A tournament favorite returns this Christmas Chaos, which involves YOU, the community, to predict who will win each battle. With nine armies participating in this year’s tournament can you make a perfect bracket?
How does it work?
Bracketology was first introduced to the penguin community by DMT, and follows the extremely popular March Madness bracket for men’s basketball in the NCAA tournament. However instead of predicting the final score in basketball community members will predict the outcome of each battle room in a win, loss, tie format (W-L-T). This bracket will start with the qualifying round and will go all the way to the grand finals where community members will predict the overall winner of the tournament. However, once you submit your bracket you may not change it so if you predict someone to win the finals and they get knocked out in the first round your bracket will not be successful so choose wisely! We suggest taking into account the armies’ seeding, top ten rankings, size in past months’ events, and how well armies show up for tournaments. The bracket system goes off a point system, the more accurate your predictions are the more points you will be awarded. The winner of the bracketology challenge will be the person with the most points at the end of the tournament.
The winner of course will receive a prize, in years past it has been a $10 gift card of some sort which can also be used for Discord nitro if you want instead, as well as an exclusive role in the CPA server.
Scoring
The scoring is the same system the Community Committee has used in past bracketology challenges all submissions must follow the win-loss-tie format for room predictions or they will not be counted. The points will be kept in a spreadsheet by Aubz and will be updated following the conclusion of that weekend’s battles. Please note that scoring will be updated within 24-48 hours of the battle finish time, so remember to practice patience.
- 1 point for correctly predicting the winner of a match.
- 3 points for correctly predicting the room score
- 4 points for correctly predicting the winner of an overtime match — please mark the battle as [OVERTIME] as well
- 2 additional points for correctly predicting the room score and the winner of an overtime match*
*To correctly predict an overtime match, you must get the room score right and the winner right. You will not receive any points for the match if the room score or the winner is wrong.
Here is an example of what a bracket submission should look like in the channel. Make sure you include all rounds in one message
Rules
- Community Members may only submit ONE entry so please make sure to triple-check your picks before submitting. If anyone is found submitting more than one entry all of their submissions will be disqualified.
- The deadline to submit your bracket is before the qualifying round on Saturday, December 2nd at 12pm EST. The submission channel will be closed after this deadline has passed.
- The submission channel is not meant for talking or discussing your brackets. If anyone is found talking in the channel besides submitting their bracket, they will be disqualified.
- You may edit your submission once you send it until the deadline to submit has passed. If for whatever reason there is an emergent need to submit a new bracket please contact Aubz to prevent your bracket from being disqualified.
The bracket challenge is now live! Enjoy, Have fun, and good luck to all participants!
