After a month of games, Special Weapons and Tactics have concluded their Olympics. Let us find out who came out victorious throughout this time.
On August 2, Special Weapons and Tactics introduced their 2024 Olympics. In a post, they explained plans to hold the event last year, squashed by the onset of war. Inspired by the recently concluded 2024 Paris Olympic Games, they decided now was the time to bring it back. Unlike the Olympic games we know, SWAT modeled theirs a bit differently. Dividing into two factions, the Antaeus Corporation and the Frontier Corporation, the agents fought to earn points for their respective teams in a series of games. The games selected weren’t all on Club Penguin, with games on other sites being integrated.
Also, SWAT is not the first army to hold an Olympic event this year. This summer, the Water Vikings emerged from their lockdown with their Olympic games, and the Rebel Penguin Federation kept up their long-standing tradition with a “High School Musical” themed Olympics. Even we have organized a community-wide Olympics in the past, to celebrate our anniversary in 2023.
After taking game suggestions, Fun X Time kicked things off on August 17 with the first stage of the Olympics. A representative from each side was paired in a series of games to battle for victory. The Antaeus Corporation got off to a rough start, with a quick forfeit leading to their score dipping into the negatives before they could gain a single point. Despite this, FBI VN regained a lead following his win in Sploop.io. Fun X Time earned Antaeus back-to-back wins, winning his game of Devast.io.
Following the conclusion of the first stage, they announced the final stage of the games on September 7. This gave Frontier an opportunity to bounce back from a 150-point loss. Fun X Time showed his skills off again, earning his team more points, this time in Sled Racing. Following the high-speed race was a game of intellect, as the final game of the Olympics was decided over a game of Chess. FBI VN defeated Mafuka in this match, preventing Frontier from winning one game during the event.
SWAT announced the results on September 11, declaring Antaeus as the winner of this year, having won four battles while Frontier won none. This left the final score at 550-200 in Antaeus’s favour. The following day, the army held a Closing Ceremony to congratulate the resilient troops who took part, maxing 15. This clearly marked the occasion as a success for the army.
Following these Olympic matches, Club Penguin Armies reached out to SWAT leader, Fun X Time, to discuss the event.
Many of the games played were not on Club Penguin. What is SWAT’s relationship with off-site gaming?
At SWAT, we firmly believe that gaming should be extended to more prominent and amusing games. One should understand that Club Penguin is not the only game in this world! Gaming is the heart of SWAT, and Club Penguin is not the only source from where we receive recruits. Our recruits have more interest in playing games from which they were recruited. The SWAT Olympics this year helped them fulfill this desire. Moreover, hosting the Olympics solely on Club Penguin would have been difficult, as there are few competitive minigames on the Island. We already have a lot of Club Penguin events with a well-organized schedule, and we feel that we require some time away from Club Penguin.
Did you accomplish everything you wanted to with this event?
Essentially, yes! We were able to fulfill our vision of the Olympics—to extend competition to other games. While some troops did forfeit from their games and some failed to show up, the Olympics was well received by our troops. There was a lot of rejuvenation caused due to the competition between the two factions—the Antaeus and the Frontiers. We successfully integrated a competitive spirit among the participants, ensuring that they retain their good sport.
Will you aim to recreate the games like this in the future, or do you have a different scope?
Certainly! This was not the last of SWAT that the community would see. We plan upcoming festivities, ceremonies, events, and tournaments for every month. The Olympics this year built the pillars of August and September. In September, we are also coming up with the Summer Awards. In October, the community will see more activity as we begin to uncover the upcoming SWAT Minecraft server, as well as key changes in the SWAT Corporation. In November, we anticipate the last monthly season—Season 12—released. Therefore, I can confidently say that SWAT will continue recreating such games and events. These events allow the SWAT Corporation to communicate with the troops, and the troops to interact with each other. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the participants for making the Olympics this year successful!
Clearly, the leadership has no shortage of plans for SWAT, and we look forward to seeing what they organize next. Will we see more activity in SWAT following their Olympic Games? Will we continue to see armies integrate non-Club Penguin activities?
