Legacy Through Guidance

Pjayo, a long-standing member of the Club Penguin armies community, has been a vital part of the Water Vikings and several other influential armies throughout the years. His career began in 2013 with the Army of Club Penguin before moving to Doritos later that same year. Though he rose quickly, his time there ended abruptly, leading him to the Dark Warriors, where he served as 2ic until the fallout of the DW civil war in early 2014. Not long after, he was recruited into the WV as 3ic, and by mid-2014, he had been promoted to leader.

As a leader, he oversaw major wars with the Special Weapons and Tactics and the Nachos, battles that cemented WV’s strength in a competitive era. After stepping down in 2015, he stayed on as an advisor until a temporary departure from the community.

In 2020, Pjayo returned by reviving the Shadow Troops, later merging them with the Warlords of Kosmos to form the Golden Guardians. Around the same time, Viking veterans began to resurface. Working with fellow High Council members Bryce, Zakster, and Jedpen, he reopened WV for the first time in the CPPS era. Though retiring before November 2020, Pjayo briefly shadow-led in 2022 before moving into his role as advisor and guardian on WV’s High Council. He has since upheld the army’s constitution and traditions, reflecting his loyalty and dedication to the community. In leadership, he guided WV to key victories, including wars against the Templars and later SWAT. The latter, remembered as the Eagre Foray, became a defining triumph in WV’s modern history.

Timeless Wisdom

Though officially retiring just before November 2020, Pjayo briefly shadow-led in 2022 before transitioning into his current role as advisor and guardian on the High Council of Vikings. Since then, he has ensured WV’s constitution, traditions, and standards are upheld, reflecting both his loyalty to the Water Vikings and his long-standing dedication to the army community’s growth and stability.

Club Penguin Armies obtained an exclusive interview with Pjayo to learn more about his perspective as an advisor.

What is your role as an advisor to the Water Vikings today?

My role is that of a member of the High Council of Vikings – basically our guardian panel. Beyond usual advisory responsibilities, like providing guidance for HCOM and leaders, helping with events, and laying out framework for war and other big events, I ensure that WV’s constitution is upheld, I deal with any ToS violations, shutting down and likewise reopening the army, ensuring transfer of power between leaders, removing a leader if the situation calls for it, appointing hall of fame entries and other internal affairs like that.

What advice would you give to the next generation of leaders in WV or elsewhere?

My advice is really just to have fun with it. If you aren’t having fun with this, if you don’t derive joy from what you’re doing, then you’re approaching armies all wrong. Obviously that involves competition, for the top ten, in wars, and for tournaments, but at the end of the day you need to find fighting for that top spot and fighting those battles enjoyable. If you’re content just spamming “takeover” events and letting your standards slip, I can assure you WV isn’t the army for you, and I’d like to believe that this community isn’t really for you either. But if you have the drive, the hunger, to constantly push you and your army to it’s limits and drag it to the top – then keep at it.

From a more practical perspective, my immediate advice is don’t carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. You have an advisory team and high command for a reason. Listen to them!

How do you view the current army landscape compared to when you led?

Very, very different. When I first got to lead WV in 2014, armies were much more openly combative – Wars were constant, CPAC’s comments section was a flurry of debate and shit-flinging, and the Xat chats were filled with people who were all hungry for the top. That’s not really the case anymore. I can at least attest to that sort of hunger being within WV, but if you look in CPA it just doesn’t feel like people are into the chase nowadays. There are some positives though. I like not being under threat of doxing and everyone seems more personable. But I do long for the days where I’d get home from school and just starting trouble in WV’s Xat room or in the CPAC comments. Armies need that competition to come back desperately. There are definitely people who are trying to bring it back, but a lot of them seemingly miss the mark or mess up along the way. It’ll happen eventually though, I’m sure.

What advice do you have for other advisors?

You see a lot of advisors that don’t actually do anything; they don’t take part in decision making, or provide any advice. They just use their veteran status to flaunt and that’s a waste. If you really like the army you’re representing, you have to be on the ground making sure they’re doing the best they can. Retirement isn’t retirement, it’s the next phase in your long involvement with armies.

As the community continues to evolve, Pjayo encourages new leaders to focus on the long-term health and growth of their armies. Will future generations of leaders heed Pjayo’s advice and rebuild the competitive spirit that once defined the community? Will the army landscape continue to evolve into something more relaxed?
