Olympics Explained

Every year, the Rebel Penguin Federation hosts its Winter Olympics with a new theme. This year’s event will be held from 5 to 12 January, with the theme of ‘Pokémon’. Since 2017, RPF has hosted a Winter and a Summer Olympics, consisting of a week of competitions on a Club Penguin Private Server. This year, members are divided into three teams. These teams work together to win medals and obtain prizes, with points being distributed based on whoever places first, second and third place in each minigame. This year’s rendition of the Winter Olympics will be held not only on Club Penguin Army Battleground but also on Club Penguin Journey.

As a part of the events, all RPF members are split into teams as mentioned before. These teams are led by members of the Rebel’s Leadership and High Command. Team Denki (the anglicisation of the Japanese word for electric), is led by Ella. Team Nemui (the anglicisation of the Japanese word for sleepy), is led by Link3000 and Moonlemur. Finally, we have Team Shinka (the anglicisation of the Japanese word for evolution). This team is led by Gabgeirl and LittySkitty. For participation in the events, RPF members can win special roles within the Rebel’s Discord, such as Rebel Olympian and Team MVP.

Earlier Events

The events are a longstanding tradition for the Rebels, as mentioned before. The first edition was held on a CPPS called Oasis. However, RPF is not the only army to introduce an Olympics-style event. In 2022, Ice Warriors held their Sub Zero Winter Olympics, similar to RPF. One key difference between these two events however is that the IW’s version was open to the whole community. Dating as far back as 2012, the Army of Club Penguin held Olympic events. In the ACP version, members were delegated to servers and only partook in the minigames they wanted to.

To learn more about the upcoming Olympic Events, Club Penguin Armies reached out to Rebel’s leader, Link3000 for an exclusive interview.

Why do you feel the Winter Olympics are important to your army?

I wouldn’t say it’s just the Winter Olympics but the Olympics in general is most likely the most highly anticipated event in RPF. I think it’s everyone’s favourite time of year, it’s the time I see the entire community come together and also people that are normally inactive, return to their ranks to participate. It’s a great way to strengthen our community, great way for everyone to engage with others and new people to be included in activities.

How do you feel this year will fare compared to previous years?

I think these Olympics are the biggest ones we’ll have in recent time, perhaps in the last couple years. Just from numbers alone, our team sizes are twice as big as they were during our Summer Olympics which is already quite promising. Not to mention that people really seem to be enjoying the theme so I think this will be a memorable Olympics fs.

What has led the Rebels to continue to host the Winter Olympics every year?

I think it’s the fact that people just cannot get tired of them lmao. From an organising point of view, it’s fun coming up with the themes each year and coming up with team names. The aspect of a theme alone I think gets people excited, especially if it’s a theme they’re interested in, it makes them more enthusiastic to participate. We have people asking or suggesting Olympic Themes throughout the year so it’s definitely something the community enjoys and until they stop doing that, we’ll keep hosting them.

In conclusion, it is clear that the Winter Olympics are a great wind down from Christmas Chaos for all RPF members. These events also ensure that the army community remember that this is all for fun, and CPA is not life or death. But what do you think? How will this year’s events compare to previous ones? Are you excited about their Olympics? Be sure to let us know your thoughts. We can be sure, however, that these events will bring great joy to the community.
