Overview
As the March Madness XI tournament approaches, the Aliens and the Templars of Club Penguin participated in an exciting practice battle this past weekend. Although it was just for fun, this battle between Aliens and TCP was important for both armies, as it gave them training ahead of the upcoming tournament, allowing them to practice formations, tactics, and speed.
Room 1 – ALIENS
Aliens entered the room first as TCP quickly formed an upside-down T form while Aliens set up in an underlined plus. Both sides traded coverage in the chat bar, but TCP eventually took control of the vertical, holding a 28–24 size advantage. TCP waterfall while Aliens defended well, then TCP shifted into a backwards L form as Aliens made an upside-down V that shifted into a triangle. As the battle continued and sizes evened out at 24–24, the Aliens began covering more consistently at the chatbar while TCP struggled with AFKs. In the closing minutes of the room, the Aliens waterfalled and formed a square W, while TCP countered with a staircase (/ bomb) and later formed a upside down Y, with Aliens finishing stronger overall, giving them the room win.

Room 2 – TIE
TCP entered first and formed a plus, while Aliens formed a creative U + U formation that made them look bigger. Although Aliens had a few AFKs in the middle, their overall structure held up well. TCP’s plus provided them solid coverage, giving them a narrow lead as sizes were now 25–23 TCP. Both armies then bombed with TCP forming a Y and later a neat T form, while Aliens made a neat V, having very nice completion. Sizes later stood at 25–21 in TCP’s favor. Aliens towards the end of the room formed an X, though it had a few gaps. Overall, both armies had strong moments and maintained steady pressure, but neither managed to secure a decisive advantage. The room was ultimately declared a tie due to this reason.

Room 3 – TEMPLARS
Aliens entered first by forming a UV with a vertical line, while TCP made a normal UV. Despite having the size advantage, TCP’s form was slightly bunched. Both armies performed well at the beginning of the room. Aliens then bombed early, shifting into a plus that they struggled to execute properly, which additionally had a chatbar that was very gappy. TCP then whirlpooled. Sizes at this point were 24–22 in favor of TCP. While TCP was slightly bunched and not spread out, the Aliens were way too spread out, though both formations still managed decent coverage. Aliens later formed a triangle with a vertical that again made them appear to be small, while TCP raked into a V form. Overall, throughout the room, the Aliens struggled in their form quality and overall performance in this room, allowing TCP to win Room 3.

OT ROOM – ALIENS
TCP entered the room first and quickly formed an X, while the Aliens made an underlined V, which covered TCP’s X. Sizes were very close, with TCP being 24-23 in favor of TCP. The Templars whirlpooled, making an L as Aliens raked the room, with TCP defending against it fairly well. Aliens then formed into a Z, but their chatbar was small and was significantly covered by TCP. Both armies bombed, but TCP’s movement struggled with follow-through, as it suffered from AFKs. Aliens formed a U, and while TCP created a very bunched Z that made them appear smaller. Recognizing this, TCP shifted into an angle formation. However, Aliens whirlpooled effectively, exposing large gaps in TCP’s chatbar. The room remained competitive until the final few minutes, when TCP began to struggle. Unable to recover their momentum in time, they were outperformed by the Aliens, allowing them to secure the overtime win.

Both armies performed their best throughout this battle ahead of the announcement of the upcoming March Madness tournament. Although Aliens won the room 2-1-1 and both sides received good training for the tournament, which may prove to do them well as the clock ticks to the first battle. Which army do you think will make the biggest impact in the March Madness?
