CHAPTER 1: Voices at Dusk
It was the middle of winter, and the Snow Forts had never felt colder. The clouds sat heavy over the island, turning the sky to ash. The snow covered the Snow Forts too perfectly—too clean, too quiet, as if the place had shut down and forgotten how to wake up.
Silas awoke from his slumber slowly. He sat by the window inside his igloo, staring out at the snow-covered landscape. His eyes drifted over the walls, lined with trophies and certificates he had earned over the years: “Founder of the Arctic Guardians,” “First Place in March Madness,” and “Second Commander of the Penguin Syndicate.”
Despite the familiar sight, something else caught his attention—a notification on his Club Penguin Armies-issued phone. Without delay, he picked it up, the screen glowing with an urgent message:
“ATTENTION: DISTURBANCE DETECTED IN THE SNOW FORTS. EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY.”
The words seemed almost too sharp, too direct. A cold shiver ran down Silas’ spine, and a sense of unease settled in his gut. Without hesitation, he then stood up and grabbed his coat. His fingers hovered over the phone as he dialed the number of someone he trusted above all others: Rhea, a senior administrator at the High Command of the Club Penguin Armies Administration.
The line crackled once, then connected.
“Silas?” Rhea’s voice was clipped, extremely professional, but there was something that Silas couldn’t put together behind it. Worry.
“I got the alert,” Silas said. “What’s going on at the Forts?”
There was a deep pause.
“We’re not sure yet. Surveillance went dark ten minutes ago. All we saw before the feed cut was… movement. Fast, but indistinct. Nothing on the radar. No rogue factions have claimed responsibility.”
Silas frowned. “That doesn’t make sense. Nothing gets past the radar.”
“I know. That’s why you need to go. You’re closest.”
Silas glanced once more at the empty white world outside his igloo. A familiar battlefield, now silent. “Understood. I’ll check in once I arrive.”
“And Silas, please be careful. We can’t afford to lose another commander.”
The call ended, and Silas slipped the phone into his pocket. With a final glance at his trophies, frozen relics of past victories, he stepped outside.
The cold bit at his beak immediately. But there was something else in the air. Something sinister.
What are your thoughts on the first chapter of Terror at the Snow Forts? What do you think will happen to Silas in the next chapter? Will he discover something life-changing?
