The first round of the Legends Cup XIV concluded today, Sunday, 30 June. Throughout the weekend, eight armies battled it out to advance to the next round. As this tournament is double elimination, the four losing armies are not out yet. Day one saw the Rebel Penguin Federation take on the Templars and the Help Force battle the Army of Club Penguin. Day two witnessed the People’s Imperial Confederation butt heads with the Water Vikings but also saw the Elite Guardians fight the Special Weapons And Tactics. Remember that the armies who lost this weekend will battle it out next weekend, and the losers of those battles’ tournament run will end early.

Rebel Penguin Federation vs. Templars

The first battle of the tournament was hardly a close one. The Rebel stormed the Mines with Templars following soon after, with an 11 penguin advantage against the Knights. Throughout the room, the Rebel Penguin Federation dominated in nearly every aspect: speed, size, coverage and creativity. Ultimately, rooms two and three followed largely the same pattern. Templars’ size fluctuated greatly during this battle, meaning they sometimes had less than half of the Rebels’ troop count. Despite Templars’ best efforts, the Rebels won the battle 3-0 and will advance to the tournament’s next stage.

Winner – Rebel Penguin Federation

Help Force vs Army of Club Penguin

In the closest battle of the week, the Army of Club Penguin and Help Force brought their A-game. Heading into The Dock, the Help Force brought almost 50 soldiers compared to the ACP’s 38. The judges noted that the Help Force used its size advantage to cover the Clovers completely. The following rooms played almost the same way, with the Helpers covering the Clovers. Ultimately, the Helpers’ size continued to grow while the Clovers’ dimmed, and by the end of the battle, Help Force was +20 over the ACP. Because of their size advantage and covering, Help Force won all three rooms.

Winner – Help Force

Water Vikings vs. People’s Imperial Confederation

Despite the People’s Imperial Confederation entering rooms first, the Water Vikings held a consistent +10/15 size advantage over the Confederates. The Confederation put up a decent fight in terms of speed, but the Vikings across all three rooms had too big of a size advantage. Additionally, the Vikings were praised by judges for their creative formations. Due to these factors, the Water Vikings advanced with a 3-0 score.

Elite Guardians of Club Penguin vs. Special Weapons And Tactics

With the Elite Guardians riding high from their Around The World Cup victory, they wanted to own this matchup completely. Starting strong in The Dock, Elite Guardians reached sizes of 24, while SWAT only held 8. The Guardians seemed much more awake throughout the three rooms, with SWAT troops struggling. Interestingly, the Guardians’ size remained consistent, with the Agents falling between each room. The judges praised the Elite Guardians for their creative formations and faster pace. Due to their size advantage, speed and creativity, the Guardians won all three rooms.

After four exciting battles, the contestants for the next round are now decided. Due to the nature of this year’s tournament, the four losing armies will play against each other next weekend to determine who still has a shot at winning. Congratulations to this weekend’s winners, and best of luck to everybody next weekend. Will an army from the loser’s bracket win the tournament this year?
