In our first edition of “When the Servers Froze”, posted in December last year, we looked at some of the largest battles ever from the modern-day era of Club Penguin Armies. This second publication, however, will look at a range of battles from as far back as 2009, where the stakes were high, and history was written in real-time.
Decades End Tournament — 2009
The Decades End Tournament of 2009 was an epic battle involving the Army of Club Penguin, Ice Warriors, and the Nachos, all competing for supremacy. Due to the massive scale of the battle, ACP defended three rooms while IW and the Nachos held other key areas. ACP’s leadership, led by Boomer 20, ensured their dominance. They successfully defended the Snow Forts, Plaza, and Forest, even pushing into the Cove and Dock to overwhelm the opposition.
The battle reached unprecedented sizes, with ACP peaking at over 150 troops across multiple rooms. The server maxed out with over 225 total troops, pushing both Club Penguin and chat platforms to their limits. Despite challenges, ACP controlled the battlefield for 1 hour 30 minutes, securing their second consecutive Christmas tournament win.
Although the Nachos and IW fought valiantly, ACP emerged victorious, solidifying their place in history. The battle, often forgotten despite its scale, remains one of the greatest moments in Club Penguin Army history.
In the aftermath, Boomer 20’s leadership was celebrated as he retired, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable moments. The Decades End Tournament, with its record-breaking turnout of over 225 participants, remains iconic. Despite its size, it is often overlooked as one of the best battles ever fought, though overshadowed by time. This significant battle symbolizes the passion and dedication that defined an entire era of army warfare.

Legends Cup IV final — 2013
The Legends Cup IV final brought together three powerhouse armies — the Rebel Penguin Federation, Nachos, and Doritos — in one of the most anticipated battles of Club Penguin Army history. RPF peaked at 50–60 troops, Nachos led with 65+, and DCP fielded 55+, though their numbers were partially bolstered by raiders from the notorious Purple Republic.
The battle began at the Inside Mine, where RPF and the Nachos clashed in a fierce and evenly matched contest, while DCP struggled to make a significant impact early on. Judges initially favored the Nachos for their size and consistent tactics. As the battle progressed, RPF’s speed and coordination proved decisive as they overwhelmed DCP at the Stadium and forced them to retreat to the Cove, where they briefly encountered the Nachos. Despite the opposition’s best efforts, RPF solidified its control in the final stages.
After 40 minutes of intense competition, the judges declared RPF the champions in a 5-2-0 verdict, with the Nachos placing second followed by DCP in third place. While the battle cemented RPF’s return to dominance, it also escalated tensions between RPF and the Nachos, sparking a war that would define the post-tournament landscape.

Christmas Chaos Final — 2013
The Christmas Chaos III final in 2013 brought the Rebel Penguin Federation and Dark Warriors head-to-head for a historical showdown. RPF aimed to secure their second major tournament title of the year after winning Legends Cup IV. On the other hand, DW hoped to defend their Christmas Chaos crown. The battle lived up to its hype, with both armies showcasing impressive sizes and tactics.

March Madness final — 2020
The March Madness semi-final in 2020 was more than just a tournament match; it was a high-stakes battle amidst a tense rivalry between the Doritos and Ice Warriors. Both armies had been revitalized after Club Penguin’s closure in 2017. By late 2019, they re-established themselves in the Club Penguin Online Army League. By 2020, they were two of the league’s most dominant forces. This semi-final came after a January war, where DCP and IW, had fought fiercely with no clear winner.
The semi-final saw both armies fielding 150+ penguins, pushing the servers to their limits. Fast room changes and advanced tactics highlighted the fierce competitive spirit of the CPPS era. IW eventually secured the victory through superior organization, though the battle remained controversial.
The March Madness semi-final showcased the resurgence of Club Penguin Armies. It also marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing conflict between DCP and IW. The fallout continued into April 2020, when DCP declared war on IW, sparking even more iconic battles. Despite the controversy, this semi-final remains one of the most memorable in modern army history.
