It was on Saturday, November 23rd, that the Army of Club Penguin hosted its third edition of ‘Double Deck The Halls’. This report will look at the concept of the battle and provide a view from two judges’ perspectives.
Double Deck The Halls is a tournament hosted by the Army of Club Penguin. This year, the army community witnessed the battle take place on Saturday, November 23rd, for its third time. Traditionally, the tournament is a singular event with three Clovers’ allies receiving an invite and participating. Accordingly, ACP and their allies do this to train in preparation for the upcoming Christmas Chaos tournament, while taking part in a friendly battle. The battle format consisted of two Small/Medium armies paired with two Major armies.
Moreover, the armies witnessed on the field were the Rebel Penguin Federation, People’s Imperial Confederation and ACP’s recently announced allies, the Winged Hussars. RPF partnered with PIC as the ‘Rainbow Reindeers’ while ACP and WH paired to form the ‘Jolly Juggernauts’. The outcome of this battle can be found in the Double Deck the Halls III Battle Report post.
Club Penguin Armies Judges Head Judge, Spotty and Judge, Zenishira refereed this battle. Club Penguin Armies reached out to both for an exclusive interview about their views on the festive fight they evaluated.
What are your overall thoughts on the battle?
Zenishira: I gotta admit, it was a pretty close battle, especially during Room 1. It felt like a WWE tag team match seeing ACP and WH against RPF and PIC, rather than the usual major army 1v1 fight we are used to.
Spotty: It was great to see armies give it their all and it was great preparation for Christmas chaos which starts this week.
Are there any particular moments in the battle you liked?
Zenishira: I liked the Jolly Juggernaut’s (ACP/WH)’s W form during Room 1. At first we thought the Rainbow Reindeers (RPF/PIC) were dominating despite the size disadvantage, however the former made quite a spectacular comeback!
Spotty: I liked seeing the sm/major armies work together to try and win the trophy, it was a nice change to the usual tournament formats.
What do you have to say about the armies’ tactics, formations, speed, and creativity?
Zenishira: I believe that I’ve already talked enough about that during the previous questions.
Spotty: Both armies seemed to be fairly even in the first room in-terms of speed and formations, hence one room ending in a tie. However, Jolly Juggernauts were seen to be slightly more creative, making forms like a triangle. In rooms 2-3 they were also the fastest army and used their size to their advantage.
What could have gone better during the battle?
Zenishira: RR couldd have executed their ideas a little bit better. During Room 3 they tried doing an M form, if my memory serves me right, however it missed its right side. Also, I know I will get called out for this, but stop using the < form, it’s disadvantageous. (I speak from experience, as HF used the same form and lost)
Spotty: The Rainbow Reindeers had a few issues with the neatness of their formations so that would definitely be a thing to improve on. Further, they didn’t utilise their size as well as their opponents. Although, both sides had issues with afk troops, and troops bunching.
Do you feel that both armies could have done better than how they performed? If yes, how?
Zenishira: Okay, I’ll be blunt here, PIC should have hyped the battle a little bit more. ACP and WH combined had sizes that were around 42+, knowing that ACP had around 37 and WH had around 7 people online. In the meantime, RPF also had high maxes, around 32-35 people, however PIC maxed around 2-3 people, thus their combined size is around 37. Like they say, it’s the Small/(Medium) things that count!
Spotty: The battle seemed to be mostly ACP v RPF. PIC seemed to max 2 and WH less than 10, so it would’ve been nice to see more SM troops, rather than it feeling like it was just RPF v ACP. Once again troops could’ve been better at making formations.
Any final comments that you would like to make to the participating armies?
Zenishira: Good luck during Christmas Chaos! I hope DDTH was good practice!
Spotty: Thank you to ACP for hosting this tournament and for asking CPAJ to help them ensure it runs smoothly. Also, thank you to all 4 armies for participating and giving the community a great battle to watch.
In conclusion, the judges expressed that this battle was fiercely close and exceptionally interesting. Thank you to Spotty and Zenishira for taking part in this interview and judging an exciting battle. Finally, congratulations to the Double Deck The Halls III winning team and every participating team! Do you agree with the judges’ thoughts?
