalemate. The war ended with DW’s ceasefire with Light Troops near the end of the month. Moreover, IW began a war against the Golds as LT fought against the newly returned Redemption Force. As such, the conflict finally ended after a significant amount of battles.

Conclusion

These events both had a dramatic influence on the community. The three armies involved in the war had the opportunity to show their battle prowess and leave an impact on the community. Their conflict caused ripple effects over the entire community with the outbreak of alliance wars in early 2015. Additionally, the legends inducted left a significant mark with the recognition of their accomplishments. The two events also showed how the community changed throughout the year. Ultimately, both events had a great influence on the community and future events. What do YOU think of the two events? Is there anyone else YOU thought deserved legend for 2014? What do YOU think of the current process to select legends?
