In Overworked And Underpaid, we aim to interview designers, learn more about them, and have them share their journey and design advice. In this edition, we sat down with Rye Bread and get to know how and when they became a graphic designer.

Rye Bread always had an interest in traditional art while growing up, often drawing in her spare time. However, her journey into graphic design did not begin until she joined the Special Weapons and Tactics. Starting with simple banners for the server, Rye Bread quickly realized the need for high-quality graphics in the army community.
As she became more involved, her skills expanded, particularly when she created designs for Penguins of Madagascar, where graphics were needed for the army. Looking back, Rye Bread acknowledges her early work with humor while also recognizing how much she has improved since then.
Later, Rye Bread joined the Water Vikings and applied for the graphic design team, thus further honing her craft. Over time, she produced a variety of designs, including banners, thumbnails and even other fun drawings for the Water Vikings. The first ever thumbnail that she made for Club Penguin Armies was a graphic marking Aisha’s induction as a Secret Service leader, a piece that represents the beginning of her CPA design journey.

A QUICK CHAT WITH RYE BREAD
Club Penguin Armies approached Rye Bread for a quick interview about their time as a designer.
What was the biggest challenge you faced when learning graphic design, and how did you overcome it?
Getting the lines straight 😭 I usually did traditional art so I tried doing it that way at the start, only using the brush tool and not using layers or recolor but eventually I got there, still learning tho
Is there a specific design or project you’re most proud of? If so, what makes it special to you?
Hyper?
