Community Reacts: March Madness Semi Finals

This week, we witnessed the Semi-Finals of March Madness. To gain further insight into the battles, we asked community members for their opinion.

March Madness began in 2013 when Club Penguin Armies Central (CPAC) hosted the first tournament, followed by three more editions through 2016. After Club Penguin and CPAC shut down, the event paused until the Club Penguin Army League revived it in 2020 during the private server era, though that edition ended in controversy and was resolved with “August Sadness.” Club Penguin Army Headquarters hosted the 2021 edition, and independent leaders ran it in 2022. Since then, Club Penguin Armies has organised every edition of MM. This year, the community participated, and when the Semi-Finals concluded, the results sparked mixed reactions, with many praising the performances of dominant armies while others debated the outcomes and upsets.

Water Vikings vs Rebel Penguin Federation

WV vs RPF- Casa Fiesta

RPF consistently defeated WV in the three-room combat. In Room 1 (Casa), RPF won 80-48 thanks to their size advantage and last-minute form control, even though WV entered first and used UV and BWB tactics. Despite WV deploying BWBs, RPF defeated WV 83-49 in Room 2 (Stadium) thanks to cohesive forms, powerful verticals, and coverage. WV struggled with visibility and defense in Room 3 (Cove), while RPF maintained consistency, speed, and completeness, winning 85-45.

Templars vs Army of Club Penguin

Templars vs ACP- Casa Fiesta

Over three rooms, ACP consistently defeated TCP. In Room 1, ACP won 94-39 after entering first, forming pyramids and anchors, maintaining middle control, and covering TCP’s moves. In Room 2, ACP used triangles, pluses, and a surround to fully cover TCP, complete tactics faster, and maintain a side advantage, winning 96-42. In Room 3, ACP utilized pyramids, surrounds, and arrows to dominate size, speed, and formation completion, while TCP relied on AFKs and incomplete forms to win 96–41. Overall, ACP provided superior coverage, cleaner and faster formations, and constant dominance throughout all rooms.

Club Penguin Armies reached out to various members of the community to hear their opinions.

Jo, HF Leader: This one also went as expected, although WV did max a lot more than I thought they would. I knew that RPF would make it to the finals, but it’ll be interesting to see if ACP can match their size.  The battle went as I expected. ACP maxed a lot more than TCP in the quarter finals, so it makes sense for them to win. ACP is doing very well in this tournament.

CoolGuy, DW Leader: One fact that did shock me and it wasn’t to do with the results or the battle itself really. It was to do with the max of RPF. I understand that RPF generally goes all out for the “final showdown” battles of a tournament which generally are in the finals and, this is not to discredit RPF but 87 from RPF in a big battle seemed concerning. 87 is a huge number and we’ve seen similar in the past where RPF reserve their full strength for the finals but, even though this was bigger than their max for the Christmas Chaos Semi-Finals, something felt off to me. I can’t quite explain it but time will soon tell if the Rebels are about to make the biggest slip up in long time or if they will go above and beyond, perhaps breaking the max record for the year.

Honestly, I don’t think anything from this weekends events surprised me. The battle results were clear from the get go, in my opinion. While there were four extremely credible armies, there was always only going to be two winners. Given the track record and their constant fight to be number one, RPF and ACP were always going to prevail.

Queen Kay, ACP Staff:  In terms of WV vs RPF, I am sure both put on an amazing performance in the battle. Both armies have very strong members. After reading the report they both did great it seems! Congrats to RPF for making it to the finals and I look forward to seeing them on the battlefield!

For ACP vs TCP, I was so impressed by TCP and especially by their creative tactics. It was one of the first battles where I actually had a lot of fun. Huge respect for a great battle to TCP. And I’m so proud of my own ACP team. MAXING 100?!?! Our efforts are paying off and I’m so excited to see what we bring to the FINALS! Let’s win this thing and bring home the gold!!

Elsa, TCP HCOM: WV and RPF… oh boy. What do I have to say. I don’t really care at this point. But I wanted to have WV get more size before the tournament but that didn’t work… well good job to RPF The battle between ACP and TCP was pretty fun! I enjoyed that! Even though ACP won fair and square with a big old size difference! GG ACP!

Yano, Romans 4ic: I knew RPF is going to win against WV due to them being bigger and faster with tactics. Also RPF having bigger maxes and WV struggling a bit at the moment. With ACP and TCP, I was a bit surprised when ACP won. Cuz genuinely I thought TCP is gonna win due to being “bigger” but I guess I was wrong.

According to the community, many members predicted these results. As we approach the finals, who do you think will win? Will there be any controversies in the final? There is a risk that a new army will make a stunning breakthrough, upending the traditional dominance and bringing an unexpected twist to the final battle. Who will rise to the occasion this time? Can the armies adapt under such intense pressure and tenacity?
