NewCP Launches HTML5 Version

New Club Penguin has sent shockwaves among the CPPS community by ditching their Flash client. They migrated to HTML5, following a recent trend among CPPSes, but unfortunately, it includes a reset of progress in game.

BEGINNING of New Club Penguin

Jonas, a former Club Penguin Online Head Designer and Co-Owner, founded New Club Penguin alongside Sahij. NewCP focused on the latest era of Club Penguin (2013-2017), with all graphics in AS3. The game opened to the community on July 8th, 2020, with the commencement of the Beta Party. The game was heavily overloaded with features, beating its rivals in the development of Card-Jitsu Snow, featuring custom-designed parties (ex; Festival of Ninjas, Summer Party, Olympus Party), puffles (ex; Silver Puffle, Reindeer Puffle), minigames (ex; Lava Jump, Water Rush), and rooms (ex; Underwater Kingdom, Cloud Forest) alongside repolished existing rooms to keep its community engaged.

Created soon after the closure of the massive former CPPS, Club Penguin Online, the game received an initial response as a reliable successor. However, it only saw a massive spike in its member count following the closure of Club Penguin Rewritten. In recent years, the administration of the game was handled by Jonas and Charles. They were aided by an elite group of developers, including iContinux, iRod, and Bale, among others.

Following the end of Flash support in 2020, the administration decided to continue the game via a downloadable Flash client, alongside continuing the migration to HTML5. Testing for HTML5 began as early as June 2021, but the admins scrapped it for unknown reasons.

The game failed to capture the attention of major armies due to reliability and trustworthiness issues, despite some popularity. For example, many armies disliked the need to download a game client to play, because some recruits and members need to log in on mobile devices at times. However, over the years, a few armies tried to be a hybrid between NewCP and Club Penguin Army Battleground. This includes the ex-S/M powerhouse Lime Green Army, who tried possibilities within the game in mid-2022. Other notable users were the People’s Imperial Confederation, which tried to use it in 2023, and Doritos of Club Penguin.

A major controversy occurred at the end of 2024 when DCP collaborated with the NewCP Administration to host a joint meetup. This collaboration included items and stamps as part of a promise to attendees. The Top Ten Committee eventually ruled the event void because the collaboration gave the Doritos an unfair advantage.

HTML5 Version

After preparations for the migration resumed in late 2025, Charles officially announced the sunset of the Flash version and the introduction of the HTML browser version on February 6, 2026.

The game’s community strongly disapproved of this move because it involved a complete game reset that forced players to lose most of the progress they had made over time. Replying to the general discontent, Charles mentioned in the game’s Discord server:

I know many of you are not happy. However, it is very taxing to keep running a flash game with no users. We were originally gonna start fresh but we decided to bring over 25% of the coins and 5 items as a compromise. I know many of you will not agree with this decision and we sincerely apologise. However, even during events we would barely have enough users to keep it going and it has been really demotivating for the entire team to the point where we were thinking of closing the game. Most active users who would still play faced lag issues and they started leaving. I understand how everyone is upset over losing their progress. In reality, it is basically as a new project under a new structure and new development team. This is a fresh start. If you continue to be with us on this new journey, we would love for you to see what we have in store for you.

It was about how many updates we can do and how much content we can deliver as we also have to deliver Card Jitsu Snow, Fire, Water, Shadow & Puffles. Since these features don’t currently work. We apologise but this was the best way to keep giving content and also making sure we are also able to deliver on the missing features. We had to do a complete wipe, however the bare minimum that we are doing is only as a means of compensation for the old users. It is not a port over in any way, and in no way is it a “settle for that” its more of a “small thank you for your support in the flash era”. Unfortunately all the old users and people losing their progress, never returned when the game was dying and maybe things would have been different if we had been able to support both flash and HTML5 at the same time if we had activity. However, at this situation its not feasible anymore. We have gotten a max of 10 people logging in daily for a few months, except the first few days of a party release. Our budget and motivation ran dry. This is unfortunately the best way to move forward which we understand that some people can’t accept. So, I wanna say thank you to anyone who has been through the journey and decides to leave

-Charles, New Club Penguin Administrator

The administrators discontinued the Flash version of the game on February 8th at 11 am EST, with no specific event held to mark the occasion. However, a large unofficial gathering of many penguins took place to bid farewell.

LAUNCH

The HTML5 version of the game officially opened to all on February 14th, 2026. A party hat was available on the island to celebrate the occasion.

Announcement of the 10KPENGUINS unlock code

Players can transfer 25% of the coins they earned previously and 6 items of their choice from their inventory using the Unlock Items section. It was clarified that this is possible at any time and isn’t an immediate worry. The game officially reached 10k registered users since its return on February 18, and the administrators released a code to honour the same.

FUTURE

With NewCP’s transition to HTML5, the general concern raised by the downloadable client is diminished. As such, it offers another viable alternative for armies. However, with armies usually making unpredictable decisions, it would be too early to say anything at present. Currently, the only army that has been visibly trying out the HTML5 version of NewCP is the Aliens. So far, they seem to be using it alongside Club Penguin Journey and CPAB, with a Card Jitsu tournament and a Stamp Mission.

Do you expect some activity from armies within NewCP? How do you think this transition will play out for NewCP?
