A THANKLESS JOB
The Templars of Club Penguin are a name many know very well. Founded in April of 2018 by Xing, the army has reached great heights that some can only dream of. From achieving Major army status to multiple tournament wins, the Templars are an army to always take seriously. Their most recent tournament victory at the Around The World Cup II Grand Finals showcased their talents tremendously, while also displaying their relentless championship mentality. With an obviously passionate and experienced staff and leadership team, one can learn a lot from their operations.

The Templars at the ATWC II Grand Finals
At the backbone of it all, a prominent figure has been there to guide and support the army through everything. With a vast set of skills and army intuition, there couldn’t be anyone more fit to be TCP’s official advisor than Kyle. Throughout his time at TCP, Kyle has undeniably shown time and time again that he has what it takes to get stuff done. Showing a great attention to detail, there isn’t a challenge Kyle couldn’t navigate for the Templars. Through his professionalism and continued commitment, he has been one of the many vital pieces in the Templars’ success.
Holding an advisor position in an army can be extremely daunting. Facing much scrutiny in the role, any error in the logistics of the army will eventually be traced back to them. With such high expectations behind the scenes, they must place more concentration on the work that goes unseen. It takes a great amount of responsibility, and Kyle is no stranger to this. Additionally, with a prestigious army like the Templars, Kyle must always be on top of his game.
INTERVIEW
In an effort to gain more knowledge about his advisor position and his day-to-day workings, Club Penguin Armies reached out to Kyle for an exclusive interview.
How did you first get into Club Penguin Armies? What has the journey been like so far?
I joined November 2019 officially into the Pirates and was sporadically active across there and their allies but I properly got active in March 2020 when COVID hit yaknow. It’s been a whirlwind since joining but I’ve enjoyed it and don’t necessarily regret anything. I’ve made friends, lost friends, pissed people off, gotten banned from places and held some pretty high ranks in armies. Smashed some records in armies, gained a ton of skills that I use to help armies still to this day. A lot of things I learned across the years still work in CPA in 2025 so it’s all worked out really
Do you have any current goals/ambitions in the army community?
current ambitions? not really. While it can seem like I take this too seriously, it’s all just a hobby I enjoy doing. My time has freed up a lot now that I’m abroad for the year so I’ve been able to help around a lot more leading to me being in the community a lot more often than usual. While I don’t have ambitions really since I’m not interested in rejoining an army’s ranks properly, I have gotten into the media aspect of things in the community. With my degree being in media and English being my strong spot, I got back into website work and actually joining media ranks across leagues and organizations.
In terms of templars ambitions for myself, you could probably say simply like just bringing it back to where it has been before. When we first made the decision to do a push on Club Penguin Journey, I was getting the website active with posts to just attract new people — guide, catalog secrets and pin trackers — the typical stuff you’d see on other websites. I always say one main thing to people — take inspiration from others and make it into your idea but better. People may frown on it but we’re all in the same game, if someone comes up with a good idea, then, why not use it? While there’s been well known issues across the army lately between the ranks and disputes, I can’t not say things and refuse to credit those who did make my initial ideas better. While we’ve had our disputes, all three of Sidie, Sha and Xing have helped a lot lately with boosting the ideas. With a new look across the website thanks to the two girls, it’s allowed for a lot more activity across the site. The initial ambitions of using CPJ as a way to boost sizes and activity across the server has been 100x better than any of us imagined at first.
I never really have ambitions or goals I want to achieve in Templars. An idea just comes to me and I think it out to see how it could work. Even when it comes to recruitment, we wanted to do a recruiting tourney but different from the usual “whoever recruits the most wins” so, one day in work I randomly had a thought of using the scoring system of GAA football (Irish sport for those confused) whereby you’re not just working to get the most recruits because they give you the lowest points but also things like registering troops, training the troops and getting them to attend events give higher points (if anyone wants the idea I’ll happily share it with you). While ambitions are good, I feel you can have all these ambitions but never get to do them or only half do them. Meanwhile, if you map out ideas fully and then propose it, I feel it works a lot better that way
When you first joined TCP as an advisor, were you impressed or even displeased with anything?
it was a bit of both you could say. Xing and I were somewhat friends through armies across the years and I was previously an advisor in TCP way back in covid but I never cared enough to help or speak so just pulled an Irish goodbye and dipped. The situation the guys were in was that it was decent but they could use help. Moon, Echo and Billy all had things happening across their lives and genuinely just struggled to manage it all at times and I was asked if I was interested in joining so I was like why not? I can’t say I was more impressed than displeased and vice versa as they were in a good situation, just needing more help. Naturally though, different things occurred across the rest of the year that meant the army was in a slight decline but we always made the best decisions for the army as much as we could
Right now, where do you think the Templars stand within CPA? Do you believe you guys are on track for any internal TCP goals?
right now, the army is probably at a crossroads. It could simply go any way and something could happen tomorrow that changes the way things are going. For now, I’d say the army is placed correctly amongst the community. People still moan about us but they also give praise when necessary or when they see progress. The army is slowly returning to major status and hopes to achieve it fairly soon. In terms of internal goals, Major was the main goal really for it all and I think with the way things are going, that, this will be achieved.
I’d say another key thing is just making sure the community you’re building is real and ensuring that they’re not just here to play CPJourney or here for the guides yaknow? You want to make sure you’ve got every corner covered. So, if you’re gonna build your army up with many different ways like CPPS related elements, you have to make sure it translates over to when you really need them — your battles, your tournaments, your wars. If you can’t translate it over, it’s just a waste of time. So again, time will tell if that goal is achieved. I have a strong belief that it will but you will only know once it happens
Lastly, do you have any advice you’d like to give to any aspiring troops or leaders?
the easiest way to put this is: don’t be a suck up, don’t be a lapdog. You need to push yourself out there. I may not have had much experience when it comes to leading but the experience I have is that of a leader and more in some cases. You need to be your own person and not rely on others to tell you what to do, or second guess yourself.
It’s important to be aware of your position. Be open to new ideas! Your advisors only want the best for you but they’re of course going to step in and overstep if they have to. What may seem aggressive to you, is just strong feedback and criticism to us. There will be times where you don’t see eye to eye. It’s important to keep things amicable between everyone. Regardless of any issues people may have, it’s better to keep it between yourselves and then focus on what’s best for the army. If an issue arises, work to squash it as best you can.
Dont rush into things !! If you’re not confident in things, don’t feel like you need to take the next step yet! Slow and steady wins the race 90% of the time. Your best friend could join with you and rush up through the ranks while you’re going 2x slower. You’ll probs learn a lot more by taking your time and just taking it all in rather than speeding through the ranks. People value your contribution more than how fast you can rank up. If someone sees potential, they’ll always be keeping an eye on the situation.
Most importantly, just have fun! Enjoy what you do and do what you enjoy!! This is just a virtual game, you’re playing with people you’ll likely never meet or only meet 1% of those you meet in your lifetime. Don’t be afraid to go somewhere you feel more comfortable. Don’t treat this as more than a fun hobby that you do in your spare time. Don’t let it affect what you do in life and the relationships you’ve built in life. It’s important to put yourself first even if it means your army doesn’t do as well for a period of time 🙂
With a key impact on TCP’s performances, Kyle has been an instrumental figure for the Templars. Backed by seasoned experience and a natural intuition for armies, the Templars certainly have a great advisor behind them. With his presence, you can surely bet the Templars will always stay prepared. Do you have anything you’d like to ask Kyle? Where do you think the Templars will be six months from now?
