What’s Happening In The Army Board

Over the last couple of weeks, there have been meetings with the Army Board regarding changes within the league’s map. With the introduction of new servers and innovative map concepts, we are creating fresh opportunities to refine and elevate the map’s design and functionality.

The Army Board column was created by former Chief Executive Producer, Mchappy. This was designed to maintain transparency throughout the entire army community regarding what is occurring behind the scenes. Now that we have all entered the new year, the Administration, Club Penguin Army Judges and the Army Board have gathered together to strategize new ways to enhance the map and its activity.

Map Background

The current Server Map was introduced on May 5, 2024, after many deliberations between the Army Board and the previous Administration. Created by Df44, the map consists of 250 servers, posing itself as an attractive opportunity for armies to highlight their skills and generate competition and wars between them. Initially, 90 servers – called the “legacy” servers – were released, with a capital server draft taking place.

The map in its initial weeks

Naturally, after the map’s launch, armies went all out on each other for months. Throughout the past year, the community was able to witness countless wars – some of them certainly unforgettable, such as the Centenary Solstice War, arguably the longest war in terms of amount of battles in army history, the Autumn Tundra War, and the War of Vengeance

Furthermore, the map also served as a home for the remarkable Project Conquest: Blood Bowl, which saw many armies showcasing their strategic prowess and stamina. Aiming to conquer a whole new continent in the map, Major and Small/Medium armies bravely fought in during October, marking yet another successful and fun tournament held by Club Penguin Armies.

THE CURRENT LANDSCAPE

Without a doubt, the army community embraced the Server Map and made it a success last year. Thanks to that, 2024 saw the revival of warfare and rivalry, as well as overall competitiveness. Nonetheless, as it usually happens with all Server Maps, stagnation came up as the Army of Club Penguin, Help Force, and Rebel Penguin Federation managed to grab the most pieces of land available – with only 7 servers being dropped as free land because of the Winged Hussars long hiatus.

An up-to-date image of the map

Thus, as the new year started, the current Administration promptly scheduled several rounds of meetings with the Army Board, alongside CPAJ Head Judges to debate some changes to the map dynamic. Over the course of the first weeks of 2025, the Board saw huge activity, as Representatives expressed their thoughts and wishes and came up with new concepts and ideas. After much deliberation, the Army Board voted for the concepts they would like to see in place on the map: Territory Tiers, and the Wilderness Zones.

Voting regarding map changes

TERRITORY TIERS

Each land will have a unique number representing the minimum size required to claim it. This system encourages competition and motivates each army to grow, pushing them to reach new heights and achieve size-related goals. The minimum size requirement must be met during the first 10 minutes of the first room to successfully claim it, if free land. In case of a land invasion, the invading army must meet the size requirement within the first 10 minutes of the first room to make it valid. The defending army does not have the need to meet the requirement, as they already possess the land.

Each land will have a symbol alongside its number (e.g. 84 [♢]) and, if renamed, by its server name (e.g. Klondike [♢]) to show which tier the land belongs to. Leaders can quickly identify which tier their army belongs to by referring to the list, which will display both the tier symbol and land numbers/names.

Below are the tiers and their correspondent symbols determined by Administrators and Head Judges:

WILDERNESS ZONES

The Wilderness Zone concept introduces specific areas on the map designated as no-allies zones. Armies must invade these lands independently, fostering greater competition and testing their ability to thrive without external support.

Any invasions or defenses within this zone will result in strict 1v1 battles. Even after an army claims a Wilderness Zone, it can be retaken by others through solo invasions. Violating the no allies rule results in the battle being voided and further punishments potentially being considered by the Administration.

WHAT WILL BE CHANGED?

After the Army Board agreed to implement these concepts in the Server Map, a new meeting was needed to sort out some details and technicalities regarding these. Once more, after long discussions, the Board Representatives were – surprisingly – unanimous in their voting.

Starting on Saturday, January 18 at 10 AM EST, a new continent will be unlocked in the Server Map. In this continent, armies will find a mix of Territory Tiers, Wilderness Zones, and regular land. This will constitute a trial run to test both most voted ideas.

Moreover, all armies will have until February 22, 2025 at 10 AM EST to capture land in the Server Map, including the new pieces that will be unlocked. If, and only if, there are only two remaining armies in the Server Map, they will face off in a winner-takes-all match or a series of matches, if preferred, to determine the map victors.

Additionally, a one-week grace period is taking place from the launch date until Saturday, January 25 at 10 AM EST. While it is in place, armies cannot invade each other, allowing the focus to be on freeland invasions. To clarify, armies who have not invaded a piece of the new free land, such as armies who are currently in war, will remain unaffected by the grace period. Lastly, armies who are not affected by the grace period will not be able to invade any armies that are currently under the grace period.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Last year, the army board held discussions and votes regarding the map. In September 2024, two votes took place. The first vote addressed what would happen if an army reached the server limit of 50% of the map plus one during a war. The majority of the army board voted in favor of the third option, which stated:

Voting regarding army reaching server limit

“If an army is below the cap before declaring war, the war proceeds normally without any limitations. However, once the war concludes, if they exceed the cap, they must release or transfer servers to return below the limit. If an army is already at the cap, they should not be able to declare war, only be declared upon.”

Voting regarding server cap increase

In May 2024, when the map was officially released, the majority voted to expand the server cap to eight. This is important to note as we extend the map because armies that initially have a cap of eight will not be able to collect more freeland or receive transfers. The only way to acquire additional land after reaching the cap will be to either release land or invade.

Concluding Thoughts

With the release of the new map content, we are excited to see how this journey unfolds with the new developments brought to the map. We extend our gratitude to the Army Board and CPAJ Head Judges for their support and contributions during these meeting. The Administration wishes the best of luck to all participants—remember to have fun and make the most of it, as this will only last for a month!
