army journey

In 2013, Popcorny entered the Club Penguin army community and became a prominent leader within small-medium armies. Over the next four years, from 2013 to 2017, he made significant contributions by leading several key armies, including the Snow Ninjas, Dark Knights, and Thugs. Each of these armies experienced notable success under his leadership, thanks to Popcorny’s hard work and devotion to each of them.

During his tenure, these armies not only strengthened their power but also increased their activity. As a result, this dual approach played a crucial role in elevating their status within the community. Popcorny’s leadership left a lasting impact, cementing his reputation as a highly skilled and influential figure in the Club Penguin army scene.

ACHIEVEMENTS

DCP-SN WAR

One of the biggest armies at the time, the Doritos of Club Penguin, shockingly declared war on the Snow Ninjas on July 14, 2015. Leaders Zach and Popcorny, who had previously supported the Doritos, were stunned by this unexpected move. Despite the Doritos maxing at 50+ and the Snow Ninjas 20+, Popcorny, and the other leaders led their army with determination and fought heroically against the odds. The conflict ended in a draw, which was a significant achievement at that time.

GREEN MERCENARIES

Popcorny and Samsungw established the Green Mercenaries on September 27, 2013, and their inaugural event occurred on October 4, 2013.  The army faced challenges at its founding, including Samsungw’s departure and changes in leadership. Under new leaders Cubcola, Sonic, and Elita, GM’s size improved. Samsungw’s return led to a series of server invasions, increasing their army efficiency.  Despite a setback due to poor attendance and a near-collapse, GM rebounded with robust events, maxing sizes of 16+. They also fought a conflict with the Ice Hounds, concluding a peace treaty. GM faced leadership instability and ultimately merged into the Water Vikings on December 19, 2013. After several transitions and rebranding as the Green Marines, the army achieved notable success. Many viewed it as a continuation of the original Green Mercenaries.

DARK KNIGHTS ERA

Popcorny was the most important leader of the Dark Knights during a crucial time. Alongside Flame and Benimish, Popcorny led the army during its second notable generation, often reaching a high attendance of 12 members per event. This period was marked by strategic brilliance, with the army actively participating in battles and wars. However, Popcorny’s decision to bring in new leaders, combined with internal conflicts, led to Flame’s departure and a decline in activity. The Dark Knights officially shut down in July 2018, but the legacy of leaders like Popcorny remains a testament to the dynamic history of Club Penguin Armies.

MODERN-ERA

In addition to his many duties, Popcorny currently serves as a Head Judge with Club Penguin Army Judges. Furthermore, he has achieved legendary status in both well-established and lesser-known armies. Notably, Popcorny is recognized as a legend in both the Templars and Water Vikings. This recognition highlights his significant impact and contributions to these communities. His final battle leading was in the 2017 Legends Cup VIII between Thugs and Light Troops.

Club Penguin Armies contacted Popcorny to engage in a discussion about his most memorable moments.

In your opinion, what is the most important quality a troop must possess to be a successful leader in the Club Penguin army?

The most important skill is being able to motivate others. Motivating others to attend, motivating others to recruit, motivating others to leaders, motivating others to motivate. Without being able to do it you cannot generate success.

How has your involvement in the Club Penguin Army influenced your personal growth and perspective on leadership?

To motivate means you need to communicate, I learned that being able to communicate effectively is such an important life skill to have and I constantly look for ways to improve my communication skills whether they be passive or active to attain whatever I am setting out to do.

What do you consider your most memorable achievement or success during your time leading armies?

To say I was anything more than mediocre when I was leading is a fallacy. In terms of actual results leading to and getting to lead in the 2017 Legends Cup Final was definitely fun but ultimately the best outcome of my years leading was getting to co-lead with people from across the world, learn cultures, share life experiences and develop as a person whilst learning from others around me.

Looking back, what do you hope your legacy in the Club Penguin army community will be?

I don’t think I’ve achieved enough to have a proper legacy in the traditional sense of having a long lasting impact on things. My main thing I can say is that if I have had a positive impact on people’s livelihood no matter how big or small, being able to better someone is a great legacy to have.

What advice would you give to new leaders or aspiring leaders in the Club Penguin army community?

One of the best ways to motivate is financial motivation so if you want to be successful definitely consider this as a prime way of succeeding and utilise resources. Apart from that I would consider what is the ultimate outcome of this. I believe from personal experience the best thing to come out of the community for a lot of people can be the improvements of oneself. Regardless of what you achieve in the community, if you take lessons and come away a better person, you’ve achieved something far greater.

Popcorny’s strong leadership skills, unwavering loyalty, and inspirational impact on the Club Penguin army community truly set him apart. His contributions have left a lasting mark on the armies he led and the people he inspired. What do you think has been the most significant aspect of Popcorny’s leadership? How do you believe his legacy will continue to influence future leaders?
