Recently, the Rebel Penguin Federation announced the return of their Rebel Cash for Change fundraiser. Last hosted in 2022, this is an excellent campaign set out to raise money for several different charities.
What is Cash for Change?
The Rebel Cash for Change fundraiser is a campaign run by the Rebel Penguin Federation, based on the original Club Penguin Coins for Change which was held every December. The campaign works through the use of the RPF Discord server currency, Rebel Cash. Members who participate are able to earn unique Discord roles, depending on how much Rebel Cash they donate. Alongside this, there are also giveaways at certain milestones for custom roles, emotes, and stickers.
The campaign is donating to three unique charities, under three unique causes. The first charity is for wildlife and is the World Wildlife Fund. The second charity is for medicine, the International Rescue Committee. Finally, the last charity is for infrastructure, the Playground Builders. All of these charities do excellent work in their own unique way. We here at Club Penguin Armies encourage you to donate to any of these charities, even if you are not partaking in Rebel Cash for Change.
FORMER CAMPAIGNS
Approximately 10,016,805 Rebel Cash was donated in this first year of Cash for Change, in 2021. This equated to roughly 100 United States Dollars in donations. The following year, the campaign was run again, this time gathering 15,760,222 Rebel Cash. And now, after a one-year break, the campaign has returned, and it is more successful than ever. After two days, over 10,800,000 Rebel Cash had been donated. This year has the possibility to provide a bigger impact than ever before.
Interested to find out more about the campaign, Club Penguin Armies reached out to Link3000, RPF leader for insight.
What inspired RPF to start this campaign, and why did you choose those three specific charities?
It was inspired by Club Penguin’s Coins For Change. So Rebel Cash For Change started in 2021 by Jae and Avril who were at the time the heads of the Party Planning Committee. Our annual christmas/holiday party was being planned so they thought of doing something similar to Coins For Change from Club Penguin but with RPF’s currency.
Even though it was just for the party, RC4C was open for the entire month and there were personal and community goals/incentives. There were 3 roles you could get based on how much you donated, one for just donating and then community giveaways if we reached 5m, 10m and 20m rebel cash donated. The charities were charities from the categories that Club Penguin used as well, medicine, environment and infrastructure. Regarding the actual charities, some that are quite well known were chosen for each category. I wish I could have some more information but I was not part of the selecting process but all organisations selected do great work and the choices were met with no issues.
RC4C was released with the plan of it being a fun community, real life donating was not mandatory or part of it originally as we know not everyone might be able to contribute and we did not want to add pressure on anyone to do it. However some HCOM members and few community members wanted to donate regardless which was really nice.
To conclude, it is evident that RPF is making a positive change in the community, which is brilliant to see. But what are your thoughts? We would love to know. Should more armies take up initiatives like this, or is this a futile exercise? One thing is certain, this year will be bigger and better than ever for Rebel Cash for Change.
